Kapitel 1: (1) The Misfortune of Jeremy Lu
As Jeremy stood at the peak of school, he watched the sun gradually leave. The noise of the cars and the sound of students leaving faded away, until only he was gone.
This time I have to do it. Jeremy thought to himself.
As he begins to take the next step onto the path of no return; he was pulled back and as he was losing his balance Jeremy stumbles and fall atop of him. Jeremy looked at the mysterious boy and met his eyes. Though it was growing darker, he could see slightly glow. They were a dark shade of blue. Jeremy thought that remind it reminded him of a violent storm. Strong and turbulent.
"Get off of me," he said though he didn't give Jeremy an opportunity to, as he pushes him off.
Jeremy lands on his butt and watches as he gradually walks away.
"Thank you!" Jeremy yells, hoping that he heard him.
As Jeremy collects himself, he discovers that a pendant is laying on the floor. On the cover was written, To my beloved son, Carter. At that moment he learned that his savior name and made his way down the stairs to find him, but he had since vanished.
I will find him Jeremy thought.
That was how we first met. At the time Jeremy didn't know it, but that was the start of a series of misfortunes and tragedies that he had never experience…
Three Years Later
It was the start of their final year of school and Jeremy has since become friends with Carter. Though at first Carter had no intention of getting close to anyone Jeremy still found a way to get him to open up a little.
As Jeremy was on his way meet Carter, he felt a dull pain on the back of his head. When he reached back to touch, he felt a sticky substance and brought his hand back to see he noticed it was blood. Those were his final thoughts before he blacked out.
"Hey wake up," someone whispered.
Jeremy started to come to and looked to see a girl around his age next to him. As seconds passed, he began to take in his surroundings. Jeremy noticed that they were tied up and were in a dimly lit shed. He can hear the crashing of waves and assumed they were near the shore. Though where exactly they were, he could not say.
"Are you okay?" she asked.
"Yes, I'm fine. And your name is?" Jeremy asked.
"Alice Chu" she replied.
She went on to explain how she was taken and locked up in this shed. She said that she had only been inside the shed for a few hours before Jeremy showed up and expressed her belief that this was related to the human trafficking incident that has been occurring inside the city recently.
As Jeremy had no reason to doubt her, they formulated and plan and executed it. As a result, hours later they were able to escape but not without Alice taking a gunshot for Jeremy.
While carrying Alice on his back Jeremy was fortunate to find a pay phone not too far and alerted the authorities soon after as the siren wail in the distance; he covers Alice's wound hoping that she does not die from blood loss.
One Year Later
It has been almost a year since they were taken. Carter, at the time, was restless and searching for Jeremy who had not been answering his phone since the morning. Upon hearing that he was at the hospital, he had rushed over. Jeremy had introduced Carter to Alice as the person who had helped him escape from the kidnappers and who took the bullet for him. Since then they've all been inseparable. Until the day that Alice asked to meet with Jeremy.
They met at a coffee shop near the campus of the university they all attend. Alice was already seated basking in the light she looked very angelic. The warm sun was touching her jade-like skin.
"Alice you said on the phone that you wanted to speak to me? Is something bothering you?" Jeremy asked.
Alice is silent for a moment, and then Jeremy notices that her eyes begun to turn red as tears started to flow down from her cheeks.
"Jeremy. I've been trying so hard to keep this in, but I can't sleep at night, and I feel like I am suffocating if I don't tell someone," Alice exclaimed.
Jeremy is dumbfounded as he had always thought that Alice, like Carter, was so resilient that they rarely showed these kinds of emotions.
"What is it, Alice? You can tell me. I will try my best to help you out." Jeremy responded.
Alice looked Jeremy in the eyes and let out a small chuckle.
" What can I do Jeremy? I am in love with Carter, but I don't think he sees me more than a friend. I don't know what I can do to make him like me." she says between her sobbing.
When Jeremy heard that Alice loves Carter the world seems to stop. The words that he never dared to say she said so quickly. Jeremy too was in love with Carter. He didn't know when it happened, but as he spent more time around him, he had understood that Carter has more dimensions than he shows on the surface. However, whether it was status, family, or personality; Jeremy knew that he was not suited to be with him in that capacity. Therefore, he silently held a torch for his best friend for years.
Alice is an honest person… Jeremy thought. She is best suited to stand atop the world with him…
So, Jeremy had initiated his plan to help bring them closer together despite the heartache and tears that he shed along the way. They both deserve to be happy. Is what he convinced himself to think every time he helped Alice.
Present Day
You are cordially invited…. To celebrate the union between…
Jeremy placed the invitation down and looked up at the ceiling with a bitter smile. A single tear can be seen falling downward.
I've succeeded in bringing my two close friends together Jeremy thought to himself. Jeremy decides to pour a glass of wine for himself, but as he is about to reach for the wine, he places it back knowing that such a thing won't lessen the pain. Therefore, he decides to go running.
He puts on his running shoes and is out the door in a few minutes. He begins to take in the city as the night sky is rarely this clear and the breeze this cool. As he picks up the pace, he feels his heartbeats getting faster and harder despite not going so fast.
Jeremy then hears a sudden clank and jumps back. When he recovers, he looks to see where the noise was coming from only to see that it was a puppy trapped in a cage. The puppy appeared to be abandon while also being frightened. He, therefore, decided to help him out of the pen.
Upon freeing the puppy, he went up and licked Jeremy's hand and ran off into the night. Jeremy was beginning to head back when a bag was placed into his head and taken away.
He could hear the fragments of the conversation, but also focused on calming himself down that he could only catch a few words, "Warehouse… Arrival 5 minutes… bring the money…"
As he is led into a room with the bag still over his head.
"Take off the bag." The familiar voice replied.
When Jeremy could see again, he noticed that the person standing in front of him was someone he considers a friend, Alice. But why is she here? He thought to himself.
"Did you enjoy the ride here? Jeremy, I never expected you to be so pretentious. All this time I believed you were a loyal friend, but I would never have expected you were lusting over something that does not belong to you." Alice exclaimed.
What is she talking about? Jeremy thought. When did I offend her? And why is she behaving this way?
"No need to respond. I already know everything. Did you believe that you can be with Carter after all this time? No, you seem not to remember your place? Only I am suited to be with him, and I have you to thank for that. You were a very useful pawn in my quest to conquer his heart," She coolly said.
"How do you know that I have feelings for him? And what do you mean by pawn?" Jeremy responded.
"Do you know the reason why Carter never showed up to that place all those years ago? It was because I found the letter you wrote to him confessing your true thoughts to him. When I read it I had never been so disgusted in my life, so I did what was best for him and burned that letter, and when he didn't show up, you were so heartbroken that it came time for me to cry on your shoulder and help me get together with Carter."
As each sentence hits Jeremy's ears, he starts to feel numb, unable to believe what he is hearing. Alice, the girl whom he thought of as close friend would do something like this.
"Also, our meeting was no coincidence. As you can see I have ways of getting what I want. That year when we first met. I had you kidnapped with the purpose of getting close to Carter. I spent a year trying to find a way to get close to him, and as luck would have it, you were the answer." She proudly confessed.
"I knew that he was someone who closely guards his heart and is someone who hardly lets a person in, but seeing that you were on friendly terms with him I decided to take a chance and as you can see the results were favorable." She continued.
"But the bullet you took for me?" Jeremy asked.
"It was a mixture of both planning and determination. The people I hired were by no means petty criminals, and their precision with a gun can be something worth admiring. Therefore, I ordered them to take the shot when both of us became aware that there was someone with a gun attempting to keep us from escaping. Thus, if I wanted to leave no room for doubt in your heart I took a gamble and trusted that you would save as the distance to a phone was not far." Alice answered.
Jeremy felt as each word pierced his heart and every second after his heart was bleeding.
"Now that you know all this you can know the reason I brought." She whispered as she neared me.
Shaken, Jeremy didn't notice Alice taking a knife out of her back pocket and quickly embeds it into his stomach.
"Goodbye, Jeremy. Your sacrifice was necessary for my happiness. Don't worry I will comfort Carter as we grieve the aftermath of your passing." she says as she proceeds to leave the warehouse.
Jeremy collapses as the blood flows down more and more till there is a pool of blood. As he lays on the cold hard floor, he can't feel anything as a cold dark abyss sweeps over him.
Carter… Please take care of yourself…
Those were Jeremy's last thoughts as his life came to an abrupt end.

As now as he is brought back to the point where he first met Carter we will get more on his thoughts and understand how he went from being his savior to being someone he fell in love with.
