"It's not that I think you are lying, but it feels like I have an unending workload that's all," Laura said trying to sound casual but James was listening to what she was saying and was not paying much attention to her tone of voice.

"Do you want to stop?" James asked. He was listening to her and his face did not have a trace of annoyance or anger.

"Ah, no, that's not what I'm saying. I know this is a necessary process, I just can't properly complain if I have to explain to people why I'm complaining it would completely ruin my mood." Laura said.

James understood she was not complaining to him as if he was her boss, but it was more of how one would complain to their partner. However, since he was in a position where he could change her current situation, he couldn't help but ask her.
