The morning sunlight filtered through the translucent curtains as they swayed gently with the mild breeze.
Traces of last night's activity remained on both their skins, like poppies in the snow, they could be seen only on parts that the pure white comforter didn't cover.
Qiu Yue's head lay against Huo Zi Feng's chest, his arm on her waist. Her eyelashes fluttered as she slowly opened her eyes. Seeing Zi Feng's arm laying protectively around her waist she was struck by surprise. It was only now that the memories of last night replayed in her head as a bright red flush spread on her cheeks, but more than embarrassment, she couldn't stop her lips from lifting into a bright smile.
All this time, she never had had any sort of experience so she had never imagined that being with Zi Feng would give her so much happiness. Slowly placing his arm onto the bed, she looked around the room for a few seconds before finally spotting her bag.
She placed the ribbon tied box onto the side table next to Huo Zi Feng and turned to take a towel from the cupboard but before going into the washroom she couldn't help but turn to look at him again. As she stared at him it seemed like she was debating on something, finally giving up the hesitation she bent down and pressed her lips to his forehead in a soft kiss.
Qiu Yue's face lit up with the bright cute smile she had on, she really felt like dancing or singing. She couldn't contain her happiness, but she didn't want to disturb his sleep so she silently went to take a bath.
Huo Zi Feng finally woke up when Qiu Yue had gone down to get breakfast. He hadn't slept this comfortably in a long time, being next to Qiu Yue gave him a sense of belonging that he'd never felt till now.
But what was this?
On the side table next to him was a box. Pulling himself up with his arms he took the box in his hand, opening it curiously. Inside was a classic watch with a brown strap and metal body. He picked it up and something brushed against his fingers on the back, turning it he saw that the watch had an engraving.
"You mean everything"
His thumb brushed against the ridges of the engraved letters, the gaze in his eyes deepening. He knew it must have taken her ages to decide on everything. What to give, what type of watch it should've been, and more importantly, what to say. He could imagine her thinking of the things she always wanted him to know. Going through each line, thinking a thousand times , she had told him that she wanted the gift to remind him of her, he couldn't understand how someone so smart couldn't understand that there was nothing that could make him forget her - not time, not death.
To say this to him, she must have decided it was what she never wanted him to forget.
He wouldn't. He swore to himself, he would never forget. And he would spend every moment with her telling her that through his actions.
Getting up from the bed, he got dressed and picked up the box he had gift wrapped for her. Interestingly even the wrapping was really cute. It was clear he had chosen it just for her, knowing her, she'd probably love the wrapping too.
And she did. The look of joy on her face was more beautiful than any flower in this world. She carefully unwrapped it, trying not to tear any part, making him smile helplessly.
The moment Qiu Yue saw the red jadeite hairpin her gaze froze as her eyes widened. It was beautiful. It was so beautiful! Maybe to others they'd see only the monetary value but Qiu Yue loves hairpins, it wasn't because of the heritage they came with, or the place, for some reason she just loved how elegant and unique they looked.
It was a single piece with a pretty simple design but the way poppies were carved into the blunt end of the pin and the way it looked as though the two pieces of jadeite were twisting around each other at the body it looked beyond perfect. It was so cool to the touch but Qiu Yue could feel the warmth of Huo Zi Feng's feelings emanating from it.
Zi Feng took the pin from her hand before motioning for her to turn. He couldn't do anything too complicated but he had been practicing the simple twist that she made with the hairpins she normally wore.
This was probably the hundredth time she was repeating this, but right now Qiu Yue couldn't contain the happiness she felt. Waking up next to him, receiving the gift from him, giving him the gift she'd chosen, having him help her tie her hair, they were simple things and yet they made her the happiest she had ever been.
For the rest of the day, even after going to work with the nearing game launch, Qiu Yue was in cloud nine. She skipped her steps like a kid and couldn't stop smiling. As soon as she saw Zhou Jia and Yao Yan she couldn't help hugging them, ruffling Meng Hui's hair, her euphoria was blindingly beautiful.
Huo Zi Feng chuckled looking at her, did the gift make her so happy?
He leaned his head next to her as she looked at the computer screen and called out to her. He waited for her normal reaction, she would turn red and furrow her eyebrows, scolding him with embarrassment, but it didn't happen, instead, he was met with another beautiful smile.
"Only this much makes you so happy?"
He could only smile helplessly.
"Yep! I woke up next to you~ nothing else can make me happier!"
His eyes softened into a doting look.
"As long as I exist, you won't have to wake up alone after this."
Qiu Yue's lips twitched a bit even though her smile remained.
"Is that you indirectly asking me to live with you?"
Their cute bantering went on and this author will spare you single dogs of the details.
But on the other hand, a man stood in front of a large screen his face twisted into cruel expression. His eyes were filled with anger and lust as he looked at the confident young lady projected in the screen. Looking at the other man standing next to the lady his expression turned to a mocking snarl.
"Do you think that just by having me kicked out of the Lang family everything will end?"
His gruff voice echoed loudly to no one but himself.
Just looking at Qiu Yue standing so confidently, Wang Xi wanted to capture her. He wanted to break her wings and trap her in a cage. Did she believe that Huo Zi Feng could protect her? But only if she were unwilling would it be more fun...
His face morphed from a snarl to a sickening grin in seconds and it seemed like he'd finally lost all semblance of sanity.
