Back to Present

A peal of clear laughter rang out from inside the office. Suddenly, a boy barged in, panting heavily. When the boy entered, he saw Eddie and Alice was all smiles. They immediately changed into scowls when they saw him enter.
"Ma'am! Ma'am! Reporters are hovering around the building. The guards cannot hold them back for a long time. They want to see you. They want to talk to you."
Eddie huffed a sigh, "Tell them, I am very busy. I can not give any clarifications now. Do you understand?"
"Yes, Ma'am."
But the boy again barged in, disturbing the chatting girls.
"Ma'am, what if they get physical or throw stones? What are we going to do?"
This time, Alice spoke, "Keep a close eye on them. If possible, shoot their videos. If anyone gets physical, we can sue them later in a legal way. After all, there a thing called law in this country. They cannot take up the law in their own hands."
Both the boy and Eddie were impressed by the way Alice handled the matter. The boy nodded, "Yes, Ma'am."
"We shall go with our next step now", Eddie said to Alice. Alice nodded in agreement.
...
"Millie!" a girl called shrilly, "The Boss has asked for you."
Millie who was busy sipping her coffee looked up at the girl with extreme irritation. The girl noticed her and rolled her eyes at Millie before leaving her room.
Millie stood up and fixed her skirt and top before exiting the room. She grasped the handle before taking a deep breath. She had a bad feeling at the pit of her stomach. Did she find out? No! How was that possible? She had already checked if there were any surveillance. She grasped in another breathe and pushed the door open. She saw Alice and Eddie acting all gloomy. Millie smiled in satisfaction. That was what she wanted.
"Ma'am?" she called out in a soft, concerned tone. Eddie lifted her head with her bloodshot eyes. Millie was pleasantly surprised as her eyebrows quirked up. Alice scrutinized her from top to toe before she broke the silence, "You are Millie, right?"
Millie turned to face Alice. She found that her presence was quite hilarious. She crossed her arms over her chest as her arrogant self resurfaced, "I am here to talk to my boss. How dare you interrupt us?"
"Millie!" Eddie slapped her hands on the top of the table as she stood up, "How dare you to talk to my friend like that?"
Millie was startled, so do Alice. She never once in her life had seen Eddie get angry to that extent.
"Ma'am, I am sorry", Millie bowed her head, "I just felt that she is unnecessary here."
"Oh!" Eddie wanted to give her a round of applause, "Now, you will decide who will stay and who won't in my office!"
"Calm down, Eddie", Alice spoke calmly.
