9.36% To Be a Demon Prince / Chapter 46: Code Pink

Kapitel 46: Code Pink

Despite the rough night concerning Rebecca's attack, nothing else happened. The morning light had pierced into the day, and the two pseudo-agents had gone to visit Randy Connor's twin brother in the hospital. It would be vital to find anyone who would attempt to wake him up.

Noah roamed the hospital in the disguise of a doctor to freely come see the patient while Luca was in civilian wear to monitor the crowd. The hellhounds had also scattered all around the place to detect a witch if ever they decided to kick up a mess in the hospital.

When they do, Noah would have to contain the situation fast… after calling for backup.

The witch stood next to the patient who was lying motionless on his bed. Not-Randy's mind had already shut down, and he was like a vegetable for life. No matter what happened, he would never wake up… unless a high-level demon would intervene.

How small was Not-Randy to the witches of Mammon as he claimed to be part of? Clearly, probably just minuscule as his handler didn't even bother to intercept Noah and Luca during their mission.

"Hello?" A voice came from the door, and Noah looked over his shoulder to find a young woman entering the room. She then smiled at him. "Hello, doctor. Is he well?"

Noah stared at the woman and failed to answer readily. It wasn't because of her exquisite face or that bodycon dress that showed off her shape. It wasn't because of the plunging neckline that showed her entire cleavage under sheer fabric either.

It was because she was this super-popular employee in their company, Melody.

Melody was from the Sales Department and was one of those women every male in the company wanted to date. It wasn't true for Montana, but he was forced to like her as every male who didn't find her a dream material was being questioned thoroughly. Her face wasn't easy to forget, as much as those big gray eyes that she had.

"Doctor?"

"I'm sorry. I only felt like this man is so lonely so I'm offering him company in my free time." Noah did a professional smile, taking the excuse out of the spotlight. He then moved away from the patient and let the maiden take the man's hand into hers. "Is he your father?"

"Father?" The maiden blushed a little—with a hint of panic—and then eyed at the handsome doctor before nodding forcibly. "Yes, he's my father. Though he lived with another family now. Uhm… sorry, my eyes are not that good."

She made use of an excuse to actually get close to the doctor after putting the man's hand down. She hooked her hair behind her ear and bent down a little to see the name badge even if it was easy to read.

As she did so, the neckline plunged lower, showing off the once-covered skin under the sheer. Even the tips were visible from the angle he could look down her neckline.

Noah's eye twitched out of sight. He didn't really know this woman, but her actions seemed to be very inappropriate. Was she not afraid of being kicked out of the hospital?

"Doctor Jules… Doctor Jules, thank you for giving time with my father." Melody straightened her back and blushed a little as if aware of what she did. She hooked her hair behind her ear again. "Will you be staying long?"

"Do you need my company?" A smile remained on his lips, but his eyes were sending electricity to the woman as if answering her advancement. To be honest, the reason why he's willing to stay was to deflect attention.

If he stayed there chatting with someone, the nurses wouldn't make much out of it. If he stayed alone, they would engage in a conversation with him.

The woman sat on the couch, and Noah was left with no choice but to join her. The woman began talking as if she was a very pitiful thing, but Noah was reading into her narratives differently.

Well, she might not be Not-Randy's daughter, but she called him 'Daddy'.

"Bitch! Who told you to go here?!" A booming voice entered the room, and it wasn't like Noah missed out on her hurried footsteps.

A middle-aged lady had pushed the door open and glared at the woman and the doctor. Seeing that a doctor was in the room, she didn't explode readily. "You. Get out."

"…Okay." Melody got up and held her bag to her chest when she walked past the lady. She was scared that the lady would explode some more if she saw the neckline.

"Doctor, please don't let her inside the ward. That woman must have poisoned him…" The middle-aged lady huffed before casting a gaze at the man on the bed.

She didn't flaunt her wealth like most rich women did, but she was clad in designers from her hair clip to her dress, her accessories, and even her shoes.

Her shoulders dropped as she moved to the side of the bed and sat on the chair. "Oh, Randy… what happened to you?"

Noah got up from the couch and walked to the old lady's side. "Mrs. Connor, the diagnosis for him was stroke. He's currently in comatose."

Mrs. Connor was someone even Montana would know. She was in a happy marriage even with a stern and cold man like Randy Connor. However, the situation earlier felt like he had filed for divorce and was wallowing in young women while the loyal wife was being conned by a fraud.

"Comatose? He just woke up from one…" Mrs. Connor shed some tears as she remembered her husband's state a year ago. "How could someone fall to comatose again?"

Noah didn't answer her. The two people in her mind weren't the same, but Noah didn't have the proof to show. He pitied people like Mrs. Connor and despised Not-Randy some more.

At this scene, he decided to excuse himself while the wife watched over the man.

The steps on the hallway resounded as nurses walked and jogged along the path. Some visitors were also taking their time to walk around the hallway as well. Noah wasn't any different. A hellhound came to watch over the room as the wife stayed, and so Noah had the time to squander.

As he loitered on the floor, his pager—that came with the disguise—sounded: "Code Pink, I repeat, we have a Code Pink!"

Noah could have studied a lot for his assassin job, but he didn't know what Code Pink was. He could only pretend to walk around and sense everyone on the floor. In his stumbling attempt to blend in, he noticed a woman who was walking hurriedly with a big tote bag on her shoulder.

It didn't help that her heartbeat was rapid as if she was anxious. Moreover, when she caught sight of Noah, she hurriedly turned away and started walking faster.

Noah only took note of her appearance. Her hair was short and curled, and she was wearing a generic white dress which gave her a silhouette of a nurse.

The witch followed her to a corner before he decided to drop it.

He then grew curious about where the woman came from. Retracing her steps, Noah arrived at a corner where a nurse almost collided against him. She then gasped, "Doctor! I'm so sorry!"

"It's okay—"

"Did you see a suspicious person pass by?" The nurse tried to look past Noah's shoulder, but she was too short to do so. "A baby is taken. We need to find whoever took her!"

Noah twitched. The Code Pink was for the abducted child? If the nurse came from where the woman was, then the woman should be the abductor.

He didn't even spend time chatting with the nurse as he bolted to the direction the suspicious woman took. He also directed some hellhounds to track the woman he found.

When he got to the corner, he tried to track the faint smell the woman had. It was probably from the NICU itself.

To take someone else's baby was a crime itself; to put one inside a tote bag was a warrant to be eaten by hellhounds.

He didn't know if he was just playing his role well, but he felt like he was overreacting to a call only professionals should answer. He wouldn't normally engage in such things… but that was when he was incompetent.

Now that he was capable of doing things, he was a little motivated to do them.

He even dragged Luca into it. The hunter also dropped his post in search of the baby abductor. Even the other SCC agents on standby roamed their eyes to find the woman Noah described.

Soon, one of them spotted the lady and alerted the others.

Noah reached the woman first… jumping from the veranda and landing in front of her. She was startled, but she only held onto the tote bag's handles tightly. When she tried to retrace her steps, Luca and two more people stopped her from behind.

The doctor-in-appearance reached out his hand. "Give her to me."

Noah frowned. Caliga confirmed that a human was in her bag, and so he just wanted her not to do anything bad to the child.

"I'm sorry. I can't. My family will die. Please just let me go." The woman tried to plead while being on guard against all sides.

"So you want someone else's family to die?" Luca stepped closer to pressure the woman, but she turned around and suddenly produced a small knife hidden inside a pen. "It's either theirs or mine! I'm not willing to see my family die!"

Snap! The tote bag's handles broke from behind her as Caliga snagged it with a claw. Noah caught the bag and made sure the baby was safely sleeping inside while gaining distance from the woman.

He then fished out a small instrument tucked inside the baby's swaddle. It was like a thin wooden stick with a few markings on it.

He broke it into two, and then the baby began to open her eyes. Upon seeing a stranger, she started to cry and alerted the nearby guards who also heard the code call.

"Stop right there!"
