Kapitel 69: Quoth the Raven

(POV - Lily)

After Lily made a quick call to inform the local huntsmen of the incoming grimm horde, she quickly leapt off the wall and ran towards Qrow.

"What the hell was that, Qrow!?" Lily roared as she skewered a couple beowolves.

Seeing her easily repelling the grimm, Qrow blasted a small flock of baby Nevermores out of the sky and said, "I don't know what your talking about. Be more specific."

She rolled her eyes as she said, "You know exactly what I'm talking about. Qrow, what Magna just did… that's beyond aura and dust manipulation."

A sigh escaped Qrow's lips. He knew she was right. He's been mentoring Magna for 6 years now and he knows first hand what Magna was capable of.

Qrow has seen him demolish buildings with only his hands and heal people from fatal wounds. He's watched him grow, so he knows perfectly what Magna was capable of.

"So what?" Said Qrow, killing yet another grimm.

"Magna is a hardworking boy with a heart of gold. Even after everything I put him through, he forgave me and even decided to learn under me. He's… like the son I never had. Now tell me…" Qrow paused, nailing the heads of a king taijitsu to the ground.

"What are you going to do with the knowledge of what Magna is capable of?" Asked Qrow, his crimson eyes glaring at Lily as a dark red aura flared around him.

In response, Lily just scoffed, "Please. There's no way I'd do anything to the boy my little girl likes."

Qrow's aura instantly disappeared as he looked over towards Lily with wide eyes. Then, after a few seconds, he returned to normal as he grinned, "He's definitely my apprentice alright."

Lily gave a soft chuckle as she rolled her eyes, "Alright Qrow. Less talking, more grimm slaying."

(POV - Pyrrha)

Sitting atop the wall, Pyrrha softly sighed as she turned to Magna. His chest slowly lifted and fell in a steady pace while a small smile adorned his sleeping face.

Making her way over, Pyrrha couldn't help but feel slightly curious about the young man. The things she just saw… they were impossible for even the best aura and dust user.

He was like Pandora's box and she was Pandora. She wanted to know more about him, how he trained, his hobbies.

It… was an odd feeling for her. Most boys her age usually act immature or arrogant, relying on the fact that they have a little skill or an influential family.

Magna, however, didn't seem like that. He had the power to be arrogant but he acted like just another person.

Pyrrha quietly sat down and, with a bright red face, slowly shifted him onto her lap. Her heart started beating like a drum as she tried to fight off the growing grin.

She didn't know if she really did like Magna but she knew he was a great friend to have. I mean, that eating competition they had was the most fun Pyrrha's had in years.

Usually, she mostly focused on school work and training. Plus, she didn't really have any friends her age since her status as 'the unbeatable warrior' stopped any of her peers from making the leap.

That's why, Magna's actions so far made Pyrrha see him in a positive light. The only thing she was a little angry about was the fact that he was holding back in their match.

However, when she thought back to the storm Magna just caused, she was silently thankful that he was holding back.

Though that didn't mean she was happy about him holding back.

Tucking a few loose strands of hair behind her ears, Pyrrha leaned in close and gave Magna a quick peck on the cheek as her cheeks turned bright red, "I promise I'll try to strong enough to be your mat- no. I swear I'll get strong enough to at least walk by your side."

Pyrrha realised halfway through her vow that she might never be Magna's match. Sure, her aura reserves were large and with training, she could combat most enemies but she realistically couldn't see herself being strong enough to fight the storm Magna made.

However, this knowledge didn't seem to bring Pyrrha down as she sighed in relief. Now that she knew she wasn't some 'invincible warrior', it felt like a weight was lifted from her shoulders.

She looked around a couple times and, seeing no one was around, leaned forward as she quietly muttered, "One more kiss wouldn't hurt…"

But just as she was about to kiss his cheek, a dark crimson vortex burst open in front of them. Pyrrha instantly pulled Magna into her chest as she opted for her shield instead of her spear.

From the vortex came a woman. She had long black hair and wore a shallow cut black and red dress with black shorts underneath, with a series of beaded necklaces and a belt that hugged around her waist, carrying the sheath of her sword.

A mask reminiscent of the grimm rested on her face as she glanced towards Pyrrha, "Give me the boy and you'll live to see tomorrow."

Pyrrha was afraid, not for herself but Magna, as she tightened her grip on her shield and yelled, "No!"

The masked woman sighed as she slowly unsheathed her sword, "So be it…"

With her sword gleaming in an eerie red light, the masked woman quickly closed the gap between them and slashed towards Pyrrha.

Pyrrha quickly raised her shield as she tightly held onto Magna. Sparks flew as the masked woman's sword clashed against Pyrrha's shield over and over again.

Seeing that Pyrrha was actually able to keep up, the masked woman clicked her tongue in annoyance before disappearing into a red portal on the floor.

Portals suddenly kept appearing then disappearing around Pyrrha as the young warrior slowly began to panic.

In her panicked state, Pyrrha used her semblance to bring her spear to her, accidentally dropping Magna's unconscious body. She quickly switched to its rifle form and started unloading her gun into the portals.

Once her barrage came to a stop, Pyrrha felt a chill in her spine as the masked woman's voice whispered in her ear, "Behind you…"

Pyrrha gave a loud war cry as the rifle in her hands quickly transformed into its spear form. She quickly turned back and swung her spear in a wide arc.

However, her eyes widened when she saw, not the masked woman, but a red portal. Bullets came streaming out of the portal, drilling into Pyrrha's body and armour.

Pyrrha realised when they hit her that the shots she fired into the portal were being used against her. She was too flustered to properly use her semblance so she tried to deflect the bullets with her spear.

Sadly, by the time the gun fire stopped, Pyrrha was panting hard, bruises covering her body. Her aura was gone near the end but she was able to slowly the bullet down just enough to only leave bruises.

The woman in the masked seemed impressed by Pyrrha's tenacity as she slowly clapped her hands, "You are a strong fighter. How would you like to leave this dull city and join my bandit group?"

Pyrrha scoffed at her offer as she yelled with a voice laced with venom, "I'd rather be shot in the chest with an arrow than join a group of bandits!"

A soft sigh escaped the masked woman's lips as she spoke, "Fine... Well, I got what I came for."

A look of confusion appeared on Pyrrha's face as she slowly turned to Magna, "What do yo-"

She froze mid sentence as she saw Vernal carrying Magna off into a portal. Just before she left, Vernal turned towards Pyrrha and smirked.

Pyrrha could only watch as both woman walked into the portal and disappeared. When the information of what just happened settled in, Pyrrha's eyes became watery for a few seconds before she collapsed forward, completely unconscious.
