Kapitel 4: Staff Sergeant (2)

I've gotten a notice from the Major. My troops and I are needed by the end of next week to the neighboring base. The Adsum troops are advancing to defend their sector.
I glance from my office to view my group. It's only been a month and they're already close to perfect soldiers. Well disciplined, and loyal enough to not flee the flames of battle. We will be ready by next week, maybe even sooner.
A nearby explosion booms and shakes the ground below us. It's grabbed all of our attention and there's a brief silence just before the attack sirens start blaring. More explosions are heard and in a panicked but orderly frenzy we prepare for battle and head outside.
There are snipers from the trees around us using high tech alien lazer beams that only the Novus sector is capable of having. They must've infiltrated another base and are using our own weapons against us. "SHIELDS!" I yell and we all press the yellow button on our suits located on our right shoulders which activates a yellow force field around our heads. It acts as another layer of helmet and to an ordinary person would weigh heavily. It can only be used for so long before it starts to damage the neck. We have to take out the snipers as soon as possible. Luckily one of my men spots them and signals to the others their positions to take them out. We're saved for now but the explosions continue. The high pitched scream just before the blast is familiar. They're the same bombs we've been using against the Adsum sector to minimize their territory. From the sound I can locate how close they are to us. "MOVE OUT!" I signal and run to the opposite direction towards the woods. If we start now we have a chance of survival which may be the success of Novus.
I hear a gun beam shoot down one of my men to the ground. There are more Adsum troops in the trees around us in the forest. They predicted we would run here to avoid the bombs. I let me group know the situation and we take cover with our guns to scope out the enemies in the trees. We fight them off for a while until my group of men is down to five. Some of the adversaries have jumped from the trees and are following us on foot now as we run. There seem to be only six left on our tail. I throw a sap grenade behind us and it explodes trapping two enemies inside a bright blue sticky blob but that will only last for so long. We're reaching two dead ends and I signal to enter the cave but the three other men jump off the cliff and into the water. Disloyal bastards are going to die by piranhas.
There are many pathways in the caves which I figure if we'll lose them easily in here if we're lucky and fast enough. Our glowing golden helmets help us to see as we trek through the thin crevices and holes. It's like a maze and I hope once this is over we'll be able to find out way out. We find a dead end in an open spot big enough for a campfire or a small tent and listen keenly for footsteps. "We'll hold out here until they find us. I'll set up some traps here so we'll know when they're approaching. Then we'll hit them."
