Kapitel 18: The Argument

After the training Linri eat dinner like it was his final meal. After the dinner, his mother brewed him some tea and after drinking that he felt more relaxed and his mental exhaustion was gone. Linri suspected that Lyra had done something magical to the tea but he did not question it. She also spread some kind of ointment on his face and told him that his face should recover by tomorrow. Linri was elated as that would mean he could go out again without bringing any attention to himself.

After he was done he went upstairs to his room and Jaime followed behind him. Linri checked his account to see if there were any messages from Silfy. Indeed there was one. She had messaged him to tell him his order was accepted and asked him about his sizes and the place of delivery. Now, this was a hard question to answer. The gauntlet would probably be confiscated at the airport once he goes to Autumnfall High school so he had to ask her to deliver it to Hanawa, the counterpart of Japan in this world. Since he could not find an answer now he decided to leave this trouble to his future self to solve.

Once Linri turned back he saw that Jaime was lying on his bead with her feet touching the ground and looking at the ceiling. So Linri did the same. Though after what happened this morning he did not dare to lie beside her. Who knows when this unreasonable might rage again.

"So what's on your mind?" asked Linri while also looking at the ceiling.

"I don't know. Everything feels so surreal. How can you stay so calm?" Jaime asked and turned her head towards Linri. She started to examine his facial futures but she could tell that there was not even a hint of worry in his expression. Linri faced towards her and they locked eyes.

"Me? It's easy actually. Some might say it's a bad habit but I have this quirk. If I can not do anything about something I just leave it to my future self to figure out. Since I can't do anything right now why should I worry and wreck my head about it? In order to deal with a problem you first have to have enough capital for it. The capital in this situation is 'strength'. So until I become strong enough I will not worry. Because I don't even have the qualifications to worry." said Linri seriously. Right now he did not have a shred of his usual sarcasm he had when talking to Jaime.

Jaime was affected by his words. They were logical. In fact, some might even say they were too logical. She was yet again astounded by the thinking process of the guy lying next to him. In these two days, he surprised her more than she was her whole life. She felt safe next to him. It felt like no matter what kind of problem he might face he could always find a solution to it. Still, she could tell that this was only a false belief. There was no way that he could survive each and every situation. When thinking she also thought that he might be more suitable to live in this world than the other one. It felt like he was fish that just returned to the water and started to swim furiously.

Seeing her silence Linri did not bother her and dived into his thoughts. He reviewed what happened in these two days and remembered something.

"Oh yeah. Now that I think about it did Brie contact you? I got your information from her. I also lied to her saying you might be in a dangerous situation to make her give the address."

Jaime took out her phone from the pocket of her hoodie and there was not any missing calls or a message. She checked her contacts to find Brie but couldn't find her.

"No. I don't even have her phone number. Weird?" said Jaime and looked him with questioning eyes.

"Well. She was staying in an orphanage so no phone maybe?"

"Still we should go up and check up on her. I don't want her to be worried." said Jaime.

"Wait why? Isn't she 'unrelated' to you. Why should you consider her feelings?" asked Linri

Jaime could tell what he meant by 'unrelated' but she didn't want to answer him so she just got up from the bed.

"We should go to where she stays. You know the address right? We can leave after breakfast"

"Oh don't tell me it's a date?" said Linri teasingly.

Jaime immediately froze on the spot. 2 teenagers 1 boy 1 girl going somewhere together. Isn't that a crude description of a date? She was about to blush again but remembered what happened in the morning.

"Don't ever joke like that with me again!" said Jaime and turned to leave the room.

Linri could tell something was wrong and something inside him told him that if he were to let her go out their friendship might be left with unrepairable cracks. So he got up and caught her arm.

"What do you mean? Don't leave after dropping a bombshell like that" said Linri demandingly.

"Now you care?? You shouldn't have played with a lady's feelings even as a joke. Where do you even get that audacity" Jaime burst against Linri.

Linri was scared. It was such a simple joke. When did it turn so serious? Linri did not know what to say but unless he figures out what was wrong this was going to result seriously. He did not know where he did go wrong and that was where the problem lay. So the best to do was explaining everything to clear up whatever kinda misunderstanding this was. Linri made a hush gesture towards Jaime and pointed at his phone.

Without waiting for Jaime's reply he furiously started to type into his phone everything he said to Jaime till morning to now and why he said it and what he meant by them. He was not sure if he got everything but this was the best he could do. If the source of the problem was not here there was nothing else he could do. He handed her to phone and waited for her to read it.

Jaime started to read what Linri wrote. It started with an apology and told her that he didn't know what he had done. He wrote that it might be some kind of misunderstanding since he himself would know when to stop. Jaime almost wanted to smash the phone to the ground but still controlled her anger. He next wrote that if it was something he said it was unintentional and wrote what he meant by what he said.

She found the part where he said he wouldn't date her as it seriously hurt her pride. Reading the explanation it was almost as if a cold bucket of water poured on her. He wrote that just because they dated in the game they did not have to do that here and they did not have any obligations towards each other and he would not want to force her something she did not just because they were messing around in a game. Since they were banned to talk about Autumnfall he could not say that and he honestly thought Jaime could understand it.

When he read that Jaime was relieved but ashamed at the same time for jumping into a conclusion so quickly. Still, she was not going to say sorry. Women were just unreasonable sometimes. She handed the phone to Linri.

He was extremely nervous but saw that at least her anger had subsided.

"I accept your apology but that's about it" and she left the room. This time Linri did not stop her. He was still wondering if the problem was solved but his instincts did not point to any danger. So everything should be fine right?
