Kapitel 15: Back at the Potters

Albus' eyes flew open. He jumped to his feet, throwing on the clothes that he had set out the night before. He moved to the mirror, his deep green eyes finding their match in the reflection. His black hair stuck up all over his head. Annoyed, he tried to flatten it. Though his hair proved itself to be extremely stubborn. He stepped back, spritzing himself with cologne. His door slammed open, making him jump, he fumbled, nearly dropping the bottle.

"Hey Al, breakfa-," James stopped midsentence, a wide smile making its way slowly onto his face. "So who are you trying to impress," he asked, leaning onto the doorframe.

"No one," Albus said, turning to put up his cologne while he waited for the sudden creep of red to fade from his cheeks.

"Mmhmm," James said, disbelievingly. "So what are you dressed up for?"

"I'm not dressed up, I always look like this,"

"Last time I checked you don't bother trying to fix your hair,"

"Well it was especially messy today,"

"Yeah, right," James said, smirking. "And I'm sure that this sudden need for cleanliness has nothing to do with the pretty girl downstairs."

"Of course not!" Said Albus, knowing that his face had turned bright red.

"Clearly," James said, sarcastically. "well hurry up breakfast is ready."

"I'll be down in a minute."

James sauntered out of the room, smirking. Albus sighed, leaning his head against the wall.

Quinn sat next to Lily, laughing at the joke she had just told when Albus came down the stairs. He was dressed simply in jeans and a jacket with his black hair wet from a clear attempt at tidiness. Their gaze met as he reached the end of the staircase, his eyes widened and he quickly shifted his glance to Lily. Quinn's eyebrows rose. What was going on? Was Albus embarrassed that she had seen him shirtless the other day? Or was he mad at her for barging into his room? She lowered her eyes to her food as Albus sat down across from her. A voice suddenly piped up diagonal from her.

"So Quinn have you ever flown on a broom before?" Said James, his straggly brown hair falling into his eyes. Albus' head shot up looking between them intently.

"I rode one in first year when we took the class but I was never very good." Quinn said hesitantly, meeting his gaze.

"Well I could teach you, we fly in the garden sometimes."

"That sounds fun,"

"Great! We can head out after we're done eating,." James said, smiling. Albus was staring at James, a strange expression on his face.

They all ate swiftly and were headed out the door when Albus grabbed James by the arm.

"Go ahead you two," Albus said when Lily and Quinn turned to look back at them "we'll meet you out there." Albus pulled James into the living room, scowling at the smile on James' face.

"Did you need something dear brother?" James said sardonically.

"What are you playing at?" Albus said, stepping close to James.

"Well," said James casually "If you don't like her than she's fair game."

"Fair game?!" Albus said, his voice and anger rising. "You can't talk about her like that! She's not some prize to be won! This is a quality girl, not some tramp that you usually go for!"

"Thanks, that was all I needed to know," said James walking out of the room.

"What?!"

"Tell Quinn I got bored and changed my mind. I guess you'll have to teach her for me," James said pausing at the doorway. The anger drained from Albus.

"This- this was your plan" asked Albus hesitantly.

"Guess you'll never know" said James smirking, he waltzed out of the room and up the stairs.

Albus came out of the house after a few minutes.

"Where's James?" Asked Lily.

"He said he got bored so he went off to do something different."

"I guess you'll have to teach her," Lily said, her eyes dancing with mischief.

"Well-," Albus started.

"See ya!" Lily said, hopping on her broomstick quickly and soaring off.

"So what's the first step Teach?" Quinn asked, turning to Albus.

"Well," his voice caught as he looked at her. "First you sit on it like this," he said, demonstrating. "Then you place your hands here and here"

"Like this?"

"Ah no, it's more," he moved toward her, gently lifting her hand and placing it where it belonged. "there."

"Okay, what's next?" Quinn asked.

"Next you kick off from the ground and you're flying."

Quinn gulped nervously. She pushed her foot into the ground, hard. She shot up in the air, the wind pushing her hair back, making it stream behind her. She laughed, her face cracking in a wide, giddy smile. He hopped onto his broomstick and flew up to meet her.

"Not bad for a newby," Albus said as he leveled with her.

"Oh yeah? Race you," Quinn said smirking.

"I'm not racing you, it would be too easy," Albus laughed tauntingly. Quinn's smile broadened, her blue eyes alighting with mischief as a gust of wind made her hair dance in clouds of golden wisps.

"1.2.3. go." Quinn said quickly, shooting off. Albus turned watching her zoom away and smiled widely as he shot after her, quickly gaining. They were neck and neck, plummeting toward the ground. Albus pulled ahead, landing gently on the soft earth. He turned to see Quinn not far behind. She was going far too fast. She slowed down just in time for her not to have killed him as she crashed into him. Albus was on the ground, the air knocked out of him. Quinn lay on top of him. She pushed herself off of him slightly, her palm on his chest. She stared at him, her lips slightly parted, breathing hard. Her face cracked into a smile and she began laughing, hard.

"I guess you should've taught me how to land first," Quinn said, snorting.

Albus joined in the laughing. Quinn pushed herself up to a sitting position as she laughed, though Albus was rather sad when she removed her hand from him.

"Yeah that would've been smart."

Lily landed near them, her eyes darting around as she assessed the situation.

"What happened?" Lily asked.

"Oh nothing, I just nearly killed Albus, that's all, Quinn said smiling at him.

The sky filled gradually with dark billowing clouds as the day wore on, a cold gust of wind whipped their hair as they rushed inside. The door slammed behind them, forcing out the flakes that began to fall with gusto. They gathered in the sitting room, plopping down in squashy chairs next to the crackling fire. They spent the rest of the day inside, watching the mountains of snow form against all the doors and windows. The darkness of night swiftly descended upon them and before she knew it, Quinn had sat down to another amazing dinner and was now tucked snugly under layers of blankets. Quinn lay, staring at the ceiling, listening to Lily's deep slow breathing next to her. She closed her eyes, the familiar blackness of her eyelids meeting her. Her mind immediately slowed and she felt herself slipping once again into a deep sleep.
