In Summers shipments A chairman holds much authority than CEO. It is because till now Elder Summers occupied that place...so the person who sits in that place should be treated with equal respect by board members as him.

While the silence evoked in the whole room, everyone of them are staring at Scott with shock. But he is not at all effected by the announcement and he is sulking as Jean is not paying him attention.
