While my current situation isn't excellent, at least I was able to experience flying with my own body. Seriously that dragon earlier was pretty strong, but something tells me that there were even bigger and stronger than that one!
I'll find out eventually.
So fuck it as how things are I only know some of the things from the 'dragons' side, and that information wasn't beneficial kinda like watching a movie where they say nothing and do all sort of stuff and if the creature that I got the information from failed to comprehend it I doubt that I will.
Since it would take some time before I land somewhere, judging from how high I was (which by the way was a bit higher than the clouds, that dragon had some good neck muscles there!) so I tried playing around with the little subskill that may or may not helps me soon, I would love to be able to use other elements but let's focus on what we have.
The first try was a failure as my armor sort of covered my mouth too, so I sort of fried myself!
How clumsy of me!
The second try was peculiar. I managed to manipulate my armor into having a small opening at the mouth, thus allowing some passageway to use that sort of accelerated my descent.
By the third try, I was about to land, so I had to cut my practice short, the image of a slaughter camp wasn't pretty, and the attacker, the actions of both sides, stopped when I landed...miserably again!
I coughed a bit before speaking out loud as I got up.
"I gotta work on my landing!"
----the leader of the knights nearby pov----
I am the knight captain Drazoh of the 171st knight company of the Gladius Matriarchy. Our Matriarch sent my men and me to this area to remove the refugees plaguing the area, killing the people that come by, be it, hunters or merchants. Their bodies are nailed to the wooden fences to act as intimidation for those that approach with hostility.
It failed to work against my men as we were trained by some of the greatest swordsmen and sorcerers, these filthy refugees decided to start killing their hostages; I was about to order my men to begin our assault since these foul beasts in human skin had long lost their humanity, but In the center of the camp landed a figure covered in scales.
A bone-chilling voice infused with an absurd amount of mana echoed out that sent a shiver down my spine.
"ZXAICBQUSJDKW XNCMAJWOCJXA"
The figure's words were incomprehensible. However, I wanted to see what he'll do before we take any actions. While I would've loved to fight this scaled figure, judging from the mana he was giving off, my men and I would all die, my Matriarch ordered that we are to retreat when the odds are greatly stacked against us.
Little did I know that this man would change the lives of many, including my own, soon, but think about it now. This moment might have been one of the few times I was ever so eager to fight a losing battle.
-----MC pov-----
Ugh, I'm not too fond of this feeling of crashing into the ground. This, like what, my third time within a day?
It was hard to breathe, my left arm was completely busted as it dangled when I lifted it to inspect it, my ears were ringing, and through my right eye, all I could see was red as the sun was blinding me here, there might be some other damaged areas, but I didn't want to risk it by moving around a lot too soon.
My body is aching quite a bit now, so I grabbed one of the fruits I had to be used as a healing offering. It was pretty weak, but the effects were worth it. It was a regenerating version, so as I got to my feet, my hand in an odd angle, straightened back into position, much to my discomfort.
One of my lungs popped, which would explain the difficulty in breathing. The warm, comfortable feeling of my body being restored felt really good. One of the benefits of this kind of healing was one's body becoming more sturdy and resistant to the same amount of damage, something that all sorcerers go through to handle stronger monsters.
It took a few seconds, but I was healed enough to stand up properly and 'greet' the first man holding a woman hostage by the hair with a fire breath that burned his head off completely. As for the hostage, that person passed out.
Since I had so much of my blood around and that of the dead or injured people here.
I slowly raised my hand above my head and collected in all, creating one red orb, then selected those that will attack me as targets charging and changing one of my favorite spells called 'blood shot,' it may sound corny. Still, the damage it can do surpasses that of regular handguns, if I remember correctly.
With some knowledge from my SS character, I managed to create an automatic shooting spell which sadly only lasts a few minutes, but it was worth it as one of the men charged at me with a rusty saber, the spell was nice, and all but the aim sucked balls...
The spell began firing at the man from 50 meters away. It missed or grazed him until the 20-meter mark. Yeah, it sucked that much.
I sacrificed the man foolish enough to attack in such a way to gain some knowledge. I learned their common language to the intermediate level as it turns out these men were all runaway knights from different countries that banded together just to survive.
The bonus I gained from him was a simple str+ 2, meaning the man only served to help me understand the local language, nothing more.
One of the seeming leaders was a bald man that was heavily scarred and skinny but still had quite a bit of muscle on him. He had a great sword that was in a better condition compared to his men.
The bald man had a girl tied to his body that both acted as his hostage and his sex toy as he was still pumping away at the blindfolded and gagged woman. The man spoke to me in a neutral tone that had a tinge of fear.
Yes, I mentally fist-pumped at this since I can understand the man.
"why is a human sorcerer like you interfering with lowly people like us?? Did we offend you somehow?"
Judging from his reaction to me using my magic and how his men gasped as they were literally shuddering in fear, I'm guessing either sorcerers are held in high esteem, or they are just cruel to others, and It kind of reminds me of the game. However, the bastard is still pumping away at the woman tied to him.
"Nah, I got sent flying here by a dragon I was fighting earlier, and you guys happened to be armed, so I took that as a threat when the other guy happened to try and attack me."
As my eyes scanned my surroundings, checking for any hidden threats as my words made quite the impact as the word dragon seemed to frighten them quite a bit before asking the bald man.
"but what made you think I was a sorcerer and a human at that?"
The bald man's sweat began to roll down from his face as I was still covered in my scale armor that looked like it was my skin, so unless one was familiar with the spells we sorcerers used, we could easily be mistaken for monsters if seen from a short distance his answer intrigued me as it led to more questions about where I was the general information he gained from the one earlier wasn't enough.
Something caught my sight as thanks to the sun, the armor of some people some distance away flickered for a moment before it stopped abruptly, there were other people nearby, but the voice of the bald man interrupted my thoughts.
"I was once a guard of one of the apprentices of the order of Avalon while it was only for two months him practicing how to use his spells and its effects are hard to forget, including how your current look is like."
The name Avalon was something I didn't expect to hear as while I enjoyed the game so much, the Orders they had I didn't really like as each with their own corrupted ways and ideas.
And on top of that, Avalon had many enemies, as in hundreds of powerful Sorcerers. In contrast, the other orders have their fair share of enemies. The order of Avalon was more than half the world's population hated them!
While each order had its own black and white, I felt really close to two faction leaders while there were some characters. They were two particular women after Sortiara.
This random thought made me reminisce through two ordeals as they affect my life greatly?
(A/N a flashback of mixed memories occur)
The first one was Sympatha that became my second partner when we had to save the very monsters that threatened our lives as she spoke.
"our dedication to mercy is already being tested."
She belonged to the order of Sanctuarium dedicated to saving any and all monsters. Their code was never to kill friends, never kill monsters.
Reject the practice of sacrifice and consign it to our past. Let us build a utopia, excluding all tarnished and undeserving souls. Avalon hunted the leader called Lenixion for openly breaking the sorcerer's code, numerous edicts circulated that ordered his assassination.
Despite his widespread infamy, he had proven elusive, and even his physical appearance was unknown.
Until I caught a rumor of an ordeal being held by Sanctuarium, at the time, I was one of those assassins sent to kill him under the guise of a possible recruit.
Sympatha began sharing her story again as we rested for the night as. After she was betrayed and nearly sacrificed by the man she trusted, she had lost all ability to trust.
She would tell me, "humans are tarnished."
Under the Aegis of Lenixion, Sanctuarium will cleanse the world of human impurities.
There were times that Sympatha tells me that she has chosen to dedicate her very life to this higher calling.
"You must feel the same, I think?"
Sympatha assumed that we were kindred spirits.
We were different as night and day, Í̵̧̡̥͚̲̲͓͙͇̝̳̪̰̱̐̔̈́̉̏́̎̀̚̚͜ ̷̛̟̲̯͗̉͌̒̀͗̿͘͘ͅḫ̵͔̟͒̇́̅̈́ǎ̶̡͈͎̔d̸̘̖͉͎̣͚͕͑̅͗̐̑͗̋͂̋̽̕̚͝͠ ̵͌͒̓̃̓̈́̂̕̕͝s̵̨̨͇̜͉̻̩͎̟͍͔͓̰̓̂͗̑͂̔̒͝a̴̡̜̺̤̜̩̺̬̟̬͕̎͜c̶͇̗̗̘̥̍̓̂͋̏̌̊͜r̵̛͎̘͚͎͍̯̦̰̣̫̬̰͋͌̈́̑͛̓͆͌͐͗̇͠ḯ̴̢̨̛͓̦̹̻͕̲͕͕̖̇͊̀̈́̃͘͠f̴̡̛̤͈̿͌̈̅͑̋̔͊̏̔̍͘͝ͅį̷̡͖̳̓͒̈́̎͗̈́̽̒̂͛͑̌͜͠c̶̩͉̺̠̍̾̈̉͗̍̌͋͝͝ȩ̷̖̞̦̩̽͒͂́̈́̄̉̑̌̚͘͝d̷̡̙̰̖͚̰͇̳̗̞͚̪̜͕̾̆͛̓̑͒̿̈̔̒ ̷̨̧͕͕̝͚̱͙͎͕̩̙̹͎͍̈́̀̆̊̿̚S̵̡̡̨̯̝̲̼̫̹̰̙̱̣͑̈́̾͊̌̏͑͗̀̈́̔̉͠o̵͕̭̖̜̹̜̹̥̞̱̭̲̗͂̾͂͐́̀͋͗̐̄̿̓́̆̕r̷͈͖͙̜̭͊̉̌̎͋̈́t̴̛̤̮̫̤̟̖̳̞͐́͑̋͗̽̐̚į̵̼̮̫̮̗̖̜͇̺̯͈̺̋̋͐ą̷͔̟̤̞̯̯͍͙̦͔̜̫͙́̋͗̆̐̒͛̍̆̌͊̓͂͆͝r̸̢̥̼̩͙̘̺̹̖͚̾̎̿͒͋̀̾͛̃̇͗̈́̏̚á̴̳̰̏͊̌̈́ ̴̧͍̜̬̠͖̖̗̼̞̩̠̻̲͛ą̶̡̼̥̳̖̩̳̫̳͔̬͈͔̃̀͐̄̀ș̵̪̗͍̭͍͎̟̺̖̠̈̇̈́̓͐̐͛̉̿̚̕͜͜͠ ̵̹͑̌̿̏̕ä̵̡̟̙̲̩̻͕̠͖̯̮̲́́́̾̈́̐̓͒̅́͌̚ ̸̬̠̝̖̠͚͕̫̖̭̣̲̓̚s̶̨̛̛̞͇͚̟̰̳̟̍͋̈͛̈́̏̄͛̀̍̅̈͘t̸̛͔͈͇̖͔̣͛́̊̇͊̊̃̆̿̅͑͜͜e̴̪̤͋͊͒̒̑̋̌ṕ̵̯̰̇͗̎̌̈́p̸̡̡͈͉̞̪̳̪͍̞̞̙̗̓͑̈́̈́̈́͠i̷̛͎̰͕̦̙̭͖̻̳̰͓̫̲͋͛̈̋̄̈́̊͌̈́͗̏̊̈́̀n̸̯̬̔̽̽̄̋̅͆̀̋͛͌̔͝g̷̡̛̛̛̛̱̣̘͕̲̭̲͔̘̰̦̜͌́͋̆̒̿͝ͅ ̵̙̫͌́̐́͌͋̀̈́̕͠s̴͚̯̟̼̻̭̭͕͗͌͐͑́̏͆͑̽ẗ̷̡̢̩̮̝̟́̎̇̀̃͠ơ̸͚̻̥̒̒́̕͝ņ̷͚̭̼͙͙͉̹̗̽̇̾͌̔̑͜͝͝e̸.
Things have never been the same. If Sortiara had lived on, would she be like Sympatha?
The target we sought was a powerful one.
Sympatha looked about her but did not think to look behind her. The beast lurched from the shadows and struck sympathy into the air. The great beast turned on me next.
Near-death, Sympatha's eyes met mine.
"I...I don't want you to die..."
It was permission to absorb her in sacrifice.
"Take my life... so that.. you may keep yours..."
I replied without thought.
"I...cannot."
She reminded me of Sortiara, which had been an experience that I could not repeat.
It took some time to defeat the beast and return to her side to tend to her as I struggled with my aching body and trying to catch my breath and Sympatha, she nonchalantly rose to her feet and dusted herself off.
"you pass."
It was evident that her injuries were just scratches. It made sense now as I was just being tested. Sympatha had been acting all along.
Sympatha.
Otherwise known as Lenixion, the leader of Sanctuarium.
She had come out to take part in the ordeal, to size up the new initiates for herself. By not resorting to sacrifice, I'd passed the test.
"Well, what now? Aren't you going to kill me?"
This... she saw right through me. She told me that she faces assassins on a regular basis.
I shook my head, though. Enough. this was enough.
...I couldn't kill her anymore. From that moment, she always made me think of Sortiara.
"You're a strange one. I thought you'd come here for me?"
She smiled as she said with that gentle voice of hers. That was the first natural smile that I'd seen.
"you know, I think I like you."
Sanctuarium's leader was born to play her role as I felt it in the gentleness of her smile as it soothed my weary body.
"we well speak again someday. as friends, who journeyed together."
At the time, I failed to notice the odd and thoughtful look she gave me as we went out separate ways.
Before I made my way accidentally meeting that other fox of a lady with a red hood in a tavern as for whether she was waiting for me in particular or my skills just happened to reach her requirements at the time, I really never got to find out.
Similia, the one that caught me into her illusions, half-threatened and half dragged me away from a perfect pint to help her with a few things. Her teasing tone reminded me of my 'leash' made by her illusions when I thought of breaking her illusion.
"Drop those silly ideas now. You're my dog, like it or not."
All while lazily rolling an apple about in her hands. It was clear that she was on to something, chasing a tip. Helping her in this search was the only way to break free from her illusionary chains.
There were countless times that she used her illusions to test me, make bait for a powerful monster back at the Icarus Pasture, making me share information before she disappears, leaving me nothing in exchange, it took a few days to find her afterward tempted to discipline this woman one way or another, but sadly for her, I have been looking for the infamous red hood for some time, I needed her to help me break an illusion, not any of the ones she cast upon me, but the visions from my own right arm.
Her reaction to my request was peculiar as her confident stance crumbled as she answered.
"Don't expect too much. I... I'm not what the legend rumors make me out to be."
A roar echoed out from somewhere. I could feel that the beast was close. And soon enough, red was gone; her parting words hung in the air.
"Don, my cap, approach any fool saying 'you're under my spell" and watch them jump a mile. Legendary illusions? More the illusions of legends, in truth. Didn't you jump, though!"
Yes, sadly, she dragged me into another one of her troubles as it turned out she had a large horde of monsters after her, and I became the new target to feast upon.
There was no end to them. For each fiend I slew, two more took its place. The fight was long and hard as hours passed. My sense of time dulled as my consciousness faded as the beast I fought seemed to be unending.
"...I'd feel guilty if you died here. waste of a good dog."
(A/N flashback cuts off here)
She belonged to another group called the order of grim as they claimed neutrality is man's sole means of standing against the cruel apathy of gods. Through her, I ended up helping their group for a while before setting down my own path of sorcery. I will sacrifice when needed, I will save when needed, and I will leave to fate when asked to be judged.
There's a story behind that, but I'll leave that for later.
I also realized how much I cared for women before I didn't even bat an eye at the suffering of the men or even how easily I killed the men...
I'll try to figure things out later right now, and I have to deal with these bastards, so mixed with my annoyance at my sudden changes, I gave them three choices.
"since you understand what I am, choose from these three options, fight me and you die, head to that field of tall grass and surrender to the Armored people, or lastly, become my test subjects. your choice, you have 10 seconds to decide."
The mouth area that covered my head warped, showing a sinister grin as if I was hoping they'd choose the latter.
One of the men under the bald man failed to understand the conversation as well as the fear that took control of him. Hence, he tried readying his bow and arrow, attempting to fire one at me, which sadly for him was stopped by my armor. Then I fired my own projectile, a blood arrow that was more accurate than the previous spell, that made the archer explode on contact as these fools had forgotten about the floating red orb above me.
the leader dropped the woman as he knew of the ruthlessness of sorcerers the cared little for their own kind, even less for regular people as he had seen some of the things that he will never forget even after drowning himself in liquor for days so to escape sooner he could care even less for his cocksleeve as his men followed as the same voice of the scale-covered man said
"be sure to tell the armored people Cu Chulainn gives his regards."
That was when like a thunderclap exploded in his ears...
The very many that was called both a saint and a devil incarnate had returned!
the world is that of Soul sacrifice three races, however, dominates this world, dragons, humans, and sorcerers.
it will be similar to the world of warlocks just way of battle is different, SS style, and you really need to have a bigger fist to live your life easier.
Dragons can shapeshift and use spells like in any other fantasy world, however, sorcerers can rival them in power which is why they are at peace with one another...on the surface so think of this world like a cross between soul sacrifice delta and the manga ragna crimson.
Humans will get shafted like a lot! and Cu Chulainn was titled as their hero and devil incarnate once upon a time. alrighty if i say any more there will be spoilers so I'll stop i hope you guys have a good read.
