"Hello An Qi, we would like you to come to work on Monday!" As she was at Dong Manman's door, An Qi received a call from the Leng Group. However, before she could even reply, they hung up the phone in a hurry.
An Qi looked at the unfamiliar number as she whispered, "So strange!" She then knocked on the door.
Normally, Dong Manman's loud reply would instantly be heard following her knocking. However, this time, even after almost five minutes had passed, the bedroom within was still quiet.
As An Qui knew that An Yufei was also in the room, she worried... What if something bad happened?
At the thought of this, An Qi knocked more urgently on the door. With a squeak, the door opened a little. It was An Yufei, who had just opened the door. An Qi did not notice anything unusual, so she walked in with long strides.
The next second, however, she was shocked by the scene in front of her. An Qi's father, An Shijie, was sitting upright on the sofa.
Upon seeing him, An Qi's voice seemed to be stuck for an instant and she could not talk. An Shijie glanced at An Qi casually, then leaned back on the sofa. His gaze kept switching between An Qi and Dong Manman.
He did not ask Dong Manman any more questions regarding the fire, but he was clearly dissatisfied with the attitude of the two women. "You two are just like when you were young. When you do something wrong, you just stand there pouting, as if someone has just made you angry!"
Just as An Shijie said this, An Yufei saw both her mother and Aunt Manman holding their heads high, as if they had done nothing wrong. Then, Little Yufei took a few steps forward and smiled at Anshijie before saying, "Hi, Grandpa."
These simple words traveled through An Shijie's nerves and shocked him. An Yufei was not surprised at An Shijie's reaction, while she put on an even more excited expression, took An Qi's hand, and went over to An Shijie.
"Mom, this is my grandfather! It's great to have a family reunion. This way, you don't have to secretly wipe your tears away while looking at photos every night!" she said.
Little An Yufei's words shocked the usually calm An Shijie, and his shoulders began to tremble slightly. Thus, An Yufei, like a lubricant, had connected her mother and grandfather.
An Shijie looked at An Qi, who had hardly changed. Tears were rolling down his cheeks uncontrollably. When An Qi saw her father tearing up, she mellowed. She then sat down on the sofa and embraced her father.
Dong Manman was touched at this sight and quietly excused herself. For so many years, although she had tried to avoid An Shijie, as she did grow up under his care, she knew that she owed An Shijie a lot.
"Qiqi, come home with me." After sobbing for quite a while, An Shijie said through his tears.
Just as An Qi was about to agree, she suddenly thought of An Yufei, who was standing behind her, and frowned. "Dad, Yufei is my daughter. I won't abandon her," she said, while she cleverly stepped forward to lean beside An Qi.
She then stared at An Shijie with her shining big eyes, smiling, but not saying a word. After hearing An Qi's words, An Shijie's smile froze instantly. If it had not been for his domineering character, An Qi and her mother would not have stayed away for so many years.
Just when An Shijie was blushing and at a loss for words, An Yufei gave him an innocent look, raised her little chubby hand, and wiped the tears off of his face. "Grandpa, don't cry. You won't abandon me, right?"
When faced with her comforting words, An Shijie's heart softened. He held An Yufei's small hand, while hugging her tightly in his arms. After all, blood was thicker than water, and the moment An Shijie grasped An Yufei, the image of An Qi as a child appeared immediately before his eyes.
"Ah, you're such a good girl." An Shijie gently patted An Yufei on the back, then said, "You can rest assured that your Grandpa has realized his mistake. I will never let you and your mom be separated again. Can you forgive your Grandpa and come home with me?"
Although An Shijie was speaking to An Yufei, his eyes never left An Qi, who was longing to be with her family. As An Qi could not reject her father, she nodded her consent to An Shijie's question.
Seeing the situation, An Yufei was very happy and hugged her grandfather tightly. This happy scene almost made An Qi tear up. She instinctively wanted to find someone to hold her, too, so she looked around, while wondering… When did Dong Manman leave?
An Qi grabbed a post-it pad and left a message for Dong Manman. Then, she silently followed behind the happy pair of grandfather and granddaughter, leaving Jinxiu Huating.
At the same time, Gu Xiaonan's mobile phone rang. Within a few hours, she had returned to the professional Manager Gu, who was sporting a thick layer of lip gloss on her full lips, which were as red as ripe cherries. In those days, she also relied on her lips to talk her way into Yu Hao's heart and bed!
"Hello, is there any new progress on An Qi's side?" a male voice asked.
"Oh, it's your turn to guess this time," she replied.
Under the street lamp, the man's shadow was stretched very long. He took out a tobacco pipe and put it in his mouth. "Cut the crap, you should know my current mood, and I have no time to beat around the bush with you!"
Gu Xiaonan's high-heeled shoes were making loud noises, and her mood became very tense in an instant.
The man sucked on his tobacco pipe and asked, "How long do you need to get back on your feet? Didn't your mother and I teach you to handle your matters?"
His words hit a soft spot in Gu Xiaonan's heart, so she roared back at him, "Get out of here! The reason why I am here today is entirely through my own efforts. It has nothing to do with my mother or your money!"
"Oh, is that right?" the man asked.
Gu Xiaonan's paranoia had made the man lose all interest at once. He then asked, "Well, when you get home tonight, An Qi will give you a big surprise..."
