Kapitel 6: Gold!
"Well, Tang San, Jack, I have something to do so I'll be on my way now." Bowing, Wu Yu said his farewell before walking away.
Jack and Tang San waved Wu Yu off then walked into the school, following Wu Yu's instructions to the main office.
Strolling through the city, Wu Yu appreciated many things he hadn't cared for before when he first walked through the city.
For one, the people here were really friendly which makes him wonder why that guard before was so stuck up.
The thing that he really liked about this city was the fact that this city truly was beautiful unlike the two places he had lived in before.
As he was looking around, his eyes constantly darted around everywhere trying to find a certain kind of shop, his only hope was that at least one was in this city.
Fortunately luck was on his side, he didn't have to search very hard and found the shop in a crowded area of the city and stood before it.
The shop was not very appealing to the eye and was squished between two big and successful shops, one sold jewelery and the other was a clothing shop.
Wu Yu looked at the shop an thought to himself, 'It seems alchemists in this world aren't viewed very highly judging by the looks of this shop."
That's right, Wu Yu wanted to become an alchemist, he had seen how amazing alchemy was in his alternate life and how important it was for the advancement of the world.
Even though alchemists weren't very popular here doesn't mean they were useless, it's just the people of this world haven't seen the power of alchemy yet.
Wu Yu imagined himself being the very person who would uproot the people of this worlds common knowledge.
With the knowledge he had from his alternate life, although he wasn't technically an alchemist himself, he still studied it and still had lots of knowledge of the subject.
Finishing his thoughts, Wu Yu broke out of reverie and knocked on the door. When no one responded, Wu Yu tried opening the door.
Fortunately the door opened, "Excuse me! is anyone here?" Wu Yu yelled out as he entered the dimly lit shop that was a mess all over.
"Ah, please wait, I'll be right with you!" a melodious, sweet sounding voice answered him from the back of the shop.
Not too long after, a young girl looking to be around 9 years old walked out from the back with a large stack of books in her arms.
"Ah, can you please?" The girl requested Wu Yu for some help with the books. Wu Yu understood and immediately helped her out by taking half the books.
"T... thank you." Placing the stack of books onto a nearby table, the girl thanked Wu Yu with a bow then rubbed her shoulders.
"No problem, you've been moving this many books for a while now?" Wu Yu placed the books near the other stacks of books and asked the girl curiously.
Taking a better look at the girl, Wu Yu was quite surprised by her looks. She had long, golden colored hair with a pair of similar colored eyes to complement her hair color.
She was beautiful, incredibly beautiful, probably one of the best looking girls he had ever seen in either of his two lives.
Equipped partially in old welding gear with a unique pair of thick brown gloves, she didn't look like she belonged in a alchemy shop at all.
Tucking some loose hair behind her ear, the girl answered, "yep, I'm helping my grandpa with some labor work."
Wu Yu nodded then asked, "so im taking it that you're not an alchemist are you?" while fixated on her welding gear.
"Yeah, my grandpa's the alchemist, I'm actually a welder." The girl nodded and answered Wu Yu's query while heading into the back again.
Wu Yu quickly followed her and asked, "Ah, let me help you. So is your grandpa around? if not, I can come back later."
Lifting up a pile of books, the girl answered, "actually my grandpa left just a bit after you came in, he'll be back soon so you can wait for him here."
Nodding his head, Wu Yu took half of the books from the girl and asked, "So I never got your name, im Wu Yu, a student at Notan spirit academy."
"Oh, that did slip my mind earlier, I'm sorry about that, my name is Qing Guanyu, also a student at Notan spirit academy." Qing Guanyu replied as she walked the books out the back.
Wu Yu was kinda surprised when he found out she was also a student in the academy and exclaimed, "really? I only got in yesterday as a working student."
Placing the books down on the same table, Qing Guanyu wiped away some sweat and asked, "Oh, is that why you're here? to get a job?"
"Yeah, I want to be an alchemist, luckily I found your grandpa's shop in this city." Wu Yu stated after placing the pile of books onto another pile of books.
Qing Guanyu bent backward and streched out body, a few popping noises could be heard as she did so, "So, why become an alchemist, it's not a really sought out occupation, if anything, it's quite boring."
Wu Yu dryly laughed and commented, "ha... haha, I'm sure your grandpa would be quite heart broken if he heard that."
Qing Guanyu just shook her head and said, "my grandpa's knows just as well as anyone how useless the job is and he dosn't really like the job either."
"Hah... that is very unfortunate, you know the job isn't as useless as it seems, the people just don't see it yet." Wu Yu just shook his head in disappointment.
"See it yet? see what yet? I don't think anything could make the job any better." Qing Guanyu didn't agree with Wu Yu and denied it as if it were a fact.
Wu Yu smirked, he looked around the place and noticed a few things that made his eyes light up, "then what if I show you, show you how amazing alchemy really is."
Walking around the shop Wu Yu took off a few items from the shelves and layed them out in front of Qing Guanyu, he looked her and mysteriously smiled.
Qing Guanyu was intrigued and gestured for him to go on, "a bar of lead, blue star dust, volcanic ash, and aged streamline grass? I don't see what you can do with them."
Wu Yu had never heard of the things Qing Guanyu listed out besides lead but he understood that this world might have different names for some materials so he just continued.
Smiling, Wu Yu started explaining, "In alchemy, the most important thing is understanding the materials you use down to the very bone."
Qing Guanyu nodded as she understood that much and kept listening, "the main component in this experiment is the lead, focus on it."
"Blue star dust, this compound has a unique trait that causes it to affect certain materials in certain ways." Wu Yu picked up the star dust and waved it in front of Qing Guanyu.
"When in contact with lead, something special happens." Taking some dust from the glass bottle, Wu Yu sprinkled it over the bar of lead.
As the dust came in contact with the lead nothing happened, the bar of lead just stayed the same with sprinkles of blue dust now on it.
Wu Yu saw the unimpressed look on Qing Guanyu's but kept the smile on his face and continued on speaking.
"You don't notice it but something really did happen, we can't see it but it's happening." Wu Yu picked up another item, this time the volcanic ash.
Wu Yu waved the bowl of volcanic ash in front of Qing Guanyu then said, "Volcanic ash, it's the exact opposite of blue star dust."
"While blue star dust is formed in space, volcanic ash is made by the earth, not many people truly know what these two things can do when mixed together the right way.
Wu Yu took a tiny pinch of the volcanic ash and applied it carefully onto the lead bar, "when mixed together the right way..."
Something magical happened when Wu Yu added the volcanic ash, slowly the lead bar started glowing in a golden hue causing Qing Guanyu to be surprised and Wu Yu's smile to widen.
Continuing on, Wu Yu picked up the last item and asked, "Lastly, aged streamline grass, can you guess what'll happen if I added this to the lead bar?"
Qing Guanyu shook her head and anticipated what would happen when Wu Yu added it. Wu Yu seeing her reaction smiled then put the grass into his mouth.
Immediately, Qing Guanyu's expression changed and looked at Wu Yu strangely thinking, "he ate it? why would he eat grass? if he was hungry cant he eat something normal?"
Wu Yu held in his laughter when he saw Qing Guanyu's reaction and chewed the grass throughly before spiting it out onto the bar of lead.
Qing Guanyu was repulsed by Wu Yu's behavior but kept it to herself. Wu Yu didn't really care if she was repulsed or not, he immediately asked her, "Do you have any kind of cloth around?"
Frowning, Qing Guanyu didn't want to but in the end still ended up giving him a rag. Wu Yu took the rag and lifted the lead bar up.
Taking the rag, he covered up the bar with it then started smearing the chewed up grass all over the lead bar, taking extra care show any part of the bar to Qing Guanyu.
When he finished he placed the covered up bar of lead in front of Qing Guanyu and smiled, "so what do you think happened to the lead bar under this rag?"
Looking at Wu Yu strangely, Qing Guanyu shrugged her shoulders and answered, "I don't know, maybe it's glowing a different color?"
"Nope..." Wu Yu slowly revealed underneath the rag and said together with Qing Guanyu but both in different tones, "...gold!"
Qing Guanyu had shock and confusion written all over her face, she couldn't understand how or why the lead bar had suddenly turned into gold.
Reaching out her hand, she touched the gold bar forgetting that Wu Yu's spit was all over it just a few seconds ago.
She picked up the gold and examined every nook and cranny, from the weight to the density and she even scratched at the surface to make sure is wasn't paint or something.
The was no doubt about it, it was 100% pure gold. Putting down the gold bar she looked at Wu Yu and asked, "how? how did you do it?"
Wu Yu chuckled then said, "I just showed you how to do it, didn't I?" Qing Guanyu then came to a realization and asked, "then, can I do it too?"
"Anyone can, as long as they know how to." Wu Yu plainly stated as he found a chair and sat down, making himself comfortable.
Qing Guanyu was a little bit suspicious, "then why would you show it to me? with this you can create as much gold you want and monopolize it."
"Because that's not true gold, it'll revert back to lead after a few hours." Wu Yu said with a bitter smile, as much as he wanted it to be real gold, it was impossible, at least for now.
Hearing the reason why Wu Yu showed her how to make it so easily, Qing Guanyu came to a realization and let the matter end there.
"Still, what you did was quite impressive, you might've changed my perspective on alchemy just a little bit." Qing Guanyu said with a smile.
"I see..." Wu Yu just nodded. The two of them chatted away about some alchemy and a few personal things that they felt comfortable sharing.
After a bit of time had passed and the sound of the door opening cut their conversation short as Qing Guanyu quickly ran up to the door and exclaimed, "Grandpa! you're back!"
"Hahaha, yes I am, did you finish what I asked of you?" The old man at the door smiled brightly as he saw his cute granddaughter.
"Yep, Wu Yu helped me, the books are all on the table there." Qing Guanyu nodded then pointed at the pile of books stacked up on the table.
The grandpa nodded but was a little confused when he heard an unfamiliar name, "Wu Yu? I don't believe I know such a person, who is he?"
Leaving her grandpa's side, Qing Guanyu ran back to Wu Yu, grabbed him by the hand and lead him to her grandfather, "grandpa, this is Wu Yu, we just met today and he wants to become and alchemist!"
Wu Yu was caught off guard by Qing Guanyu's sudden change in behavior and found her to be quite cute when she acted like this.
Looking at old man who somewhat resembled Qing Guanyu with his golden eyes and good looks, Wu Yu cupped his fist and bowed, "this young one goes by Wu Yu, I would like to work as an alchemist here."
The old man looked at Wu Yu and started stroking his beard, "oh? so so want to become an alchemist? do you mind telling me why you want such an occupation?"
Wu Yu nodded and said, "because I believe I can bring alchemists to new heights!"
(I made up a lot of bull in this chap so don't take it too seriously.)

Chickennugget Reading my own novel I realized it's really clumped together and kinda hard to read so I tried something new, if you liked how it was before, do tell me.
Also this chap may be a little boring but it's necessary for a certain part of the story in the future.
