Kapitel 651: Sleepover (7)

Once mealtime ended, I dashed to my usual bedroom. I didn't have a choice. I was Hansel and Gretel to them, the fairytale where gullible children were fed candy to get fattened up. I didn't want to get eaten by these psychotic criminals- I mean these crazy people.

I had to escape. My waterpark mansion wasn't worth suffering under the tutors more often. My fingers desperately tapped the screen for the windows to open, momentarily freezing in surprise when the device beeped. A blue light briefly flickered, activating the windows to slide open to let the fresh air come inside. This was a chance!

I pulled out a rope and anchored it to the bed frame. Taking the other end of the rope with me, my head peaked out the window to scan the mansion grounds.

A round barrier surrounded the gates, unhackable and more secure than prison. Meaning, they were impossible to destroy. And right below me, was the garden, sadly decorated like a labyrinth. That option was out since I didn't want to get lost. I needed to know where I was to move to a better hiding place in case these kidnappers were close to catching me.

However, I possessed the cave with me. It was the perfect hiding place. So taking a firm grip on the rope, I carefully placed my feet on the ridge of the window.

"Hahh," I took a deep breath.

The walls were flat, barely any bumps to safely place my feet. My back had to face the garden to move forward. I was going to fall if I didn't readjust my position. Wiping my forehead, I clenched my teeth as I tried to turn my body.

"They renovated their mansions on purpose," I mumbled.

My arms burned as they supported my entire weight. My legs trembled as they took small steps, hoping my feet wouldn't slip. Ugh! How much more to go? I turned my head, sighing in relief when I had one more floor to go.

At this rate, I could just jump down. A broken leg was nothing when my muscles felt like they were about to die. Plus, the area behind a row of tall hedges seemed to be an unnoticeable spot anyways. Win, win.

I closed my eyes and swung my legs towards the ground. The next second, my hand touched the soft grass, spiky enough to jolt my eyes open. It was unexpected. The hedges reached my shoulders, smaller than they seemed from above.

"You can't?" A voice came from behind.

"But you promised," Belle whined.

"My parents want me to look after my younger siblings today," Lucius sighed.

Crap. I should've known they were keeping track of their entire property. I immediately squatted and started to move as quietly as possible. Unfortunately, I needed another hiding place, maybe like that dense tunnel of flowers good for blocking someone's view. Wait. That was the perfect place!

'Bracelet appear. Respond to my calls,' I ran while chanting.

'Come on portal. Work for me! I don't have much time,' I huffed, looking around.

[Portal Activated. Opening Cave] A voice rang inside my head.

I grabbed my throbbing head as a large swirling hole appeared to reveal a rocky terrain. It was that cave!

I ran into the cold air, hit by a wall of fog when my feet stepped on rough gravel. I stepped back, momentarily flustered.

On one side, my head faced a wall full of dull crystals, resembling the color of a muddy puddle. It was the opposite to my right, a bright garden, shining light onto my sweaty face when it shouldn't be there.

I clenched my hands as I desperately wished to contract Micah. I tried to summon him, "Micah, why isn't this thing closing?"

[I spelled it to make it close after five minutes] A note drifted from another portal.

What a useless fairy! It was my fault for relying on him.

Clink clank.

Footsteps? My heart nearly stopped as sounds of elegant footsteps came closer. Three steps, maybe two? Belle's curious voice was around the corner of the tunnel, "did your grandmother design this garden?"

"You have a portal in your garden?" Belle gasped, stunned at the sight of the portal.

"We're not supposed to," Lucius protectively stopped her with his arm.

"Stay here," he held her shoulders.

"I'm going to get my grandfather to come," he turned to run.

Shit. My precious cave was a goner.
