Entsy's legs now had small rivulets of blood dripping onto the ground. When asked, he simply said that he was fine.
Marveling at this man's self-control, the team headed back towards the room with the Grey.
They chose to exit together.
The passageway was steep, directly leading towards another block of rock just like the first one. Thankfully, it opened with the same code as before.
Lance first went out to check if the coast was clear. Darius would stick out like a sore thumb, so he wasn't sent although he volunteered to go. The shields on his back were too eye-catching.
The coast was actually clear. The whole team got into a better mood and chatted a little before running towards the exit point. Their tense nerves finally started relaxing.
The comets had vanished. Lance assumed that it was because the Grey died, but he still kept a cautious look out.
Soon, the exit point was in sight. It was a tent much like the one they had started this mission in.
Everything looked alright as the team ran forward, ready to get back to the station.
There were only a few feet to the tent.
"NOOOOOOOOOOOO!", came a scream from behind.
Yu Yan was trapped in a whirlpool in the sand. She was slowly sinking downward and countless hands of sand seemed to be grabbing her, not letting her move at all.
"Darius!", Lance screamed.
He knew what he had to do. Pointing his hands at the sand, Darius tried to control it like before. Only, there was no use.
"Its too strong! I can't wrestle away control of the sand!", he said, while Yu Ying ran to Yu Yan and held her.
Hands of sand appeared around her too as she started sinking along with Yu Ying. It seemed that anyone who tried to help would be dragged down too.
"Entsy, go to the tent. Deposit the items and immediately request for help. Me and Darius will try to get them out.", said Lance. Entsy nodded and immediately started running toward the tent.
Lance looked at Darius. Would he be OK with potentially being dragged down along with the other two? They could either save themselves or try to help the twins and die.
Lance had already made his choice. His team was his family. If he didn't even try to save them now, there was no way he would be able to live the rest of his life in peace.
Darius said nothing, and simply went to hold Yu Ying's hand. Try as he might, there was no use. He also started sinking down.
Lance had no idea what to do. He couldn't even use his wishroot as all of the stored energy was gone. Although he was ready to burn his flesh like before, he did not even know what wish to make. His master had told him that specific wishes would show results, not indirect ones.
Seeing his team sinking down, Lance ignored logic and went to pull Darius. He knew that he also might be dragged down, but there was no way he could ignore the situation, even if it was hopeless. All he could hope for was that depositing the items would result in instant teleportation.
There was no sound from the tent. The sand kept enveloping them, ignoring their efforts. Yu Yan was already under, only her hands visible struggling. Yu Ying and the rest looked into each other's eyes, and there was no regret in them. They were happy that they had completed the mission.
Darkness greeted their eyes as the sand swallowed them whole. The last thought in Lance's head was:
"I sure hope they tricked us again and this whole thing is virtual."
