Kapitel 68: Traitors (3)

When I appeared at Geofu, it was in the midst of total chaos; the fire was reaching the sky and screams were everywhere.

Then a couple of knights seemed to be chasing after civilians while brandishing their swords, obviously not playing any games.

I teleported to stand between them, said toward the knights, "Stop! What's going on here? Why are you hunting your people?!"

"Kill!!!"

"Heretic!!!"

Those were the responses I got before they were charging toward me at the same time.

I summoned a Qi blade then cut their swords in half, hoping for them to back down, but it was futile, they continued to assault me with the now broken swords.

Have they gone insane? I did notice the knights' eyes were pure white; it's like perfect insanity.

I dodged several attacks, then with one hand aimed toward the knight on my left, I shot a bluish glow and instantly knocked him out. Meanwhile, for the knight on my right, I swept his feet to stumble him, then I pinned him down with my foot.

"Now calm down, tell me what happened."

"Kill!!!" he shouted while struggling to break free.

Heesh, it felt like talking to a robot, I glanced toward the civilian I just rescued; it was a pair of elderly.

"Hope you can tell me anything, this one is broken."

The woman was weeping, while the man's expression was pale, he spoke with trembled lips, said, "Mister, I-I also don't know what happens, t-these knights suddenly barge inside our house, my son... he... he..."

At this moment, a number of knights rushed from the corner of a building, they were charging toward us with raised weapons.

"My condolence, now if you excuse me," I reached toward the elders and teleported together to Black Citadel.

"King!" a couple of Dark Elf approached us.

"Bring them to a guest room and serve them warm meals," I said.

"Y-yes, King!"

I appeared inside Olga's room and found the beautiful queen sat on the top of her bed with closed eyes.

Was she practicing? I thought a bit then decided to call her softly.

Her long ears twitched before Olga opened her eyes, looking at me in delay for quite a while before quickly replacing it with some excitement, said, "Abe, my magic! My magic has recovered!"

No wonder she looked elated, the reason for her supposed defeat today was the decline of her magic, so getting it back must have been a nice surprise.

Hmm, sleeping with me did improve our respective strengths, gotta give it to the elephant in the room for being such an upstanding dick.

"I'm happy for you, but we got a problem in hand," I smiled.

"What's the matter?" Olga startled.

"Fort Geofu is under strange phenomenon; the knights are attacking people, it feels like they were charmed or cursed, I wasn't sure yet, but I think I know who is responsible."

"Okay, do you need me to dispel it? But depending on the level of the charm, I can't guarantee you anything."

"Sounds fantastic, also we should bring Chloe and several Dark Elves who can fight, the life of the people is at stake," to be honest, I could dispel the charm myself, but I decided to give the job to Olga.

I thought of something, then quickly said, "But is it alright for you? I mean, those people were your enemies."

Olga went silent, then she said, "I don't know, these people are the victims of the Church's propaganda like us, I don't think they deserve being condemned."

She frowned, "But it doesn't mean the old enmity between us will disappear, even when they are brainwashed, those blood in their hands are real and fresh."

"That's for the knight, what about the people?"

"One doesn't need a butcher knife to become a butcher."

"So why are you coming again?" I wrinkled my eyebrows. Her statement seemed to be contradictory to her intention.

Olga's cheeks turned red, she glanced to the side, said, "It's you."

"Huh?"

"D-don't get me wrong, I... I just don't want to sit around while you're doing all the legwork."

"..." my eyes widened, I didn't know this elegant Dark Elf could be this cute, I thought about laughing, but the situation didn't allow me to relax.

"Okay," I chuckled, then extending my hand and said, "let's go."

Olga nodded, she came forward and grasped my hand, afterward, we teleported to pick some of the Dark Elves, then returned to fort Geofu.

"King, what do you want us to do?" Chloe said. If before she only had respect for me, now I sensed a feeling of warmness.

"Help these people, I don't know if this a godsend, but it helps us tremendously to build our image, so make sure you do your best to get everyone to safety, oh a reminder, the knights will not hesitate to kill in their state, so if you think you can't handle them, I give you permission to kill them. Your mission is important, but your life is more important to me," my eyes swept the group of Dark Elves, making sure to gaze at each of their faces.

"Yes, King!" they responded with a firm attitude.

"Chloe, you have another job that is to protect Olga, she will be dispelling the knights' charm, so she will be vulnerable for a couple of times."

"Rest assure, King!" Chloe nodded.

"Abe, what about you?" Olga said.

"I'm going to confront the perpetrator, usually killing the caster will end this mess for good; if he's the perpetrator," coldness flashed across my eyes, I gave Olga and Chloe a quick kiss before patting the rest of the Dark Elves' heads, then I disappeared.

The Dark Elves formed two groups, one group was Olga, Chloe, and another Dark Elf. The other group had about 4 Dark Elves with them.

Olga's group handled the knights, and the other group handled the civilian.

"Kill!!!" three knights saw them, Olga extended her hand and three purple magic circles manifested.

"Dark Binding."

Several chains made of darkness shot out, wrapping around the body of the knights and restrained their movements.

Chloe's eyes sharpened, she swung her sword and killed the three knights.

"..." Olga didn't react much to her action, but the rest of the Dark Elves were shocked, weren't the King said they could kill the knights only when they couldn't handle them?

"I hear the king gave permission to kill, that's all," Chloe said.

The Dark Elves exchanged glances, now they didn't know what they should do.

"Chloe, this will be the last time," Olga said.

"...Yes, Queen."

...

I approached several knights, it didn't take a second for me to put them all down, their situations were all similar, shouting 'kill' or 'heretic', I couldn't get anything from them at all.

"Negate," I patted one of the knights and cast the spell to erase any trace of magic, however, it only worked toward anything related to magic, and the rate of success depended on the difference between my skill and the opponent's skill.

"Kil----huh?" the knight's white eyes regained clarity, he woke up whilst confused.

So he was charmed by a spell, but looking at the number of victims and the state of the fort, I suspected more than half of the order had been affected.

"I... where am I? Who are you?" the knight asked in bewilderment.

"Feeling better? Or do you still feel like collecting some heads?" I said.

"What?"

"Look," I showed him the other knights, who still shouted the same shit over and over. Seriously, learn a new vocab.

"Parker?! Tony?! Hawk?! Y-you guys, what's wrong with you all?!" naturally his comrades didn't respond like normal people.

"Yeah, I have tried to crack that code, doesn't work," I rubbed the back of my head, "I can break them free from their charm though."

"Really?! Mister, please help my friends!"

"Of course, I still need some answers after all, but the situation is tight... we should get the civilians to safety," I frowned, "you, I have a job for you and don't waste my time with questions, after I helped your friends, you gather as many as civilians you could find and find a place to hole in, clear?"

"Y-yes," the knight nodded.

"Good," I went to all the knights and freed them from their charms.

"By the way, what happened with Holy Knights order? What happened with Captain Claudia?" I asked.

"I'm sorry sir, but I also don't know."

"What about you, do you have something?" I asked the other knight, but they just shook their heads.

Afterward, I was no longer care about them. Judging from how chaos spread within this fort, either Claudia was incapable or she was in a trouble.

Also, this chaos was impossible to be an accident, perhaps Grave realized their plan was fucked, and his identity was in danger, thus he decided to take the matters with his own hand.

But why causing this mess? What was Grave's goal?

"Where is Grave Levantine's house? Point me the direction."

After a couple of minutes, I arrived in front of a two-story house, there was only a man inside.

He had gray hair and a mustache with no beard, adorning oval eyeglasses. He put on an attire that consisted of silver shoe leggings with gold designs, and a deep red and purple coat, also with gold ornaments, and white elbow-length gloves.

"Who are you?" the man said with wariness, naturally thinking ill of me.

"Are you Klaus? Claudia's husband?"

"Y-yes."

"Do you know where your father is?"

"He went to see Claudia after she didn't show up for dinner."

Really? Could it be Claudia was harmed by him at this moment? Although Claudia wasn't a helpless fawn, she definitely had no guard against him, unless she had discovered him as one of the traitors, just hope she wasn't being reckless.

"Show me your father's room! Your wife is in danger!"

"C-Claudia? What do you mean? W-what is going to happen with her?"

"Do you love your wife?"

"I do!"

"Then stop wasting time!"

Klaus noticed the urgency in my tone, not to mention the hectic situation outside, he led me straight to Grave's room.

It was a cozy one, on the side was a fireplace with two red couches above the brown-colored carpet in front of it. A wooden small table was between the couches. On the left side was a brownish desk with a shelf behind it, and at the end of the room, there was a twin-sized bed.

I approached the shelf and opened it, seeing many books lined in a row.

I grabbed one and used the 'where' spell. An image popped inside my mind, seeing an old man, maybe still about in his 50s, rode a horse and galloped on the forest's path. There was a body of a beauty laid on his laps.

'Where the hell he would take Claudia?' I turned to Klaus and inquired about Grave's destination.

"My father has a mansion in the town nearest Geofu, but... why would he go there in this kind of situation?"

"Have you been to that mansion?"

"Y-yes, a couple of times."

"Then you will take me there, your father is the key to solve this chaos."

"Why? Why does my father have anything to do with this?"

"Volt is secretly planned to take control the Black Citadel and the savage race, afterward, he will take advantage of such power to conquer the entire Eos, the south, the west, and the east. Your father is working together with him."

"My father is a traitor?!" Klaus was shocked.

"That sums it up," I nodded.

"That can't be true!"

"You can ask the man himself."

"And he creates this chaos?"

"Probably, but I have good faith."

Klaus frowned, biting his thumb as he was trembling, then he shook his head, said, "No, I don't believe you, my father is a war hero, there is no way he'll betray the Church, Goddess Celestine, and us."

"Maybe he's doing it to protect you and Claudia, but he probably doesn't know I have defeated Vault, so when his identity as a traitor will be discovered, he fled."

"That... that makes sense... you say you have defeated Vault? Then... then, we should tell Father!"

"Yup," I gave him a bit of a smile, naturally I just told him what he wanted to hear, so he would cooperate. While it was possible Grave turned against Celestine with such intention, but I doubt it would be that simple.
