Kapitel 29: The Purge

285 AC, Tyrosh…

Two days later…

The conversion of the believers of Trios was completed as Trios talked to the priest in their dreams. With this total conversion, nearly 60% of the city became believers of the true God. However, the rest was not converted as their gods were not local like Pattern and R'hllor.

Gerold was leaving Tyrosh today as the city was in their control and there was no one that could oppose them. He was having a last meeting in the temple regarding the situation of the city.

"Yes, Your Holiness, we will do as you wish and ban the entrance of slave owners to the buildings under our control." Innar was taking his last orders from Gerold.

"Good, what about the cartels, are they making any trouble?" Gerold asked as he was curious about the city's underworld.

Innar sighed and said, "They are a bit aggressive as they tried to exhort tributes from people who are under the temple's protection but local holy guards were able to repel them. However, the heads of the three cartels are warring each other so they won't be trouble for the time being." The cartels of Tyrosh were powerful groups of criminals as they controlled a big part of businesses in Tyrosh. They were also doing loan sharking.to the outside of the city so they were a bit influential.

"We will deal with them later, let them tear each other apart for now." Gerold was wearing a relaxed face as everything was going according to his plans.

While the two high-ranking individuals of the temple were talking to each other, there was a handsome man sitting on the table and nibbling a banana and drinking sugar water. This man was Trios, a god who was just a statue two days ago. He was acting like he did not care about what they were talking about but he was still listening to them gingerly as he loved intricate plots of humans.

Gerold stood up and held his staff, "Continue to proselytizing the city and erode their wrong beliefs. I expect great things from you Innar, don't disappoint me."

Innar bowed and opened his mouth to talk but the sudden opening of the door cut him short.

The person who opened the door was a young man. There was a small parchment on his hands and he was out of breath. When he saw Gerold, his eyes bulged out like they were going to jump out of their hole.

The young priest hurriedly bowed to the Gerold and offered his apologies, "Your… Your Holiness, I did not know you were here. I am really sorry for intruding but I have grave news to give to the bishop."

Innar was looking at the young priest with berating eyes as he did not approve his attitude while Gerold ignored his attitude and extended his hand, "Give it to me."

The young priest gave the small parchment to Gerold and waited for an order. However, he didn't wait long because Innar asked him to leave and soon the young priest left the room while Gerold opened the parchment to read. Trios poked his head from Gerold's shoulder to see what was the news and he grinned when he read out it

"Hahaha, fiery cunt is on the move!!" Tiros bellowed out while holding his belly.

Gerold threw the parchment onto the table after reading it and looked at Trios with an angry face.

Innar was confused as he took the parchment from the table to read loudly, "The Fiery Hand surrounded the temple while prayers took place. They set alight the temple, all of the believers are burned alive. There are no believers left in Volantis." Innar gaped as he read and stood there like a dead fish.

The Fiery Hand was a group of slave soldiers employed as guards for the red temple of R'hllor in the Free City of Volantis. It contained a thousand soldiers, never more and never less. Each of these soldiers was a slave of R'hllor. They wore ornate armour over their orange robes and wielded spears with points shaped as writhing flames. As per the custom of Volantis, these slaves had flames tattooed across their cheeks. They were also the most elite soldiers of R'hllor as they were able to take at least 2 Unsullied on their own. Usually, they were only tasked with the protection of the great red temple of R'hllor so Innar was surprised that they were used in this atrocity.

Gerold clenched his hands and grated his teeth. He breathed deeply and sit on the chair, again. He raised his head to look at Innar and calmed himself, "We need to give an answer. If they are attacking our temple now then later they will hunt the believers down in other cities."

"Hahaha, they burnt your temple down, how about you take their red temple down?" Trios asked like it was nothing to be bothered and then whispered to himself, "Hmph, that fiery cunt's followers always harassed mine, now, we will know what she could do…"

Gerold's eyes shined with a white glint when he heard Trios. He turned to Innar with a cruel smile on his face, "Gather all the holy guards in the city in front of the temple then order half of that to hunt down known heathens of R'hllor...also those patternmakers in the city then go to Archon and tell him to not intervene. If he does anything unwanted then he can say forget his position and wealth. I will be taking the other half of the holy guards to that heathens' red temple to cleanse it from their foul beliefs and dark magic. I was planning to forgive them for their sins but the demon who they worship needs to learn the consequences of her actions."

"Yes… Yes, Your Holiness." Innar stuttered while standing up and left the door with major strides.

Gerold turned to Trios and asked, "Are you coming?"

Trios grinned and said, "Of course, I'm comin'. Huh, it's been thousands of years since I smelled blood. However, as per the oath I gave, I won't be able to do the job, personally, so it will be only for watching.

The city of Tyrosh was burning. There was smoke coming out of several places as the holy guards of the temple hunted down and killed the followers of R'hllor. There were even common people helping them out with identifying those followers.

While all of this was happening a big group of holy guards on foot and two-man on their horses were standing in front of the red temple of Tyrosh. Holy guards went forward to open the doors while Gerold and Trios waited on their horses.

Holy guards tried to open the door but the door was barred from inside. One of the holy guards that tried to open the door tried to use force to open it but it was no avail while the other one yelled, "By the orders of the Prophet, open the door so you can be cleansed of your sins by his holy light."

There was a silence for a while then a voice was heard from inside, "R'hllor is eternal. Her greatness shall protect us from you heathens. Pray to Her for forgiveness or else you shall face her wrath."

Gerold turned his head to look at the captain of the holy guards and whispered, "Pour the white water." The holy guard captain nodded his head and went to take a few closed barrels from the cart they brought with them with several holy guards while Gerold rode his horse to the front then turned around to look at the gathered crowd and the holy guards.

"People of Tyrosh, I have come to this great city to cleanse it from its wrong ways. I gave my word to the people of this city that I shall cleanse it not by slaughter but by the words of gods. In just one day, we have ridden this corrupted city from its shackles and opened it to the light of God. We gave food and shelter to the poor and healed those in need. But how did we get paid?" Gerold waited in silence for a while then answered his own question, "Nothing, We did not want anything and we received nothing. While we embraced this city as those who opened their eyes and ears to the words and light of God, demon-worshippers, fire-damned heathens who demanded your souls for her entertainment have sinned again. You may wonder, why people are dying in the streets?"

The crowd yelled in agreement while Gerold continued to talk, "Because these heathens raped, butchered, killed and burned people last night, in this very city. They burned these people as a sacrifice to their demon." One of the holy guards brought a torch to Gerold and he took it to his hands while the crowd cursed those heathens, "I beseech you all, for the love of this city and its people, for the love of justice and truth, for the love of God, help me to cleanse this city from its last sinners with the white flames of God. Now, which faithful man or woman wants to be granted a place in heaven by cleansing these sinful people's souls!"

The crowd roared in anger and justice. They wanted to be the one who cleansed those souls. However, holy guards stopped them from going forward toward the torch in the Prophet's hands.

The Prophet raised his hand and people stopped and silence filled the street. Gerold pointed to a young woman who looked like she was 14, "You, young maiden, come here! God has chosen you to cleanse those poor souls!"

Holy guards opened the way for her and the young woman went forward to take the torch. When she was taking the torch, she accidentally touched Gerold's hand so she blushed like a red apple.

Gerold smiled and pointed to the wet ground in from of the doors of the temple, "Cleanse their souls with the white flame of God, only then you shall be granted a place in heaven!"

The young woman lit the oily ground with sultry eyes. White flames surrounded the red temple from four sides and soon, screams were heard from inside. Heathens tried to open the door but even when they opened it, it was impossible for them to escape as white lames covered everywhere.

Gerold turned to the crowd while the screams rang out in the background, "The sinners shall be cleansed from this great city as the God Will It!"

The crowd roared in the same manner as Gerold.

"GOD WILLS IT"

"GOD WILLS IT"

"GOD WILLS IT"
