Kapitel 147: Investigation
Steve left Peter and the girls in the common room as he made his way back to the elevator. He had just been there to grab something to replenish his energy before the debriefing.
Laura and Felecia both deserved a little brake after the last few months and Steve knew that they relaxed and really enjoyed beings the kids they were, when they were with Peter. Though them acting as such was rare, especially after what Laura went through. Steve still felt a pang of sadness when it came to that matter, he was supposed to be fighting for a better future and an American funded company had done such atrocities.
They were meant to be better.
Though Laura had declined any type of therapy that nearly everyone had suggested, Steve was thankful that she still decided to meet up with Logan every other week. Logan, that was a happy surprise for Steve, especially after waking up in a different century. It was nice to have one of his old friends still alive and kicking, almost as spry as himself.
Though the memory problems were a downer, the more they caught up, the more it helped Logan remember his former life. Though Steve was sure that the old mutant had likely lived a lot longer than Steve's own time period.
Shaking that thought from his mind there was a small ping as the elevator reached its destination. Walking down a small corridor into one of the meeting rooms, the screen was already connected to who he needed to talk to. Jarvis had routed her call there before he had been pinged to come down.
There stood a woman with black hair, sharp eyes that matched her equally sharp face, piercing brown irises, all wrapped up in a tight fitting but efficient black outfit. The emblem of shield, the only designation for the organisation she worked with, or used to work with.
Steve had to wonder for a second what was happening to all the shield assets. With the congress meetings happening, hydra base raids and more, he hadn't had time to check in with Fury and how he was dealing with the organisation that he had helped take down. With the amount of people that worked for shield and not Hydra he did have to wonder what they were all doing.
The woman on the screen was Nick's right-hand woman and she was the only one he trusted with most of his secrets. Some would say all, but those that knew Fury, knew better. This woman was Maria Hill.
A bit of a hard ass when stressed, which was all the time, she was known for her strict and professional demeanour. But at this moment a small smile was shown as Steve walked into the room.
"Captain."
Steve gave a small smile back as he sat down on one of the seats scattered around, placing his shield on the table before him.
"Maria."
The room fell into a small comfortable silence as the two shared a gaze, what most didn't know was that the two of them had been on a date recently. One that had gone well in both opinions. They were professional enough not to let anything slip or bring it up in such a debriefing; but the short few seconds at the start when they shared a gaze was a small indulgence.
Steve hadn't been sure if he wanted to get back out there and he would have said no when Maria broached the subject, but it had been a talk with Logan and how short life actually was that got him to finally bite the bullet and do something. He had also spoken to Peggi beforehand and got her grace.
Say what you will, Steve just didn't feel right going ahead without getting her blessing. Even if they had never really been in a relationship.
Finally, Steve spoke up with the question that had been fast tracked to Shield after the last raid.
"You got any news on the enhanced spotted in Sakovia?"
The point of their meeting was exactly the two people they had met in the last raid. Thanks to the cameras installed in their combat gear as well as Iron Man's suit, they were able to quickly get screen captures of the enhanced faces.
With Shields database of criminals, it was quickly decided on the ride back that they would forward the shots and hopefully get lucky. Though he didn't like the hyper surveillance of people in general and how that information could be used. Their criminal database was still the best. Though Steve would admit he was surprised that they had been able to find them so quickly.
At his words Maria grimaced making Steve sit a little straighter in his chair, when Maria grimaced, he knew it was bad. He was proven right in the next few seconds.
"Yes, you got pretty clear shots of their faces, it was pretty easy to identify the man and woman, though I wish you hadn't…"
Steve frowned.
"Why not?"
Maria let out a small sigh as she brought up the two grabs they got from the base, the white hair of the main and red hair of the woman almost contrasted against each other. But now that Steve looked at it, he could just make out that the two seemed to be related to each other.
'Probably a brother and sister?'
That thought drifted through his mind as Maria continued.
"The reason why is simple. The two themselves aren't high level criminals or persons of interest, their father on the other hand… well you'll understand."
Steve eyes furrowed even further at her words, before a new picture came up beside the two. This time of a man that Steve knew all too well. With the dark red and purple outfit, the menacing eyes, not to mention the helmet covering his head, Steve looked at a picture of Magneto, or rather Erik Lehnsherr.
'Things just became complicated.'
Steve's mind drifted back to the fight only a few months ago. After the mayhem and destruction that was caused by the Brotherhood, Steve had sat down and studied all it's members. It was easy with access to some of Shields files.
What had been shocking and saddening when he went through those files was to find out that their leader, the one that was promoting mutant supremacy, was a survivor of the holocaust, a Jewish boy that survived through a detention camp.
Though sadly it was noted both his parents had been lost.
It took him a while to figure out how such a person could become one that preached supremacy for mutants and Steve had spent a lot of time looking over his history before he finally started to understand.
From what Steve could tell Erik, after surviving had grown fearful of what humans could do. With the memory of what the Jews endured during world war 2, and Mutant persecution on the rise, he was trying to consolidate his people and protect them.
Though the way he went about such affairs was saddening, Steve could at least understand. He wasn't sure what he would do when he had to face him again, but he knew he couldn't let them harm the innocent.
Steve's mind focused once more as look between the pictures of the three.
"How are they related."
His voice was harder now, no nonsense.
"Though the mother couldn't be identified Shield has known for a long time that Magneto sired two children around 18 years ago. The mother is suspected to be Sakovian which might match up with why you found them so close to their home country but..."
Maria trailed off as she looked through the most recent information, they had on the two.
"They two were identified as his children after facial recognition noticed the similarities, they appeared to join the brotherhood of mutants when they were 6-7 years old. We think that the mother took care of them for a while before taking them to Erik for him to look after."
"They were practically raised by the Brotherhood after that point, though they never once were seen causing mayhem, destruction or actually fighting. Until now it wasn't confirmed that they had a mutant ability."
Steve frowned, there was one thing that didn't add up.
"Why are they with Hydra?"
Maria also frowned.
"Recent reports have the two disappearing entirely; it's also should be noted that after their disappearance the Brotherhood also quietened down. They hadn't shown themselves for a few months before they appeared when you met them."
Maria and Steve both went quiet as they processed the information, both reaching near the same conclusion as Maria spoke her thoughts.
"It's possibly Hydra kidnapped them and with the sceptre they could have affected their mind..."
Steve finished her thoughts.
"Creating 2 loyal super soldiers. It would also explain why Lehnsherr and the Brohterhood went into hiding. He's worried about them and has been looking for them behind the scenes."
The room delved into silence once more before Maria finally asked the most important question.
"So, if that is the case. The real question is. Are we going to tell one of the most wanted criminals in the world we just found his kids?"
Steve looked back at her unsure of how to answer that question.
As the two in the room contemplated the moral dilemma before them, a certain AI who had been monitoring the room shifted its attention to the lab. An interesting conversation was going on between Tony Stark and Bruce Banner.

The chapter was a bit longer that i've been donig recently, but this aspect needed to be covered.
Now a bit of a controversial take, i didn;t like that Steve just up and goes back to be with Peggy after endgame. Like the only reason that would make sense i think is because the actor contract was up.
Like there was chracter progress of him finally moving on from his old life and then, bam all gone.
Also needed to adress that whole Magneto angle, so here you go.
