Kapitel 7: Starting to Cultivate

Shi Li looked at the two cultivation techniques he chose and nodded his head as he was sure that these two were the ones he needed to attain his goal. He then gave them to his father and said, "Father, these two techniques are the ones I'll cultivate."

Shi Xingwan received the two techniques with both hands and skimmed over them, only to look at Shi Li with confusion. "[Steel Body Manual]? [Iron Vessel Tempering Manual]? Are you sure these are the techniques you're going to cultivate? Wouldn't you settle for something less harsh?"

Knowing his son well, even though the drive to cultivate was reignited, he was sure that his son would choose a technique that was easier to cultivate even if he his son said that he would cultivate both internally and externally.

"Wouldn't the [Breeze Tendon Art] and [Wind Requiem Art] suit your body better?" Shi Xingwan suggested as he gave a worried glance, "With your current body type, you would benefit from these kinds of techniques, would you not?"

Shi Li shook his head. "Father, though it is true that I would benefit more from those techniques due to my body type, I would still like to cultivate these two because I'm sure they'd benefit me in the long run."

Shi Xingwan sighed as he gave up convincing his son to pick an easier technique. 'If that's the case, so be it. I'll support my son, but I hope he doesn't regret what he has chosen. It would also be a waste of his aptitude if he gives up.'

"Can you at least tell me why you've chosen these techniques, my child?" Shi Xingwan couldn't help but ask.

"As I've said earlier in your room, Father, I have three reasons. First of all, I'm weak wherein a simple blade could end my life if anyone wanted to. The techniques I've chosen bolsters my defense to a great degree so even a refined blade couldn't harm me hopefully. It's also in the same line of thought for my second reason, which is 'I won't let anything like that happen to me again.'"

"But of course, the most important reason why I've chosen these techniques is the third reason," Shi Li squinted as light flashed through his eyes, "That is nothing else but to destroy the Huang clan, and to do that, I would need huge amounts of strength, which the techniques I've chosen fulfill."

Shi Xingwan didn't expect that his son was actually serious about killing the Huang clan. Though he only heard it for the second time, he could feel his son's resolute gaze towards him, as if nothing could stand in his way.

'In any case, if he grows to a point where he could single-handedly destroy the Huang clan, our Shi clan would prosper for sure.'

After a few moments of silence, Shi Xingwan looked at Shi Li and smiled. "If that's your reason, then I have no choice but to let you do so. Don't come to me crying about how hard to cultivate the techniques are, okay?"

Shi Li looked at his father and nodded with a smile. "Of course Father, I won't let you down!"

...

Shi clan, Shi Xingwan's room.

After Shi Xingwan told Shi Li a few more things about the basics of cultivation, he left Shi Li alone as he went back to his room to sort out a few things. The things he wanted to sort out included the potential war between the Shi clan and the Huang clan.

Once he entered his room, he closed the door shut and sat cross-legged at the center of the room, examining the current state of his Energy Core. Peering into it, he saw that his Qi Bridge was denser compared to the time he last checked it. Not only that, the amount of liquid qi surrounding his Qi Bridge expanded in radius by a significant amount, which he could use to fortify his Qi Bridge even further.

'By the looks of it, my Qi Bridge is currently composed of 6500 strands. I need around 4000 more qi strands to completely solidify my chances of breaking through to the Martial Lord realm.'

He then converted the liquid qi around the Qi Bridge into qi strands he could use to fortify the bridge as he mulled over the things that happened a few hours ago.

'Though I'm happy my son is starting to cultivate, I just hope he's at a high enough realm to fend off attacks from the Huang clan once the war does happen.'

'If he doesn't...'

At that point, he opened his eyes as a faint killing intent spread throughout the room.

'I'll fend them off for him, even if it costs me my body.'

...

Shi clan, Shi Li's courtyard.

After relying on the old Shi Li's memories to locate the old Shi Li's courtyard, it took him a few minutes of sprinting to get there as he held on the two techniques firmly.

He took a few deep breaths after making sure that the courtyard he entered was his. The courtyard he entered was quite special compared to the other courtyards that surrounded him. His courtyard was slightly bigger compared to the others, which could be attributed to him being the patriarch's son. The world energy within his courtyard was also slightly denser compared to the others due to a special energy gathering formation installed under his courtyard. His courtyard also had a large training space found at the back, which other courtyards didn't have.

He then proceeded towards the living room area of the courtyard and sat cross-legged on the mat laid down neatly on the floor. Afterwards, he placed the [Iron Vessel Tempering Manual] beside him as he opened the introductory pages to the [Steel Body Manual].

'According to Father, the optimal method of cultivating internally and externally is to cultivate internally first before cultivating externally. He also told me that the true essence of cultivating internally is cultivating the soul and energy, while the true essence of cultivating externally is cultivating the body.'

'So does that mean that neglecting to cultivate either the body or soul would lead to a decrease in control over the body and soul?'

Shi Li shook his head. 'You know what? I'll save that question for later. For now, I should start cultivating the [Steel Body Manual].'

According to the [Steel Body Manual], it has three stages of fortification. The first stage is to temper the skin of the cultivator into steel, the second stage is to temper the muscles of the cultivator into steel, and the last stage is to temper the tendons of the cultivators into steel, unifying them together.

But since the [Steel Body Manual] is an internal cultivation technique, the skin, muscle, and tendon referred in the manual didn't mean the cultivator's actual skin, muscle, and tendon, but it instead referred to the skin, muscle, and tendon found...

In the soul.
