Kapitel 48: Trial and Enlightenment (Part 3)

Jake and Talsia had now been in the forest for an interstellar day (52 earth days). Jake originally thought that the dugout he carved out would be enough to shelter them several normal days but it turned out the creature chasing them had a better nose than Jake hoped.

Jake and Talsia prepared to sleep in their temporary shelter when they heard the roar of the creature again returning and growing closer. Jake knowing that they would likely not survive another encounter with the creature, so they decided that they had to keep their distance from it.

Jake and Talsia had both been unable to sleep and so when they heard the roar they got up from the cold ground and began to run once again deeper into the jungle in the hopes that they could lose the creature once again. After that experience, they began to sleep in shifts hunting during the day and moving from shelter to shelter during the night.

Jake knew most would have been depressed encountering similar circumstances, but he wasn't. With interest he studied the variety of life in this dimensional space as had Talsia called it. Some animals were familiar from his Galaxy but others were mysterious and seemed to have originated from different galaxies where life took a completely different path.

Jake was also surprised by how the environment seemed to affect them. Jake had become much more muscular and even felt his intelligence become stronger in this space. Not only that but he seemed to heal faster. The monster chasing them wasn't the only tribulation he and Talsia had to face. There were also instances of predatorial creatures attacking them with sharp fangs and claws and some times even launching mental attacks. Most were taken care of by Talsia who despite looking weak was stronger and more experienced than Jake had expected.

One instant when Jake wasn't paying attention there came to a squid-like creature that tried to latch on to his legs and drag him to its hungry mouth. The land squid's tentacles dug into Jakes delicate skin latching on to him and injecting a paralyzing poison. Just before the creature could eat him Talia managed to stab the creature with a makeshift weapon. The creature quickly retreated underground leaving behind silver blood in its wake. The most amazing part of this all was that the cuts Jake received healed within minutes and the poison seemed to be drained from his system in seconds.

Since the interstellar day had passed they had grown accustomed to living in the Jungle they had learned to build beds high in the trees and hide their scent by using a uniquely smelling tree seen rarely in the Galaxy labeled a Luban tree by the Xuhans.

Jake and Talsia had grown much closer over the course of an interstellar day. Jake had told her about his life on the Technoworld and Talsia had told him about how she was mistreated on her world.

"So why did Calvis take you from your world Talsia? He doesn't seem the type to care about lesser beings," Jake didn't hate or like Calvis. He simply acknowledges his power and had observed his obvious disdain toward the Xuhan race especially during his first contact scare. Calvis made all the Xuhans bow to their better whatever that meant.

Jake saw the reverence in her eyes when he mentioned Calvis but quickly ignored it. Talsia saw him looking at her odd expression.

"He destroyed my planet when I asked him,"Talsia said both shocking Jake and slightly repulsing him before he accepted that his friend was a little bit crazier than he thought.

Before Jake could ask another question, a light like a signal seemed to appeared in the sky.
