50% Vengeance of the Abyss Walker (On Hiatus) / Chapter 8: The Myth Behind the Legend

Kapitel 8: The Myth Behind the Legend

Jervaintus, Sirena and a small company of Agnaum soldiers make their way to Jed's Landing, a small port town northeast of Pirhya. Along the way, they find a small host of demons, this time all their faces look like they've been ripped open. Small tendrils reside whip around like a storm inside. The unnerving site made some of the soldiers reluctant to move foward. Jervaintus looks at Sirena, which causes her to nod. He steps forward and entices the demons.

"Come to papa!" He flings his sword out.

The demons give him one collective growl in order to warn him but Jervaintus is having none of it and starts to flip every single one of them off. He even mocks the noises they make to try to piss them off even more. Strangely enough, his plan actually works. The demons had enough and start charging at Jervaintus.

His blood starts rushing throughout his body as he nonchalantly dodges a couple of lunging demons. This sight confuses the soldiers further. What manner of man is he to toy with such dangerous creatures? Sirena watches on, analyzing every little movement he makes until finally, a demon managed to hit him. This greatly angers him, his demeanor changes and his aura of vengeance starts seeping out of his body.

He expertly swings his sword in such a way, he capitalizes on each and every one of them. His new weapon enables him to dispatch them even quicker. If one would describe this massacre, it would be as if a farmer was using a scythe to cut tall grass in a quick manner. Jervaintus was having fun with his new arsenal, the demons start showing hints of fear from him and start retreating to the port. Jervaintus beckons the group to pursue them.

They arive at Jed's Landing soon enough. The site was similar as how Jervaintus saw at the holy city of Jyus'Shin, absolutely decimated. Many of the ships slowly sing as the fires consume more of the wooden vessels. The smell of ash dictates that this town was attacked just a couple of hours ago. Jervaintus walks back and forth, casually stroking his chin.

"What manner of demon would do this…" A soldier looks around.

"Not a demon." Jervaintus turns to the man.

"How? Who else would do such a thing?!" He questions Jervaintus.

"It is the demi-god warrior son of a bitch who is our number one suspect." Jervaintus accuses.

"If that is the case, we are outmatched." Sirena interrupts.

"Exactly, you soldiers take the news to Whittham. Me and Sirena shall remain here and deal with the stragglers." Jervaintus orders.

The soldiers give a salute and hurriedly make their way back with this news. Sirena and Jervaintus investigate the ruins further. They enter the local tavern, which is in tact despite heavy burns from the attack. Jervaintus pulls up a stool covered in ashes, blows on it and sits.

"Can you educate me on the legend of Godfrey of the Fire?" He asks.

She finds a similar looking stool and sits beside him,

"It's a pretty long story." She warns him.

"Go ahead, good way to kill some time as we wait for reinforcements." He insists.

"Long ago, when the world wasn't the shithole it is right now, the God of this world used to live with us. He was proud to walk and look over his creations, like a parent to their child. The humans were also eager to learn and spend time with him. However, there's always got to be a spoiled one in their bunch. This guy pushed his luck and tried to kill God in front of the others. He was quickly stopped and exiled from the realm. With nowhere else to go, he decided to wander to the realm now known as the Abyss. At the time, the Abyss was an empty void. They were clamoring for a ruler of their own, for God neglected it. The man was transformed and became a twisted, malicious being of absolute evil. He became God of the Abyss. He started luring children into the Abyss and then transform them into his minions to spread his malice. His world started to become as big as ours. God asked forth of a brave soul to help him defeat the darkness. This is where Godfrey comes in-- Are you still listening?" Sirena looks at Jervaintus, who has his mouth open with some drool leaking out.

She snaps his senses back into him.

"Ah crap, sorry. Continue, please." He wants to engage now.

"Anyways…God gifted Godfrey a powerful force: The Holy Flame. It was the weapon that helped defeated the Abyss demons. He confronted the God of the Abyss and defeated him after several days of battle. That is how he was ascended to the demi-god status and the legend ends there." She tells him.

"Mhmm…and yet the demons are still here." Jervaintus wonders.

"Right, I also believe that story is a load of horse crap." Sirena rests her hands on her thighs.

"I don't suppose…he made a deal with the God of the Abyss because he had no chance of defeating him." He hypothesizes.

"The only thing I know is that next time we see him, we'll give him the ultimate ass kicking that will be recorded throughout the history of this world." She crosses her arms.

"Hah. I'll toast to that." Jervaintus says.

They hear an explosion occuring nearby. They take cover and sneak out and check the source. They lean against the walls of a house and are careful not to move it much. Sirena takes a sneak peek and sees Godfrey conversing with a large group of Abyss demons. She asks Jervaintus to move closer and he does.

"I guess you're right." She says.

The conversation ceases as Agnaum soldiers, accompanied by Whittham in his battle armor marches to the town. The demons get in position as Godfrey attempts to leave. Jervaintus jumps the gun and headbutts him out of the way. This surprises the demi-god, the demons take notice of this and rush to his defense. Sirena takes out most of the demons with well-placed knife throws from a distance.

"Going somewhere?" Jervaintus aims his sword to Godfrey's throat.

"Seems like I've been had." He sounds disappointed.

Whittham and his army charges at the large hordes of abyss demons. The skirmish has begun.

"I always knew you were a false hero." Jervaintus grins.

"You are not entirely wrong, young knight…" Godfrey's voice lowers.

"Oh?" He shoves the sword until it touches Godfrey's throat.

"I am something more than what you can comprehend. Observe." Godfrey raises his hand, a summoning circle envelopes around it.

"I am no longer the Knight of the Holy Flame. I am a God and all people that I have deemed as sinners…" He says.

A great demon emerges from a portal that rips open the sky in flames. A flaming tornado forms over the ground between the Agnaum forces and Abyss demons and a great demon made of flames materializes into the battlefield.

"Shall be purged." He grins and kicks Jervaintus several hundreds of feet into the air.

Jervaintus takes this opportunity and manuevers his body and sword. Great energy forms around the sword, it's pale green power enchants the blade. Jervaintus lands and stabs the ground, causing a small explosion, disintegrating nearly all demons that were caught in the explosion. He regroups with Sirena and Whittham as Godfrey escapes from their grasps once more. They have a more pressing matter to attend to: a big, angry demon whose flames so hot, it can melt inferior metal armor and weapons. The fire demon roars and the armor of fire that surrounds him becomes bigger. He takes a massive swing and flings soldiers and demons towards him. As the bodies reach the demon, they melt in an instant once they come in contact with it.

"Who dares to approach ME!" He rages and screams.

"I do, you insolent, primitive buffoon!" Jervaintus proudly charges at him.

He is however, stopped by the massive amounts of Abyss demons which greatly vexes him. He channels the power of his weapon once more and sends a pulsing shockwave through them, ripping the demons into pieces. Whithham provides cover fire with his riflemen while Sirena takes care of the higher priority targets the other soldiers could not handle.

Jervaintus finally makes his way to the fire demon and starts to relish this opportunity.

"You will burn, mortal!" He hurls fireballs towards him.

Jervaintus calmly sidesteps the projectiles as they explode and land near the others. He takes a chance and tries to cut the demon's feet. The mystic energies of his sword causes intense pain to the fire demon. The wound causes the fires around it to dim and weaken. The demon screams in pain and curses Jervaintus. He takes a second to admire his sword,

"Damn, this is such a good sword." He smiles and dodges a blow that barely grazes him.

"Oh, I am going to make you into my bitch, I can assure you of that demon. Or death. Your choice." He plays with him.

"You will regret angering me, mortal!" The demon roars once again.

The flames around them become even more intense, the ground beneath the demon starts to heat up, causing the soldiers and demons to move away.

"Oh, so you dance that way. Good." Jervaintus jumps from a building and stabs the demon deep into the center of its torso.

The demon lets out another scream from the agonizing pain from whatever mystic energies the sword is emitting into its body. Clearly, the demon becomes more reckless and violently flails his arms around him, trying to swat off Jervaintus.

As Jervaintus dodges each of the blows and retreats to a building, he suddenly hatches a diabolical plan which makes him do a quick grin.

The plan was simple: He will lead the fire demon into the sea and kill it from there.

"You are such a bad boy, Jervaintus. Thinking of doing that to a poor demon who needs to be put of out its misery." The spirit of vengeance speaks to him.

"Ah! You foolish spirit. You nearly gave me a heart attack." He laughs.

"I like your style. Let us go forth with this plan." She gives her approval.

He grins as his eyes turn into that familliar shade of red.
