Kapitel 73: Bloodline Strengthening

Joel stood looked up at the giant Hidebehind looming over him. He wanted to run, his body was screaming at him to run but he couldn't. Rachel was behind him and the beast would kill her instantly.

His wand arm laid uselessly at his side, probably broken from the Hidebehind. He gave the Hidebehind a mocking smile and stood firm.

"Maybe I should have learnt muggle brawling after all…" he stared into the beasts red eyes, "do your worst fucker."

The Hidebehind attacked with its sharp claws causing Joel to close his eyes.

But the attack never came, when he opened his eyes, he saw a large black snake in front of him. The snake had sent the Hidebehind flying with its body.

"ANYBODY ATTACKS AZURA AND I WILL BEAT THE PISS OUT OF THEM!"

A booming voice was heard all over the battlefield as Joel came out of his stupor.

The snake, Azura, letting out a hiss and started to attack Hidebehinds, relieving the pressure on the wizards.

"A Horned Serpent… the boy is truly a monster." Jaxon muttered with a smile, holding his bloody shoulder.

Anderson nodded and continued his attack, leading the Aurors to repel the Hidebehinds. Newt looked in Art's direction with a worried expression.

'Be safe Art.'

---

Art was carving out a bloody path, slicing through Hidebehinds left and right. Art's expression was cold, he saw the scars of abuse on the Hidebehinds and felt a burning hatred in the pit of his stomach.

"Where are you, you bastard." Art growled, avoiding an attack and cutting off the Hidebehinds head.

Blood squirted onto Art's face who didn't flinch and continued his slaughter.

Soon the Hidebehinds avoided him and focused on the others. Art stood with sword in hand and countless bodies around him.

"Can't kill a student! Pathetic for a man who has avoided MACUSA for so long!" Art yelled into the dark forest.

No one answered and the forest was silent.

Art put his sword away and took out his wand again. Soon a few trees rattled and four large Hidebehinds walked out and a skinny man behind them wearing a black robe with a hood.

"Arrogance… I remember when I was young and full of arrogance." a hoarse voice came from under the hood.

"Then you started to torture innocent beasts." Art said through clenched teeth, his anger rising.

"Innocent beasts?" he let out a hoarse laugh before coughing violently. "No beast is innocent. Their purpose is for us to research to make ourselves stronger. Time for you to die."

He waved his hand and the four Hidebehinds started to move. Art felt extreme danger from them as they surrounded him. Their movements were smooth and precise and filled with strength.

The old wizard also gave him a dangerous feeling as he stood at the back not moving.

The Hidebehinds surrounded him on all sides.

"Little boy, you will know how important my work is after you are killed by my successful experiments." Though he couldn't see the man's face, he saw yellow teeth smiling at him.

Art took out his sword but placed his wand up his wrist, in case the old man attacked.

Suddenly the Hidebehind disappeared. Art's eyes widened as he barely lifted his sword in time to block the attack.

Art let out a painful grunt as he was pushed back. He barely stabilized himself before another one attacked. Art didn't block the attack successfully and a large scratch appeared on his chest.

A vicious, one sided battle continued as Art was barely able to defend, let alone attack. The Hidebehinds were incredibly fast and powerful, outmatching the others.

Art was covered in blood, his breathing was ragged.

"To survive this long… you are indeed special." the old man croaked. "But this needs to end. All of you must die so my location isn't exposed."

"How… how did you know?" Art asked breathless.

"This forest is littered with my research subjects, I have been watching and listening to you since you entered the forest."

"I see…"

Art started to laugh and wiped the blood coming from the corner of his mouth. "I should thank you. I have been in a bottleneck for awhile now. With this, I can finally become stronger."

The old man scowled, "Empty talk, you can barely lift you sword."

Art didn't say anything and held his sword in front of him. His gold eyes glowed slightly in the dark. If you looked closely, you would be able to see a small sheen of gold covering his skin.

Art's wounds started to heal quicker and his body and magic got stronger.

"Through the flames of battle… we are victorious." Art gave the old man a bloody grin. He read his ancestors notes on his bloodline and knew that only when he was pushed to his limits in a life or death battle would his bloodline strengthen and become stronger.

It was the reason for the family motto for being 'per incendia belli vincimus'.

Art placed his wand in his right hand and held the sword with his left. His blood boiled as his strength increased. Feeling his body changing, his wand let out a low dragon's roar, telling him it was ready for battle.

Not waiting for his enemy to attack, Art dashed towards the closest Hidebehind and swung his sword. Using its claws to block, it was about to attack only to find a wand pointed at its head.

BOOM!

A spell shot out and decapitated the beast.

Seeing this, the other three let out an angry roar and attacked Art in unison. Art smiled again, his bloody teeth a chilling sight. Two clones of Art split from his main body and confused them, chasing after them.

Art used this and dashed over to another beast, his body was a blur. He stabbed the beast through their heart and pulled it out. A fountain of blood shot into the air and the beast collapsed.

The old man was furious as he watched his prize experiments collapse and took out his wand.

"AVADA KEDAVRA!" he yelled, firing the killing curse at Art.

Art yelled out a word in the ancient language for binding and used it on a Hidebehind and then through the Hidebehind in front of him, blocking the curse.

The man didn't flinch and continued to fire spells are Art who dodged and weaved, avoiding the deadly spells. The Hidebehind wasn't as lucky as it was hit from spells on both sides.

"Just us now." Art said with a deadly grin.

He muttered another word, causing a few trees to come to life. Large roots shot out from the ground and shot towards the old wizard.

A fierce look flashed across his face as he waved his wand. Blackish flames spurted from the tip of his wand and surrounded him. The roots caught fire and were quickly burnt to ash.

This is the chance Art was waiting for as he grabbed his sword and through it with all his strength at the old man.

The sword was almost invisible in the dark of night and pierced through the flames.

There was a lull in the battle as Art couldn't see if his sword hit the mark or not. After a few seconds the wall of fire disappeared and the man was looking down at his chest where the sword struck.

He tried to pull it out before falling backwards, dead.

Kapitel 74: I Feel Nothing

Art walked up to the man and pulled back his hood. A skeleton of a man with gaunt yellow skin was under the hood. His crooked yellow teeth were stained with blood as he still had a shocked look on his face.

"People like you don't deserve such a clean death, you're welcome." Art said, pulling his sword out of the man's chest and cleaned the blood off.

His blood was still boiling as his wounds were slowly healing. Art clenched his fist as his new strength coursed through his veins. A sudden wave of exhaustion rang through his body and he fell to his knees.

His vision became blurry as he started to pass out. "Bloody hell." he murmured before passing out.

He woke up and found the sunshine in his face. He squinted and raised his arm to cover his eyes.

"Art! You okay?" Newt said, coming to Art's side.

"A little sore, that's all." Art said roughly, "Can I have some water please?"

Newt handed him a canteen which thanked him and drank. Art looked around and didn't see anybody else.

Newt gave a sad smile and answered his unasked question, "They are hunting down the remaining Hidebehinds and raiding the man's lair."

Art shook his head, "Mr. Scamander, have you ever killed someone?"

Newt was taken back from Art's question but slowly nodded his head. "Yes I have."

"What did you feel after?"

Newt thought long and hard before answering. "I felt sick, physically ill. But it slowly went away."

Art looked down at his hands, "I don't feel anything. Nothing at all." he paused and looked at Newt. "Am I the monster Dumbledore thinks I am?"

"No, no not at all." Newt said quickly grabbing his shoulder. "You are anything but a monster Art. You know how I know?"

"How?"

Newt stuck out his hand and Azura appeared and slithered onto Art and licked his face.

"Beasts are the best judge of characters. Humans can deceive humans but not beasts. You aren't a monster Art and you won't become one." Newt said pulling Art into a hug.

Art didn't fight it and went into Newt's arms.

"Killing someone doesn't make you evil. Killing innocent people and beasts is evil. Betraying your friends is evil. You are a loyal friend who helps those in need. If you don't trust yourself, trust me, trust your friends, trust Dougal, Nikki and Azura." Newt said softly.

Art nodded and pulled away from Newt. "Who was the man I killed?"

"A wanted wizard of MACUSA. Disappeared years ago, Heath Widker. Wanted for experimenting on children and protected magical beasts." Newt gave Art a glance, "He was someone who deserved to die."

Art gave him a thankful smile. "Where are we?"

"On the edge of the forest. I split from the group yesterday so they should be back soon."

The rest of the day passed quickly as Art and Newt talked about beasts and magic. Newt told Art that Azura easily slaughtered many Hidebehinds and shocked the students and Aurors.

They had many questions for Newt who said he is letting Art take care of her. Anderson and Alfie were upset that such a dangerous beast was with them the entire time.

"She saved us. Not you." Joel replied to them, taking a cloth and dapping Rachel's face. A large cut was still on her cheek causing her to try and hide her face.

Justin smiled who was supporting Boomer who looked like he went 12 rounds with a professional boxer.

---

The sky started getting dark and soon the others came back. When they saw Art awake they ran up to him and bombarded him with questions.

"I'm fine but thank you." he said with a smile.

"Is that Horned Serpent really your pet?" Rachel asked, still trying to hide her face.

"She is my friend." Art simply said, "Do you want me to heal that?"

Rachel looked at him in shock, "Can you?"

"I received an Outstanding in Healing on my OWLs, it shouldn't be a big deal." Art said.

"Please." she said with a sliver of desperation.

She sat down in front of Art and revealed her face. A cut ran from her temple to her jaw revealed itself. Someone clearly tried to heal it but was unsuccessful.

Taking out his wand he casted a few diagnosis tests and found that there was a poison that wouldn't let it heal properly.

"The Hidebehinds claws had some poison on them prevently it from healing but I should be able to clean out the remaining poison."

Rachel looked like she was about to cry. Art knew that people valued their looks, especially women.

"Don't worry, it will be like it never happened." Art comforted, giving her a reassuring smile.

He pressed his wand gently against her cheek and muttered a spell. She let out a small cry as the wound started to close. The skin knitted back together and only left a faint white scar.

"The scar will disappear with time but what do you think?" Art asked and created a mirror for her to look at.

She looked at the mirror and gasped, touching her face. Tears pooled into her eyes and she hugged Art fiercely.

"Thank you." she sobbed.

"Azura tells me that Joel saved your life. My thing seems to pale in comparison." Art said nodding towards Joel.

She nodded and gave Joel a hug who was stunned but quickly hugged her back. He mouthed thank you at Art who smiled and nodded.

Justin cleared his throat and motioned to Boomer who was covered in bruises and walking with a limp.

"Looks like someone beat the piss out of you." Art joked.

"Yeah well I can honestly say never fight a Hidebehind because you will lose." Boomer laughed before wincing in pain.

"Speak for yourself." Art gave a cocky smile.

Art diagnosed Boomer with 4 fractured bones and multiple internal injuries.

"I have no idea how you are still standing." Art said, very impressed with Boomer's pain tolerance.

"My dad is a No-Maj who is a Marine. He always told me mind over matter." Boomer said, gritting his teeth through the pain.

"My dad is in the military as well." Art smiled, thinking Boomer and him were similar.

"Special forces, right?" Boomer asked.

"Yes, how did you know?"

Boomer grinned, "You shouldn't trust Shelby to keep her mouth closed."

Art shook his head and started to heal Boomer who didn't cry out once.

"Take it easy for a few days. The bones still need to set." Art said.

Boomer nodded and Justin helped him up before taking him to his tent.
