Chapter 157: The Last Stand

Kicking the heroine away, Vismarck back off as he slapped his hands together after some of the blood flowed in between his palms.

'Blood Beasts!' much like of Bleight had summoned shadows to aid in the fight before his untimely demise, Vismarck could create sanguine creatures.

They were much too weak to deal any significant damage but they could serve as meatshield whilst he put some distance in between the two of them and prepared for an actual attack.

He created dozens of them and made sure to give them orders than would ensure they would remain standing for as long as possible.

During the short respite he created for himself, he made blood from the floating sphere seep into the ground, solidified some of it into floating projectiles and a spear, created more blood beasts and used up the remaining blood to enhance himself.

This action made him feel like he was on the verge of exploding but thanks to being an undead, he felt no pain from this action.

It also reduced his available time before crumbling away even further.

But there was no choice for him, Superstes was getting exponentially stronger at this very moment, he needed to fell her in only a few blows.

The spear was left floating beside him and the beasts were ordered to stay behind him.

As he adapted to the sudden surge of power, brought by the absorption of a gigantic quantity of blood, which had been mixed from many different species and was thus, not fit for consumption in the first place.

He had achieved all that he wanted in only a few mere seconds.

Superstes was already done with the beasts and heading toward him.

Looking at her, she looked more undead than he did and yet, the way and speed with which she moved her broken body was oozing with vitality, it wouldn't be a stretch to believe her injuries were fake.

His eyes filled with determination, Vismarck raised his fists, the looming figure of the hero closing in on him, the instant she got a hold of him, he would be done for.

He was firmly convinced that he only had a single shot at this.

"Glory to the queen!" he shouted unintentionally as he called upon the ability only vampires of his kind had access to.

There existed many types of vampires.

They were separated into two categories, those with lords and those without.

Despite being lordless, the latters were much more feared by default.

Their very existence hinted that the original of their kind had existed into a world different than this one and that the fact their bloodline had breached into another world could only mean that their reputation and power had impressed the universe itself.

The Sun-walkers, Nosferatus, Draculas and Vespertillo were also lordless vampires.

Vismarck didn't know the name of his lord but he was aware of the ability they had passed down onto him.

Though nameless, its power allowed him to nourish the hope that defeating Superstes wasn't an impossible endeavor.

Just as the heroine was about to reach him, he activated it and everything turned dark.

It was like darkness was all that existed now, except for the pulsating red right in front of him.

This ability allowed its user to call forth a sort of sub-dimension, in this dimension of darkness, only the user could move freely.

During the duration of this ability, time would stop flowing or rather, this dimension had no time to speak of.

One couldn't interact with the objects or people outside of this dimension, they couldn't change altitude either.

He would be able to 'phase' through solid walls thanks to this, but if he found himself inside something else once the dimension ceased, the part of his body inside would be shredded, erased no matter what it was.

What was the red pulsating light then?

It was the nervous system of Superstes, the only thing of her that had crossed into the dimension.

The vampire couldn't damage them, but every hit inflicted on them would cause pain, pain caused in this way would be greatly multiplied.

It would all stack up and strike the heroine all at once when the ability was dispelled.

This was the power of his bloodline!

'She probably won't die from the shock, but I only need an instant!' he thought firmly, wasting no time to start pummeling the nervous system with his enhanced strength.

'As long as she stays still... I'll be able to kill her!' his plan had no reason to fail.

'She will be paralysed for an instant! I know it!' his thoughts grew more frantic as he refused the possibility of utter failure.

No one had even survived his dimension of pain before, the idea that it could be meaningless couldn't be approved.

After a few seconds that had seemed like hours to him, the dimension went away.

The projectiles he had prepared beforehand shot forward instantly, the beasts sprinted forward.

The blood he had gotten underground bursted all around Superstes, forming into spikes aimed at her legs.

Gripping the blood spear, Vismarck charged toward her, his expression twisted as the centimeters that separated him and her seemed to stretch into infinity.

Superstes looked him straight in the eyes.

His blood spear was slapped away and the shock was too great for him to celebrate his other attacks hitting her effectively.

He wouldn't have been celebrating for long either way, since she broke through the spikes stabbing through her body, reducing the blood beasts to puddles by merely bumping into them.

The vampire's face was grabbed, his whole body risen up and then slammed into the ground.

'No way... How did she ignore it? How can she still fight even after all of those injuries?' Vismarck couldn't comprehend this, he was too weak to understand how one could achieve this.

Still, his drive to overcome her hadn't left him just yet, pushing himself to his feet by slamming his fists into the ground, he went and challenged her to a close quarters fight.

He lost every single exchange, his hits now seemed either too weak to even push her back or where evaded utterly.

Each of the strikes that landed on him blew his body apart, he remained standing solely due to his innate regeneration being boosted by the blood he had consumed.

'Is this it? Is this... Death?'
