Kapitel 18: Camp and Sparring

On our journey to the elven kingdom, because the dwarves lived below it, we had a few pretty enlightening camps.

The awkward silence from before, which was made by distrust on human side, was lifted after the exchange today. Many of them now understand at least one side of each other - competitive feelings. With that, they have something to talk about.

We sat around a large campfire, making stew, talking - while the fire was crackling was a very calm situation. Before, Reinhard was very distrustful and often made his anger be heard in form of volume. He didn't even trust us enough to tell his name, leading to many other humans unwilling to tell their names.

The elves thought it was a human standard not to tell their names and copied it. Rhage, who was taught by Wert understood and told me his. On that day, we had much to learn.

First, don't let any soldier make stew. Never. The cooking level he had was the same the fire had. He made the food eatable, but also burned it to degrees of coalblack stew.

How does stew even burn that bad?!

Secondly, we had quite some names to learn. The three different elven generals told their names, Rhage repeated his aswell. The serene Rhage, with his bright blond hair and his black eyes might look weird, but is actually pretty normal. In contrary, his younger brother Servve was named by the queen aswell. His name might by close to serve, but again the queens odd taste kicked in.

He was probably the most rebellious guy here.

His red hair, sparkling violet eyes and his strong build already made him look like it, but his constant asking for sparrings also did their part. We didn't get to see him fight yet, but to give a rebellious guy the title of general was probably due to immense tactical and physical skill.

The third in bound, Lyght was not given by the queen, but once again was opposite of his name. His black hair, black eyes and dark skin got the humans scared quite some times. This night only around five times, because they just don't see him. I think stealthy tactics might be his job.

Looking at their introductions, the elven army seems pretty well organized for only three leaders. One calm and prepared guy, planning ressources, allocating fights and controlling his brothers, one to charge in frontally and one to steal or kill the objective inmidst the action.

Humans had a fairly easy to understand strategy. Reduce their numbers on range then engage. I have no idea why 12 generals were needed. That's why the elves decided to make one of them their representative. Reinhard wasn't even nominated, out of obvious reasons.

The one who got the job was... me. At first. I told about my low experience and they gave my brother a place in leadership aswell. Nepotism seems to be a thing here, only siblings in higher positions after all.

As a festival of union, between humans and elves we made a small tournament. Every healthy fighter was allowed to join, but aside from the generals there were only five fighters.

The first fight was between Rhage and Christian. It was quick, but very skilled and close, was what I thought after Rhage countered Christians spell and hit him on the back of his knee. My idol seems to have weakened.

I am up next against Farilance. He was an elven spear fighter. He was tall, but not muscular. Brown hair and small ears. Looks very near to humans actually.

I summon the Sword of Balance. It was a sword I learned of by Lyght, boosting all of my stats a bit and not having any effects. I can summon it conditionless, which makes it my only reliable weapon yet.

Farilance stabs in the air in front of me, right as the fight starts. It was a very quick movement, unable to block it I dodge, and jab it up with my hand. I swing my sword at his stomach but miss, as Farilance jumped vertically and threw his spear. My reaction was only fast enough because of my days at hunting birds in the village.

I catch it, turn it around so the spike is up, then throw it back and engage. He surrendered on point of landing. It was clear that we neither used full strength, but we still got admiring looks.

Hehe, an honor to serve your eyes people.

The other fights were more or less onesideded, generals win, soldiers lose. As only generals were standing in, excitement hits me. Acceleration of Excitement, a dagger appears.

I look at Rhage, he nods and calls out:" Full skills allowed now. Give it your all"

Christian was my opponent next. Finally, my time to win has come.

The fight starts, as I immediately sprint towards him. My speed surprises him and he trips. Running around him, catching him, then picking him back up was my way to react.

I want a real fight. The next time he parries my attack, the next one and a few ones after. Even though he does get favourable positions I was too fast for him to use them.

My attacks were a neverending stream of metal. A spot of his defense is entirely open after some time. His right side, he doesn't get his sword back there in time. I give me a speed boost by sliding on the ground and jab my elbow in said spot.

First one to hit with occasion to kill wins, so I won. I could've smashed his stomach easily and the other ones knew.

Rhage beats Lyght. Well, direct combat is very hard to get used to. Especially, if your skill in ambush is high enough to not get into any such situations. Rhage, Servve and I am up. This doesn't work at all.

The father of my older brother was the solution. I was still unsure if I was his child or not, but the elder was a good father. He picked up a greatsword and got onto the stage to fight Servve first.
