Kapitel 19: I Just Felt Like It

After a good night's sleep, Linri felt invigorated. When he went to take a shower he saw that his face really had healed. He never doubted Lyra's words, but still seeing it first hand reminded him again that this was not his world. Linri's will to get stronger rose by a notch.

Once he was done with his shower Linri went down to the kitchen for breakfast. His father and mother were sitting across each other and Jaime was not there yet. Linri sat beside his father. He did not know if Jaime would hit him again but it wouldn't hurt to be safe right?

While Linri was eating his toast with Marmite Linri saw Jaime sitting down while yawning.

"Oh yeah, Dad."

"Hm?"

"Today I have to visit a friend with Jaime. Is it alright if we postpone the training after we return? I don't really wanna go there covered in sweat" asked Linri.

He knew that Arkady would not mind if he went even without asking him but he just asked out of formality.

"Yeah sure suit yourself." said Arkady nonchalantly.

So as soon as they were done eating Jaime and Linri left the house and got on the subway.

"By the way, you know how to act right?" asked Linri to Jaime standing next to him.

"What do you mean 'act'"

"You know. We are going to meet with Brie. She was very close to Jaime and in other words to 'you'. If you were to act like your usual self our cover would be blown and it would be hard to explain. We also have to decide on a cover story for your absence, in other words, the danger I told Brie about"

"Huh, fooling Brie will be a piece cake you don't need to worry about that." said Jaime confidently.

"Oh, is that so? Come then hit me with your best 'Jaime' impression then Ms Spark" said Linri sarcastically. It was obvious that he was not really taking her seriously.

Jaime gave a death stare to Linri. These two days she got really annoyed with him which surprised herself since she was very hard to annoy. She also tried to get along with everyone.

"Wow, you got Jaime's stare down. Now let's hear the impression"

"You know that if you continue to act like this you will return home in a wheelchair right?" said Jaime coldly.

"Hm, nice joke but maybe something a little less threatening?"

"Who said I was joking?" Jaime continued to give Linri the death stare and said coldly.

Linri was startled. Didn't she say that she accepted his apology? Were they still on bad terms? Now Linri was questioning himself if she would really beat him up. She had higher attributes and he didn't have his ability yet. If she tries to act he was screwed. Linri thought maybe staying silent wasn't such a bad idea at all.

While Linri was thinking how to save his skin he heard a snicker right next to him.

"See, I told you that I could do it." said Jaime with a smug smile on her face.

She had really enjoyed messing Linri. It was such a fulfilling feeling to see the fear in his eyes. Now she kinda understood why Linri keeps messing with her. It was actually such a fun experience. Maybe she should mess with him more often. He should not be able to do anything, at least until he met the gods.

Seeing Jaime's smug look Linri sighed in relief.

"Wait? How did you act so natural? Unless you were not a top-notch actress before coming here, and I know you were not, you shouldn't be able to that convincing right? Don't tell me you were really planning to beat me up?"

"Who knows? Keep guessing!" said Jaime but Linri felt even more worried. He couldn't help but think about the worst case scenario. He normally wouldn't suspect Jaime but the punch he suffered was still relatively fresh. When he thought about the punch, he could still remember that instant flash of pain.

"This is our stop." said Linri and got out the subway with Jaime. while walking towards to orphanage Linri brought up the cover-up story issue again.

"So here is the deal. I am an informant working you on Brie's brother's case. I found the info but couldn't contact you so I panicked and reached out to Brie. What's next. Jaime is your character you know her the best. So what might keep Jaime from coming to meet up with me?" asked Linri

"Well, Jaime is a Private Investigator so if she could not contact you that would mean A - she was in a place where phones were jammed or there wasn't service. B- she was working on a case and contacting you blow her cover so her phone was probably off? C- she was being pursued by someone so she threw her phone away to avoid being tracked."

"B it is then. Don't forget to tell her that her brother is indeed at Autumnfall. We need her to come with us to raise our strength."

"Do we have to? We don't really need to put her in a dangerous position by taking her to Autumnfall right?" asked Jaime worriedly.

Linri was startled.

"What do you mean why? I don't have my abilities and its still a big if whether I can get them. After all, I am not the original Linri. You also don't know how to fight. Even if you learn something from the book it wouldn't be much. So we need a bodyguard. A meat shield if you wish to call it that way. So we don't really have much of a choice."

Jaime punched Linri in the head again.

"Why?" asked Linri with tearful eyes.

"I just felt like it"
