Kapitel 22: A Different Swan

Finally, she had asked the question that had been on the three girl's minds.

Veronica tensed lightly as she waited for the answer while Amber just turned her head over slightly towards Ms. Catherine.

Ms. Catherine was taken by surprise before she turned to their manager with an inquiring gaze.

"I thought it would be better for her to hear the details from you herself" Ms. Sofia calmly responded to her gaze.

"I see, well that is fine too. Nicole, simply put, your performance was stunning, to say the least, thus, initially, we were all in favor of giving you the role..." Nicole nodded in response to Ms. Catherine's statement. She expected as much when she saw the judges reactions, so what happened after that?

Ms. Catherine continued, "But..." as she heard this Nicole's eyes narrowed while Veronica perked up in response, "the director said the role was not suitable for you." As she said this Ms. Catherine sounded a little helpless, and her tone was even somewhat resigned.

Nicole blinked at a loss as she heard the response; the role was not suitable for her?

Ms. Catherine smiled helplessly in response to Nicole's gaze, "Indeed your performance was spectacular but the director disagreed with giving you the role, he said it was not compatible with you."

"I see, not compatible huh?" Nicole said with her head lowered. Anyone who saw her would like that would think she was dejected, but Nicole was actually just trying to process the information she was given.

From what she understood about the role, she had thought she brought out the character perfectly. She should have been a living image of the black swan!

For the director to say she was not compatible, it seems like she still had a lot of work to do if she wants to achieve something more significant.

Just as Ms. Catherine was about to comfort Nicole, she suddenly raised her head her eyes shining with new found enthusiasm.

Ms. Catherine couldn't help but be impressed; someone who can so easily bounce back from a setback would definitely go far. Only by looking forward can someone move to greater heights.

As she was thinking this, Nicole opened her mouth and continued, "I don't understand why I am here then, I couldn't properly portray the character so, I failed the audition, didn't I?"

Ms. Catherine smiled in response to this, "Indeed, you weren't chosen for the role as the black swan-"

"Then-"

"But that was only because the director decided he had a better role in mind for you."

"Wait, you mean..."

"That's right the director is editing the script because of you. He said your acting inspired him to create a new character in the story, a third swan."

As she said this the girls were astounded; to think the director would change the script for an actor, more so a child actor at that.

Veronica felt herself bursting with jealousy as she tried maintaining her smile that was somewhat stiff now. Amber, on the other hand, was looking at Nicole with fervor, she seemed to have found her rival and goal in Nicole.

Nicole took a little while to adjust to the information.

To say she wasn't affected by her failure to secure the role would be deceiving herself. The fact that she lost with all her years of experience was a severe blow to her.

Though her memories and body hadn't fully assimilated yet, she should have at least been able to pull off a performance that would have left those new to the entertainment industry in her dust.

Still, she found solace when she looked back on her performance, though at the beginning her performance was lackluster Nicole felt she had more than made up for it. Since she put in her best and was satisfied, she didn't mind not getting the role as much.

Even some great artists fail auditions because they were not compatible with the character. She wasn't perfect; if the role was not compatible with her, she would find another and forge a path that way.

Still, knowing that her first step wasn't a failure was also a big help.

Finally, Nicole said, "Thank you for your trust, I won't disappoint you."

"I expect as much, I look forward to your performance, all of your performances actually." Ms. Catherine replied with a smile.

After which there was a knock on the door, a staff entered to tell them that they were ready to start the audition.

Nicole and the others bid Ms. Catherine farewell before following the staff towards the set.

As soon as they arrived another staff came and said the director wanted to meet them. Everyone was surprised about this even Nicole.

The director had always remained a mystery, from what Nicole remembered even during the production in her last life the director didn't participate.

Only the final products were sent to him for confirmation and nothing else. Thus this director had always remained a mystery. Even later in life when he became hugely successful, not many knew his identity.

So why did he suddenly want to meet them all of a sudden?
