Kapitel 2: A Fleeting Light

When Mei Ting passed out under the emotional exhaustion, the hooded man stilled.

His pupils contracted like a pulse as he breathed in the small girl's appetizing scent.

The anticipation to taste her flesh clawed like a building fire from the bottom of his throat, agitating his body which burned his insides with animalistic desperation to kill, slaughter, and eat.

It was more than hunger. It was a need - like how one needs to breathe, or how a heart needs to beat to survive.

It was a purely subconscious matter. And without blood, flesh, or even bone, he could suffocate under the force of the dwelling beast within.

Just as the man began to slip into the vast darkness of nevermore, an enchanting voice infiltrated through the gaps of his mind.

For a moment, he stopped completely without moving.

All the veins in his body strained under an invisible pressure and the feral urge in his eyes intensified with an obvious bloodlust.

His protruding canines gnashed agonizingly into his gums as he exhaled sharply against the girls delicate neck.

After a few moments his red eyes dimmed and gradually returned to it's delirious amber hue.

It's hard to say how the little sheep managed to cheat death...

He wordlessly lift her into his arms and away from the reckless havoc of the prison chamber.

Perhaps it was because he let her.

...

"Mie Mie..."

A soothing, sultry low voice urged Mei Ting awake, her eyes shifting in a disoriented manner before opening to an unfamiliar setting.

She looked out the sheer curtains of the room with eyes the size of disks. The sun had already set but the light of a crescent moon and the glow of the sky seeped like meteorite onto her pale skin.

However, the tug in her heart was quickly overshadowed.

In the far corner of the exquisite room was a tall figure bathed in the shadow of the lampshade.

Her breath hitched as she looked at him, without really looking. A collage of images suddenly overthrew her previously collected thoughts, a slideshow of blood red eyes and a mouth full of overly sharp teeth disrupting her heart pattern.

"You've been asleep since yesterday morning." The man's golden eyes gleamed like sunlight on polished stone, surpassing the darkness which came like thick velvet curtains at an empty theater house.

She gazed perplexedly at the man in the shadows with a wary thousand-yard stare. Her mind reeled as the terrifying face of the monster she thought she had saw faded with her sense to reason coherently.

Was it all just her imagination?...

Mei Ting slowly glanced at the space around her. It was then she noticed the large vanity opposite her that held the image of a young girl with dark circles cast beneath bleak luminous orbs. Her eyes were a dim light brown, so light that they emanated a pair of honey drops. The dainty lips of the girl in the mirror was currently regaining its former color, but her face was overall too fair and void of life to call beautiful.

At this moment, she realized that she wasn't wearing the usual rags that wrapped protectively around her body. Instead, it was a gown.

She traced the soft, satiny fabric of the ivory dress with a finger, confusion laced beneath the rim of her lashes. It was very loose, and slipped onto her shoulders, deftly skimming her skin with kisses.

Her brow creased as she remembered the hidden presence in the room.

Slowly, she peeped back at the unusually silent man watching her.

"You're a pretty little sheep, aren't you?" His eyes blinked like shimmering star dust. "With a face like that... who would ever think you could sin."

"Pretty?" She sent a quick glance at her reflection and pursed her lips before turning back to him with a pleading look. "Where am I? I want to go home -"

"Is that right?" His eyes laughed at her.

The man maneuvered out of the shadows, this time his face was covered with a black surgical mask. Her eyes immediately caught sight of the metal bound collar tightened on his neck, blinking with a tiny red dot. He advanced toward her, his expression as inconspicuous as the calm before a storm.

He was slow in movement and she was paralyzed with an all consuming fear that left her limbs numb with forewarning. Once he stood in front of her, like a wolf in disguise, Mei Ting pushed at his chest and was roughly pressed onto the bed with her breathing coming out like a pause in the silence.

All she could see were his eyes, and if she stared too long she felt like she could be burned.

He studied her before lowering to her mouth and soon she noticed he was moving closer and closer until the mask pressed gently against her lips.

She breathed in unsteadily, frozen as his eyes continued to bore into hers, filled with a hidden look of contempt.

She suppressed the need to scream, grinding her teeth together as his knee pushed explicitly between her long legs.

"You have no home. Not anymore" He slipped his fingers to twine around her wrist, the other tilting her chin upward. "You're simply too unenlightened to notice." His obsidian hair fell in tousled locks, tickling her cheek as he leaned closer to whisper in her ear.

"But I, a lowly slave, am willing to lay my life to save you. I can take you away and dispel that sweet ignorance you have with one condition..."

"Condition?" She asked warily. He paused and leisurely grinned a bitter smile.

"A kiss." He mumbled. "It's the most predictable reward from a little sheep like you."

Holding her breath. Slowly, she unwaveringly said, "Then you don't need to save me..."
