Kapitel 140: Chapter 140: Insider Information and Violations

Zhou Yi and Wang Qian returned just before noon, bringing some hamburgers and fried chicken from downstairs. The four of them had a simple lunch together. Lian Yingying, who went to the construction site with her father, didn't join them.

"Boss, how much did you make?" Zhou Yi asked, glancing at Chen Wei's computer while munching on a hamburger.

"I made 1.6 million. Jealous?" Zheng Junpeng responded with a smile.

"Really? That impressive? Maybe I should switch to trading the domestic market too!" Zhou Yi exclaimed in shock.

Wang Qian was also astonished, her mouth agape as she quickly ran over to Chen Wei's side to take a look, only to see the copper charts on the screen.

"Today the stock index moved a lot, which is why I made some money. It's not like this happens every day," Chen Wei explained, smiling as he switched the screen to the stock index.

Zhou Yi examined it closely and commented, "This stock index moves pretty smoothly, much better than the U.S. stocks."

Chen Wei shook his head, "It's not necessarily easier, each market has its characteristics. But trading copper futures is definitely more stable. I was just discussing with Zheng Junpeng about our next steps to hire some traders for the domestic market."

Chen Wei switched the screen back to copper futures.

"The chart does look stable. Maybe I shouldn't just trade U.S. stocks; I should also trade domestic ones," Zhou Yi said after a while.

After investing 3 million, Zhou Yi still had over a million left, which he initially planned to use for buying a house and a car. However, seeing the domestic market's potential, he decided it was more prudent to open a domestic account and start trading alongside Chen Wei.

Chen Wei had no objections to this.

"Uh... do you have any insider information?" Wang Qian asked innocently from the side.

She was also tempted by the idea of making over a million in a day. She had some savings, and if Chen Wei had insider information, she could also make some money.

Chen Wei, Zheng Junpeng, and Zhou Yi all turned to look at her with strange expressions.

Feeling embarrassed, Wang Qian quickly said, "I was just asking."

She thought insider information couldn't be casually disclosed...

Zhou Yi laughed, "Wang, you're part of the industry now, so it's time you learned some basics. Otherwise, you'll embarrass us when talking to others. Let me explain what insider information is."

Wang Qian gave an awkward smile.

Zhou Yi continued, "Generally speaking, insider information falls into three categories. The first is policy-related information. For instance, if the government plans to introduce a policy, certain insiders might get wind of it before it becomes public. This counts as insider information."

"Obviously, this isn't something we can access at our current level. However, as we grow and increase our influence in the industry, we might eventually get access to such information."

"The second type is corporate insider information. For example, if a listed company plans to announce significant news, their top executives and those closely connected to them will know in advance. This also counts as insider information."

"Again, this is beyond our reach right now. None of us know any CEOs of listed companies!"

"The third type is trading firm insider information. This includes details about what stocks a large institution plans to trade, at what prices they'll enter, and when they plan to exit. This is also considered insider information and is often what retail investors think of as insider information."

"We aren't at that stage yet. Despite calling ourselves traders, we're really just retail investors. But our future goal is to develop into a private equity firm. When we manage tens of billions of funds, our trading plans will constitute insider information."

Zhou Yi explained everything in detail, and Wang Qian finally understood, nodding in realization.

"So, does that mean I can follow your trades then?" she asked.

The three of them looked at her again.

This time, none of them laughed.

"What's wrong?" Wang Qian asked, confused.

Zheng Junpeng shook his head, "Wang Qian, if we do start our private equity business in the future, you need to understand the relevant regulations. Simply put, as an employee of Tianrun, you can't casually trade stocks personally. This applies to all of us. All personal accounts will be monitored by regulatory authorities. Any unauthorized trading by us can lead to serious consequences."

Wang Qian was stunned.

Chen Wei added, "What Zheng said is correct. Right now, Tianrun hasn't started its private equity fund, so there aren't many restrictions. But once we do, all of us, especially the senior management, must avoid any securities investments that conflict with our fund projects. Remember this."

Wang Qian quickly nodded.

"Don't be disheartened, Wang Qian. If you work hard, the company will share some of its profits with you through bonuses," Chen Wei reassured her, seeing her slightly disappointed expression.

Wang Qian brightened up and eagerly promised to work hard.

Chen Wei then said, "Speaking of which, I think we should all get our professional qualification certificates. They will be very useful if we plan to set up a fund in the future. We can't always rely on outsiders."

Zheng Junpeng agreed, "That's a good idea. If I remember correctly, the next exam is in March next year. We can buy some books and study; it shouldn't be too difficult."

Zhou Yi pulled a face, "Do we really have to take the exam?"

As someone who had always struggled with academics, he dreaded the idea of exams.

"You don't have to, but if we do start a fund, you won't be eligible to be the fund manager," Zheng Junpeng teased.

"Okay, okay, I'll take it. I'll give it my all!" Zhou Yi declared, determined.

"Do I have to take it too?" Wang Qian asked, looking worried.

Although she did well in school, she knew nothing about stocks and assumed the exam would be very difficult.
