Kapitel 2: Deen-Fangirls are weird

Mrs. Jung led us to a cab, waiting for us a few steps away. Mee loaded our luggage into the trunk. She looked petite, but Mee was quite strong. She easily picked up the heavy bags and put them into the car. The driver and Mrs. Jung were staring in awe. Mee noticed them staring.

'I am trained in martial arts,' she said sheepishly. Mee gets really embarrassed when people ogle at her. Back at our country, people stared at her a lot. It was not only for her strength but also for her looks. Mee's brown hair reached up to her shoulder in curly rings. Her skin was smooth with a soft, yellowish tinge to it. But her unique features were her eyes. They were reddish brown. It was quite unusual at our country for someone to have eyes of those colors. Wherever Mee went, she stood out from the rest, which only annoyed her.

As for me, I am pretty small for my age. People called me very cute because of my chubby cheeks. Mee called me a chick magnet; women of all ages flock around me wherever I go and fawned over my adorableness. I hated it though. They tended to pull my cheeks hard. Hard enough to turn my light tan skin red.

'Shall we go?' Mee asked Mrs. Jung.

'Y-yes,' Mrs. Jung stuttered.

We all got in the cab. '120 Hyehwa-dong,' Mrs. Jung instructed the driver.

The driver turned on the stereo. 'When did love touch me...' played through it. Uh oh. I looked at Mee. Her eyes gleamed with excitement; clearly her journey was going to be fun. She barely contained her fangirling in front of Mrs Jung. This was a song by her favorite Korean band TNT. She listened to it every day. Being an ardent Starry, she knew all their songs by heart.

Ugh, I thought. Starry is TNT's fandom name. I have a deep loathing towards that band. Mee acts like a childish fan girl whenever she talks about TNT. She had been a hardcore Starry even before I was born. And now that she was in their home country, I dreaded she would drag me to one of those stupid fan meets. It was a good thing she could not see all the TNT members on one stage; they split years ago. But Mee still listened to those old songs. She even cried sometimes. I don't know why. Even though I learnt the language from Mee, their songs sounded like gibberish. Women, especially fan girls, are weird.

I groaned and looked outside. It was undoubtedly a beautiful country. Unlike our dull hometown, Seoul was sparkling. The buildings were too tall and posh. I could not even see the top of some of those buildings. Shopping malls, offices, restaurants etc. were all uniformly lined along the streets. I was surprised to see that the walkways did not have any hawkers or stores blocking people's path. In our country, walkways were more of roadside markets than places for people to walk on. Weird. The roads were squeaky clean. I hardly saw unlittered roads back home unless I count the rare trips to the upscale areas when Mee went on assignments.

Seoul did not seem to have much traffic either. In fact, there was no traffic. The cars moved along the assigned lanes and drove smoothly. Back at our country, there were no such things like traffic rules; the roads were used like racing tracks. I looked on, in awe. In my short life, it was the first time I travelled so far. But it was a new beginning for us. It excited me. And also scared me.

It took us around forty minutes to reach 120 Hyehwa-dong. As soon as we got out of the car, my jaw dropped. We stopped in front of a big mansion. Mansion would be an understatement; it was like a castle. I gawked at it. I looked sideways at Mee. She did not look surprised by the house in front of us; she saw plenty of those in her lifetime so it would not bother her. But it was new to me.

The place was huge. The gate was tall, heavily guarded with security cameras and electronic locks. Behind the gate, a large lawn covered the entire area with a fountain in the middle. The walkway to the house was made of colorful marbles. I could not see much beyond the fountain but a little glimpse of the front door made me guess that it was probably gold plated. Or maybe it was just golden colored. The whole house looked as if it sprung out of those fairy tales Mee used tell me.

'We're here,'Mrs. Jung said.
