But if she thought about it clearly, it's not like people were equal on earth. 

You had the rich and the poor, the law was different for them all. Not just the law but everything was different for both classes of people. In fact, the schools the rich attended, the poor didn't. The poor took what they could afford and talked themselves into being satisfied with it.
