Kapitel 46: Let Her Go
That night, her guards Hua Xu and Li Ping secretly made an appearance to her room. Da Ying was sitting at the table with no emotions in her eyes. She had been waiting for them.
They both bowed and greeted her. She simply nodded her head and asked them for the update. The two immediately started explaining the situation they were tasked to do.
She was not surprised by the news. For someone like General Ming, it was not hard to predict he would betray his country. He really had the guts, Da Ying thought. To think General Ming was actually colluding with the neighboring Kingdom of Li.
She furrowed her brows and a hint of killing instinct overfilled her. Did he think he could frame her brother for treason? She wanted to laugh when she heard the report.
After taking a sip of tea, she spoke. "Whoever dares to touch my brother Prince Mu Yan will need to go through me first." A haughty smirk appeared. Someone like General Ming dared to go against her, she wanted to laugh once again.
"Continue to follow his messenger. Don't alarm them. If anything goes wrong, report to me immediately."
They both nodded before leaving.
Before the sun had rose, Da Ying was already up. She got ready for another days journey. As she was making her way down the steps, she was met with both Xi Feng and Xie De waiting at the bottom of the stairs.
The moment she made it down, she smiled at Xi Feng. "Morning."
"Good morning your highness." He replied back.
Da Ying looked at Xie De and rolled her eyes before making her way over to the dining table.
Xie De immediately went over to pull a chair for her.
Da Ying pretended as if she didn't see it and sat at the opposite seat. He shrugged her cold attitude away. "Did your highness have a good night's sleep?" Xie De asked.
"Of course not." She quickly replied before completely ignoring him.
Turning on her sweet personality, she turned to her right. She tried to make eye contact with Xi Feng but he dared not look up. She continued to complain cutely. "Do you see the dark circles under my eyes?" She pointed out. "I couldn't sleep well due to the storm last night." She reached forward and put her hand on his arm gently. "I wanted to seek your company until the storm went away but dared not bother you." She softly told him.
Xi Feng slightly patted her hand. "Your highness, you don't have to feel bad. You are no bother. After all, I am here to protect you. If you need me to accompany you, don't be afraid to ask next time. If anything, I can always call Ban Shiang and Bai Zhi."
Her maids quickly agreed with Xi Feng.
*Ahem*
Xie De cleared his throat loudly. "Let's get going." He demanded as he stood up to leave first.
The couple of hours on the road went by silently. Da Ying did not ask to rest and stayed in her carriage. And the annoyed Xie De was not in the mood to talk to Xi Feng.
Finally after another hour, they made a stop to rest near a river. Da Ying grabbed a water jug from Ban Shiang and walked towards Xi Feng happily. He was quietly resting under a shade tree with his eyes closed.
Xie De wanted to go stop her but Bai Zhi and Ban Shiang both blocked him. "Duke of Lan." They both bowed. "Her highness has asked that you do not block her attempt from getting to know Lord Feng. Since you and her highness do not walk the same path, why must you obstruct her?" Bai Zhi asked.
"Even if we do not walk the same path, it does not mean we will not meet at an intersection. I believe I am right for her. Not Xi Feng." He told her.
But both maids did not budge.
"Please excuse this maid from speaking her mind but what you may want may not be what her highness wants. Can't you see that she is in love with Lord Xi Feng? If you love her, you would clear a path for her." Ban Shiang added.
He looked in the distance as he watched his friend take the jug from the woman he loved. Suddenly his eyes looked like they had lost all hope.
Then he turned and walked away.
Bai Zhi and Ban Shiang could not help but secretly pity both their lady and the Duke of Lan. They've been with her highness for so long. If they didn't know how she felt, then they truly did not deserve to be with her.
Upon hearing footsteps, Xi Feng woke up. "Can I sit?" She asked shyly.
Xi Feng quickly scooted and made room for her. She elegantly sat down and passed him the jug. Then she reached in her sleeve to pull a pink handkerchief. Before Xi Feng could figure out what she was doing, she reached out and the silky cloth made contact with his forehead. He immediately grabbed her wrist. "Your highness, what are you doing…"
