Kapitel 14: Chapter 14

For Dei going out on a date with her ex-husband is definitely not on her to-do-list. When the project was offered to her, she knew that it would be impossible for Richard and her not to bump in with each other since Charmaine will be travelling with her because she is scheduled to spend her summer vacation with Richard and Athena. But still she decided to accept it so she could spend more time with her youngest daughter.

Also, she does not plan to stay in the house where she lived before. During preparation of this trip, she makes sure that she would not encounter any problem in her hotel accommodation which she personally arranged herself. Now, Richard voluntarily drives for her, a gesture that he never does when they were still together.

Too many things are happening now that she never anticipated. She is not ready for it. However, she admits that she likes it. Everything that is happening now is not new to her because even their wedding seventeen years ago was also unplanned.

Dei could feel Richard's excitement even if they were just talking on the phone. He was telling him that he just bought a round trip ticket for two going to Korea. Dei was so stunned because that would be her first time to travel outside the country and it will be her out of the country trip with her best friend Richard.

"What trip to Korea that you were talking about? My classes just started, I am not allowed to skip those." Dei asked.

"Do you think I did not consider that? I don't want you to miss your classes too. But the foundation week will officially start on Monday, and we all know that most of the instructors do not held class during that event." Richard excitedly replied.

"Are you out of your mind? I can not travel in this situation now." Dei protested on Richards travel plan.

"Of course you still can. Also, I already called your parents in Cebu to get their permission, and they said 'yes', they are allowing you to come with me in Korea." Richard insisted.

"Richard, I don't that is a good idea, it is not good for me …" Dei said.

"No more buts. Hang up now and pack, we will be leaving tomorrow night. I'll pick you up before 7 pm. Trust me, we will definitely have fun Dei." Richard said then hangs up.

"In times like this, I wish Richard is just a simple friend and not my best friend who could easily dictate to me" Dei says to herself. "But what I could not understand is why I cannot declined him."

Stupid maybe, she told herself but Dei gave in and packs her things. She knows that Richard is very persistent, and he will not take 'no' for an answer. Once he sets his mind on one thing, he will not stop until he gets it.

Their flight went smoothly, and they arrived safely in Korea. Richard's friend drives them from the airport to the hotel. It was a wonderful experience for Dei, and they spend the first two days roaming around Korea. On their third day, Dei was so surprised when Richard asked her to get dress because they are getting married in Korea.

"Are you out of your mind? What 'wedding' are you talking about? Tell me that I did not hear it correctly." Dei exclaimed as she was shock when Richard told her that they were getting married in Korea.

"You hear it right Dei, you and I, we are getting married here. And for your information, I am in my right frame of mind." Richard seriously said. "Look Dei, what do you think your parents will do to you once they learn about your condition? Remember how much your father values self-dignity."

"I will explain everything to them. I'm their daughter, and I'm sure they will understand." Dei firmly said.

"Ok, but have you thought what are you going to do if something bad happen to your mother? She has a heart ailment, remember?" Richard explained.

Dei was already loosing hope in convincing him "But Richard, you don't have to do this." Dei softly said. "Please understand, it is not that simple." She added begging.

"It is you who don't understand. You are the one making things complicated for the two of us." Richard said.

"I don't want to get married just because I'm pregnant. Getting pregnant is already a mistake, and then this. We are getting married because I am pregnant?" Dei said while crying in frustration because she knows in her heart that there is no way that she could convince Richard. "There are other ways Richard, and getting married is not an option at this time."

Richard's face turned red. "Do not insult me Nicomaine Dei, how dare you prefer to get rid of your pregnancy instead of marrying me?" he straightly said.

"I'm sorry. I did not mean it that way. But please let's be open-minded here. Can we assess the situation first before doing whatever it is that you have in mind? Please Richard I beg you. Let's talk about this first, slowly, step-by-step." Dei continuously beg,

"We don't have time anymore. You have to do this. We need to do this, and please Dei, stop being stubborn. This is the only way to protect you from the wrath of your parents and worst we don't want to compromise your mother's health. You don't want anything bad to happen to her, right?" Richard explained to persuade Dei.

Dei took a deep sigh almost in surrender. "I am thinking about your Dad. You just graduated and then here we are getting married this early. I know he has big dreams for you." Dei said.

"My Dad knows, I already told him before we left, also to Rizza, I need to tell her as well." Richard said. "Besides, I am just getting married, I am not running away and leave all my business responsibility to Rizza." Richard took Dei's hand. "Just trust me on this Dei. Believe me, I know what I'm doing." Richard added.

Dei was left no choice but to give in to Richard's idea of getting married. "OK," she said though still uncertain with the idea of marrying her best friend just because she got pregnant.

Richard widely smiled and hugged Dei "That's my girl, thank you Dei. You and I, the two of us, we will make this, work. I promise, you will not regret this." he promised her.

"It is I who should thank you, because you stayed. Like what I've said earlier, you don't have to do this but still you choose to stay with me." Dei said while tears flowing down to her cheeks.

"Do you remember? I told you that I'll take care of you? I am keeping that promise Dei. I will never leave your side, so please trust me on this." Richard said.

****************

Knocks at her door brought Dei back to present. It was Richard, her irresistible and dashing ex-husband standing in front of her when she opened her door. Her feeling towards him has confused her lately. She is starting to get used to have him around and been missing him terribly when he is not. The mere presence of this man standing at her door, made her heart beats so fast.

Trying so hard to sound serene, Dei greeted Richard. "Hi. You are early, I thought you'll be back by 7 pm, it is only 4 pm." Dei said.

"Dad helped me to finish everything that I need for later." Richard said bragging. "Where are the girls? I bought some burgers and fries for snack."

"Maybe they are on their way back from Athena's violin lessons. Charmaine insisted to come with Athena." Dei said. "Have you eaten?" Dei asked.

"Yeah, I dropped by the office to sign some papers. Mike invited me for his lunch treat for his team." Richard replied. "But, thank you for the concern, that is really sweet, your highness." He added beaming while his hands cupping her cheeks.

Dei stepped back to ignore Richard's attempt to flirt "Why don't you go and freshen up first, the girls will arrive in a few minutes." Richard chuckled. He was proud of himself as he was able to feel a different kind of awkwardness from Dei this time.

"Are you ready for tonight my queen?" He asked. "Not yet, but it excites me." Dei honestly said.

"You better be. Trust me, this is going to be fun!" Richard confidently said.

Dei with a lifted eyebrow said "Scary huh!"

"What is scary? I never turn into a monster at night." Richard said.

"That's not what I mean." Dei said. "I just remember that you had that line too when you were convincing me to come with you in Korea." she explained.

"What did I say then?" Richard confusedly asked.

"To trust you and we will definitely have fun." Dei replied.

"What was wrong with that? We enjoyed that trip right?" Richard said.

"Yes, we enjoyed the first two days, then on the third day we got married." Dei said.

Richard smiled on the thought that she has not forgotten what has happened then, so he quickly asked Dei to tease her "Would you like us to do it again? I would love that."

"You are insane!" Dei exclaimed.

"I thought we needed to get it slowly, step-by-step that is why I did not arranged for it yet. That was how you wanted it right. Had I known that you are expecting. I should do something about it." Richard continued teasing.

"Will you please stop that nonsense? I might change my mind if you won't stop." Dei threatens.

"I'm just kidding your highness. I'll go and freshen up first before my two princesses arrive. See you later my queen. I am so excited for tonight." Richard said and headed to his room.

"This is not just going to be fun. I bet this will be exciting. Knowing you Richard, you will not be this tense for nothing. I can't wait for tonight as well, my king." Dei softly said.
