Kapitel 27: The Twist Of Fate

"The Twist Of Fate, that is the name of your tattoo." The Old Man spoke as he gently closed his eyes, his face sporting severe solemness.

Daniel suddenly looked down. 'How the heck did I not notice it?' He took in the sight of the tattoo on his left arm and peck and couldn't help but feel smug.

"This tattoo is extremely rare, so rare that in our recorded history only two other people have had it out of billions." The Old Man opened his eyes as he inspected the tattoo on Daniel's body.

"What makes it so special?" Daniel inquired out of curiosity. "And why billions? This academy has only been around for a few decades no?"

"I keep forgetting your gonna be a trouble maker, tch tch." The Old Man passed for a moment, quickly making a mental note about the observant kid before him.

"Its benefits are no simple matter. It amplifies your physical, mental and emotional attributes. It boosts your comprehensive abilities as well as enhancing your memory, basically photographic memory. It amplifies your affinities to the elements and the laws of this world. It even allows you to defy your fate, while simultaneously lacking any known weakness!" The Old Man spoke slowly and with a steady tone, yet there were traces of awe within his voice.

Daniel squinted his eyes, hoping the Old Man had enough brain cells to understand his meaning.

"Do you know what an Architect is, Daniel?" The Old Man opened his eyes as he gazed upon Daniel with a poker face, definitely pretending he didn't noticed Daniel's gesture.

"A designer or maybe a builder?" Daniel replied. He based his answer off of Earth's concept of an Architect.

"Close. We are more than just designer's or builders; We... bend the world to our will, to follow our grand design." The Old Man's eyes were almost glowing at the fervent emotions he held within.

Adora and Daniel took a deep breath.

What sort of concept could you imagine where you could actually bend the very fabric of the world to your will?

"Why are you saying this. I thought you were gonna wait till I'm thoroughly trained by my Teacher?"

"Because that tattoo, that blessing. Has secured your future path as an Architect. It's almost a cheat!" The Old Man's veins popped as he spoke and sent spittle flying everywhere.

"What others would take years to understand you will merrily need seconds. All those who came before you were absolute sovereigns! Rulers that bent this world over backwards and broke her back out!"

Adora blushed meanwhile Daniel was too shocked to react or wipe off the speckles of spit that littered his face.

The Old Man coughed as he realized his loss of composure. "I'll teach you more about it at a later time, I have to do some research because even I do not have a full grasp on what your tattoo is capable of."

Daniel nodded.

"Now, I'll explain how all students proceeded after the entry ceremony. Every student is taken care of. We, unlike the other academies, don't have generic classes. Each student has a tailor made regiment that pushes their very limits."

"Humans are similar but completely different at the same time, and because we understand this simple fact, our school is many times more successful." The Old Man sipped some more from the cup he conjured earlier, his expression quite smug as he boasted about his academy.

"Students are also assigned a partner for their first year in order to cultivate a teamwork mentality. We are training elites for humanity, not icons or solo heroes." The Old Man didn't bother to pause inbetween information dumps.

Daniel and Adora listened carefully as they nodded from time to time.

"You two will be partners. Enfred decided this after careful consideration. Since you both have fought side by side, he deemed it necessary for you two to become partners. "

Adora and Daniel looked at each other, Daniel smiled confidently and was open to the arrangement. Adora on the other hand had a helpless look on his face.

"Adora, it's alright if you wish to be paired with someone else, I won't force you bro." Daniel commented after reading his helpless expression.

"It's not that I don't want to be your partner, Mr. Daniel. Its just..." Adora looked down towards the ground as he clenched his fists.

"Adora, you aren't weak. While your blessing isn't of such unreasonable rarity, it's among the top ten as you probably already know. So do your best!" The Old Man had long noticed Adora's feeling of inferiority and decided to address it before it became something deeper.

Adora nodded. 'I won't fall behind, I have to at least try. If it doesn't work out, at the end of my first year I'll be able to swap out for someone on my level or slightly below me. It'll be better than being paired eith a future monster. I should try to not compare myself to him..' He had fighting spirit but not enough conviction.

What a pussy.

"I have a question old man, why do we get tattoos? How do we get such mystical gifts at seemingly no cost?"

The Old Man's eyebrow twitched at the way he was addressed, but decided to move on. "It's a story for another time, young Daniel. A story I'd be happy to tell you, when the time is ripe." The Old Man patted Daniel's shoulder as he spoke.
