Just when Liam was walking away, he heard the announcer say, "The next match of the day will be Ash versus Chrome." Liam was now interested in watching Ash's battle to see how strong he had gotten. He turned around and stood in the corner watching the match as Ash brought out his first two Pokémon, Heracross, and Pikachu.
Liam knew that he would use Pikachu since he is the highest-level Pokémon Ash has, but that Heracross Ash was using was relatively weak, only at a level 60. But his Pikachu was now level 150, which was more than enough to deal with his opponents who had two levels 60 Pokémon.
The announcer announced the start of the battle as Ash told Pikachu to stay back and back up Heracross if he needs help. Pikachu nodded and stood back while Heracross charged towards the two Pokémon he was facing off against, which were Golduck and Umbreon.
Heracross used a fighting move against Umbreon, which it was weak against, causing it to be knocked out right away as Heracross faced off against Golduck next. Golduck struck Heracross with a Hydro Pump. The damage caused was significant, but Heracross hung on as he slowly got back up. Golduck used Psychic blasting Heracross away, and it caused him to faint.
Chrome was happy about this little victory he got, but his happiness was short-lived as Pikachu stepped up and used a Thunderbolt on Golduck, causing it to faint, signaling Ash's victory. Chrome was distracted and did not see the attack coming, and as soon as it struck him, it was too late.
The match ended as soon as it started as Ash moved on to the next round. Liam saw this and smiled. Liam decided to wait for Ash and have lunch with him.
As soon as Ash saw Liam, he waved at him and said, "Hey Liam, what are you up to? Did you see my battle?"
"Hey, Ash, I'm just waiting for you. If you want to grab some lunch, that would be nice, and yes, I saw your battle. It seems like Pikachu has gotten even stronger, and as for Heracross, he won't stand a chance against my team."
Ash laughed and said, "I know, and it seems like you've gotten stronger too. I saw your battle, and it looks like you weren't even trying at all there and with only one Pokémon as usual."
Liam laughed a little before they went off to have some lunch together. While this was going on, Gary had also stepped on the stage as he was facing off against a formidable opponent. "Hi, my name is Gentleman Crave, and I crave battles from all around the world. I was in Johto when I heard about this tournament, so I decided to join, and so far, it has been quite a disappointment. I hope you entertain me, young one."
Gary smiled as Crave finished his sentence and said, "I hope so too. Make sure you show me a good time." Then Gary brought out his Blastoise and Kingdra.
Crave saw this and brought out his Pokémon Persian and Growlithe and said, "These two are my trusted companions. I have traveled across different regions, doing non-stop battles, and they have not failed me yet. Let us see if you have what it takes to take them down."
Gary did not say anything as he waited for the announcer to announce the start of the battle
"Battle, begin!"
As soon as he said that, "Blastoise use Hydro Pump, Kingdra you also use Hydro Pump." Gary said his orders as they both charged up a Hydro Pump and blasted it out. The Hydro Pumps combined to become a larger one as it approached the two Pokémon that were on the other side.
Crave saw the attack and was impressed as the Persian stepped up and used Reflect right away and directed it to the other two as they dodged it. "What, you thought you were going to knock out my Pokémon?" Crave sneered, but Gary had already prepared for this as Kingdra was already speeding towards the two Pokémon.
Blastoise had gone into his shell and spun off to the side, but nobody noticed him as he came twirling towards the other two Pokémon who are focused on Kingdra.
"Growlithe Flamethrower, Persian Slash attack," said Crave. The two Pokémon focused on Kingdra and didn't notice that Blastoise had come behind them as he blasted his cannons, knocking them both out at once while Kingdra had dodged the incoming attack.
Crave was surprised by this surprise attack, as Gary smirked and said, "Thank you for the experience, but I'm not like the others you battled. I am on a whole other level."
Crave nodded his head as he said, "Thank you for the battle," and simply returned his Pokémon and walked away. The announcer announced Gary as the winner as they ended the match. Gary smirked at having achieved victory so easily.
Gary's Blastoise was 50 levels higher than the other two, hence why he was able to knock them out with one hydro pump attack.
Gary then went back to training as he had one thing in his mind: to defeat Liam as he worked his Pokemons to the bone.
Even though his pokémons have been winning battles all year long and their confidence has been at an all-time high, they wondered why he still trained them as if they were not enough.
