It was seven in the morning when I entered Pewter City. I stood right next to a sign board which said Welcome to Pewter City.
The weather was nice, there were fragrance of flowers all around and the environment was pleasant.
A man taught his son Bug Catching and his son tried to catch Butterfly Pokemons with bug catching net. I smiled and remembered the time when my dad used to teach me fishing.
I grabbed out the Pokedex out of my pant's right hand pocket and turned it on. It displayed the options and I selected Map. It displayed my location as Pewter City. I pressed an a button and Pewter City map opened. The first place I had to go was PokeCentre which was not too far.
I walked into the city. It didn't have much buildings and houses but the city was quiet spacious. There were kids playing in the park, people jogging on the streets and teenagers cycling around.
Then I reached the desired destination- the PokeCentre. It was huge, had three floors and workers wiping the windows.
I entered the PokeCentre. There was a familiar face, Nurse Joy from Viridian City PokeCentre. 'Nurse Joy ?', I said. 'Yes ?', asked Nurse Joy. 'Weren't you the Nurse in Viridian City ?', I asked. 'No, you must have mistaken me with my sister', she said. 'Twins huh ?', I said. 'Yes', she said.
I handed her the four Pokeballs and she placed them on a machine. 'Please wait for some time', she said. Meanwhile, I called Professor Oak from a telephone provided by the PokeCentre.
'Hello ?',said Professor Oak.
'Hi Professor, it's me Red', I said.
'So, where are you ?'.
'Pewter City'.
'Oh, got the gym badge yet ?'.
'Nah, I was just about to go'.
'The Pewter City Gym specializes in Rock types'.
'So what can I use against them ?'.
'Water types, grass types, fighting types and ground types are best against them. I wish you good luck'.
'Thanks Professor', I said, hanging up the phone.
'Your Pokemon are back healthy', said Nurse Joy. Placing the four Pokeballs on the reception table. I picked them and put them on my belt's holder.
I exited the PokeCentre and began walking towards the Pokemon Gym with the help of my Pokedex's Map.
It really wasn't too far and was just across the street from the left of the PokeCentre. There were flowers outside the Gym and some brown fences.
The Gym was huge and made up of rock. As Professor Oak told me that the Gym specializes in Rock types. It had Pewter City Gym carved on a steel plate attached to the top. The shape wasn't uniform. The walls had bends at random spots just like a normal rock. The gym had no doors, it had an entrance just like a cave but the light inside was bright and it looked way too modern from the inside, obviously.
The gym leader was standing right across the battle place which had white lines like a badminton court but was big enough to have a battle there.
'Excuse me ', I said, looking at the man who seemed to be the Gym Leader. He was tall and dark, had messed up black-brown hair and wore a black jacket with yellow stripe on it, going across the chest.
He stood forward and said,' Yes ? I guess you are a challenger'.
'Yeah. I want to battle the Pewter City Gym Leader', I said.
'Well, you are talking to the Gym Leader. My name is Brock. Are you ready ?',he asked.
'I am. Um...this is my first Gym Battle, so are there any rules', I asked.
'Yes, there are. I can only use two Pokemon while the trainer uses all. The challenger can change Pokemons in between the match but I cannot', he said.
'That's it ?', I asked.
'So let's start', he said. 'Go Geodude'. He sent out a rock Pokemon that had two hands. I grabbed out the Pokedex and pointed towards it.
'Geodude, a Rock Pokemon. Its round form makes it easy to pick up. Some people have used them to hurl at each other in a snowball fight', explained the Pokedex.
'I choose you, Charmander', I said, sending out Charmander.
'A Charmander, this match would end soon', said Brock.
'Charmander, Ember'.
It wasn't very effective.
'I knew that. Geodude, Defense Curl'.
Geodude's Defense rose.
'Charmander, Metal Claw'.
'Geodude, Tackle'.
Metal Claw wasn't too powerful but it could hold Geodude for a while.
'You can change your Pokemon if you want', said Brock.
'Okay. Charmander, come back. Go Pikachu'.
'Electric types are weak against rock types'.
'Pikachu isn't, use Double Team'.
Pikachu moved too fast that it was hard to percieve that there were only one. I could see fifteen Pikachus.
'Geodude, Mud Sport', said Brock.
It threw mud all around.
'Pikachu, remain in Double Team and use Quick Attack', I said. All the Pikachus attacked Geodude but it only did one hit.
Geodude fainted.
'This wasn't expected. Good job, Geodude. Now, for the real match. Go Onix',said Brock. A big rock Pokemon came out.
I pointed the Pokedex towards it.
'Onix, a Rock Snake Pokemon.
It usually lives underground. It searches for food while boring its way through the ground at 50 miles per hour', explained the Pokedex.
'Pikachu, come back. Go Pidgey', I said.
'Onix, use Rock Throw', said Brock.
Onix smashed the ground with it's enormous tail and threw rocks on Pidgey.
'Pidgey, try to dodge them in air'.
Pidgey dodged the rocks while flying, this looked like an advantage to me.
'Pidgey, use Sand Attack', I said.
Pidgey, with the help of it's wings made sand blow into Onix's eyes.
'Onix, use Rock Tomb', said Brock. The attack missed.
'Yes. Pidgey, use Quick Attack', I said.
It did not effect Onix much.
'Onix, Tackle', said Brock.
Onix slammed Pidgey into ground with it's head. Pidgey fainted.
'Come back, Pidgey. I choose you Nidoran', I said. 'Use Double Kick'.
It was super effective.
'Onix, Rock Tomb', said Brock. Big boulders flew up high and fell on ground and trapped Nidoran from four sides. Another boulder fell on Nidoran and it fainted.
'Well done, Nidoran. You were good out there. Come back. Go Charmander', I said.
'Onix, Rock Throw'.
'Charmander, dodge and Ember'.
'Onix, Tackle'.
Charmander fainted.
'You are just left with that electric type', said Brock.
'Well, he is much more than what you think he is. Go Pikachu', I said.
'Onix, Rock Throw'.
'Pikachu, Double Team'.
'Onix, Dig'.
Onix went inside the ground and Pikachu tried to hear it's movement.
'Pikachu, try to hear', I said.
'Onix, come out', said Brock.
Pikachu dodged the attack.
'Pikachu, Double Team and Quick Attack'.
'Onix, Rock Tomb'.
Now there were many boulders falling.
'Pikachu dodge', I said.
Pikachu jumped from boulder to boulder and was now at a disadvantage. Pikachu was in free air and Onix could attack easily.
'Onix, Tackle', said Brock as if it was the last attack.
'Pikachu, use Thunderbolt', I said.
But Pikachu didn't. I knew Thunderbolt would not lead to any heavy damage but Onix was too far to do any physical moves.
Pikachu used Double Team instead and stood on the ground. All the Pikachus climbed on Onix and used Tackle. Onix tripped and fainted. The Pikachus disappeared and only one stood on Onix.
'You won', said Brock.
'I won', I said.
I was really happy, my first Gym victory. Brock handed me the badge and I walked outside with Pikachu. We looked closely at the Gym Badge.
'I got that badge an hour ago, Red', said a familiar voice. 'But I knew you would win'.
