It was sunny and she had been walking for almost 6 hours. The deserted land she had been passing through had no signs of life. Its then she realize that she's going nowhere and 3 hours from now the sun will be setting. She decided to look for a place to stay for the night. It might be dangerous out there if she keeps walking till sun down. As she scanned the place, she saw somehow not far, what seemed to be a ruins. She hurriedly went there, as she reach the place she looked for some secure spot where she can rest and be on guard at the same time.
The spot she found was perfect. It looks like a room from before. The collapse building appeared to be a big mansion. And is somehow left to crumble. The wall bricks are missing and it looks like one strong kick and the walls would fall down. As she prepared her foods she scanned the place, now that the sun had set and made the place entirely dark her source of light is only from a fire she made in the fireplace which made her wonder of why there's a pile of logs. She didn't bother more about it, she might be lucky because she don't have to gather some outside.
Finally she had her meal. She sat in front of the fire and let her self warm. As she looked at the fire flickers her thoughts drift and recalled the unfortunate events that had happened to her as to why she ended up in this place.
1849 an era where everything is still vivid. It was after dinner when her parents had called her to come in the patio to discuss something important. She felt that there is something she wouldn't like.
" Mila, in 2 weeks time you will be at the right age to settle down. And we think its a perfect time we tell you that your marriage
had been arrange to the son of Mr. Hennigan." her father started. She was in complete shock. Why wasn't she informed about this. And to think it was already arranged.
" But father, shouldn't i get the right to choose who i wanted to spend the rest of my life with? I cannot marry someone who's not even of my liking! " she exasperatedly said. Making her to even stand from where she was sitting.
" Now dear just calm down. " her mother says in a very soft voice. " Your father and I had been through this. I think you should hear out first the reason for it. " her mom continued. She looked at her parents in disbelief as she sat back.
" Mr. Robert Hennigan had come to my shop days back with an offer one could not refuse. His son Carson is sick and only have years left to live. He wanted a family of his own. To which he will provide the needs and make her future wife live as a princess. Regardless she will only stay loyal and eyes will be on him. Simple. But later on the riches will be inherited by her. And Mr. Carson has eyes on you since you first met at the town where you brought some stuff and you accidentally bump into him. Since then he had been keeping tracks of you. " her father said while taking a pause and have a sip from a tea cup. She's speechless she was being monitored without her knowing. And to think her parents didn't even bother about it. Its seems that they are both in favor of Mr. Hennigan's son proposal.
" I disagree at first after your father had told me about this. Ofcourse as your mother i want what makes you happy. A comfortable and worry free life. After all me and your father is getting old and our shop is barely surviving. " her mother continued. " If Mr. Carson is to offer you something this good ofcourse i want it for you. It's the best for you honey, and i couldn't ask for more. You will get a better life and so are we." Mrs. Tevan, her mother said while holding her hand and smiled at her.
" How could you! Mr. Carson is nothing but a sadist you know that. We heard so much of a rumor about him torturing women to satisfy his evil desires, and to think you want me to marry him? this is absurd! " she exclaimed. Her hands were trembling she was never this mad in her entire life. how can her parents be so blind about this man. Mr. Carson Hennigan might be rich and powerfull but that doesn't mean they have to go this low to even accept the proposal.
" Mila, think about it my dear. Besides what we heard about him were just rumors. No such evidence either to prove that it actually happened." Mr. Malcom Tevan, her father said. She couldn't believe her ears. What happened to her parents? Why are they persuading her? Are they being under a spell?bewitched perhaps?
" I will never be a wife to that man! i have my own life to decide whatever or whoever i want to spend the rest of my life with." she said and stood up. Looking at her parents who were both silent, she left them and stormed to her room.
