Xue Rui stared at Li Xinwen who are unharmed with relief. Though they had already planned for this day, it still scares him when he saw the zombies on his way to this TV Station. "Of course. Eldest brother is going to the hospital and save as much medical personnel as he can while also securing more medical supplies. Second brother should be going to that school your sister mentions to clear out the zombies there for our base," Xue Rui replied.
"That's good. How was your journey here? You didn't get hurt anywhere?" Li Xinwen asked.
As soon as Xue Rui heard it, his face lit up with happiness. "Xin Wen, are you worried for me? I'm fine. I didn't get hurt at all. All that training paid off well," Xue Rui replied. Then, his face turned grim as he recalled what he experienced during his way over. To say that they arrived unscathed would be a lie. There were few who were not mentally prepared so there were sacrifices. He tried his best to minimize the loss but it still eats him up inside. After all, unlike his brother, it was his first time leading a troop and witnessing carnages. "We knew the outbreak was coming but seeing it happen… it's really different," he added after a while.
Li Xinwen noted the shift in Xue Rui's expression. He let out a sigh and reached out to pat Xue Rui on the shoulder. "You've done your best. In order not to let their sacrifice be meaningless, you need to finish your mission. There are few people still stuck upstairs. Those people that my sister mentions are probably up there," Li Xinwen said.
Xue Rui's eyes softened as Li Xinwen's hand rested on his shoulder. He couldn't remove his gaze. He was reminded again of when he first saw Li Xinwen and why he fell in love with him. That eyes that was always lively, steady, bright and full of confidence.
"Xinwen…" Xue Rui murmured softly. As if driven by instinct, he slowly lowered his head, approaching Li Xinwen's face only to be flicked on the forehead. This flick was even layered with spiritual energy so the pain that he felt was hundred times worse than a normal flick. He let out a pained yelp and covered his forehead in pain.
Li Xinwen merely gave him a smirk, clearly satisfied with his handiwork. He had almost forgotten how Xue Rui can be. 'Honestly. It's been several years and he still hasn't given up,' Li Xinwen thought as he continued to stare at the older male who are still rubbing on his forehead.
"Alright. Enough of that. I didn't even use that much of a strength," Li Xinwen said in an amused tone. "Stay focused, Rui-ge. This isn't time for distraction. Keep this up and I will be sure to inform Jun-ge to increase your training."
At this threat, Xue Rui immediately straightened up, face shifts into a more professional expression. "No need for that, Xinwen. I am completely focused now!" he said before he turned back to his men and ordered his team to set up a temporary base.
"Oh, right. Rui-ge, can you please spare some medical personnel for my manager? She's pregnant with a child. I am worried that the situation has put a stress on her," Li Xinwen informed the man.
"Of course! That's not a problem. Is there anything else you need?"
"No. I'll leave this place to you. Once you are done here, we meet up at the promised place," Li Xinwen replied. "Though Hua-jie and A'Xiao is at home, I'm still feeling a bit worried for my mom."
When he heard that Li Xinwen would be leaving, he couldn't help but be disappointed. But Xue Rui understood Li Xinwen's worry, especially since it is related to his family. Swallowing his reluctance, he managed to force his lips to form a smile. "Don't worry, Xinwen! I'll make sure everything here is handled properly."
"Good," Li Xinwen nodded. "Ah, I almost forgot. Once you are done here, bring that lady over to Jun-ge. She has talent," Li Xinwen pointed over to Chen Xiu. Then, he moved his finger and pointed over to Mu Bai then An Yunxu. "That is Da Bai. He's pretty tough and loyal. Not as talented as the lady but he has good strength and stamina. Then that over there is An Yunxu. He's…"
Li Xinwen trailed off. He didn't know what he should say about An Yunxu at all. On one hand, he find that An Yunxu is useful once he get his mind into it. But at the same time, he couldn't help feeling that he would be betraying the original Li Xinwen if he recruited him.
"Xinwen? What about him?" Xue Rui asked when he noticed that Li Xinwen was lost in thought.
"Well… He adapts well but he may get too excited in bashing zombie's head. I guess you can also send him over to Jun-ge," Li Xinwen replied. "But if possible, don't let him meet Xue Liang."
"I don't want another unstable piece of shit to worry about," Li Xinwen answered simply. "Anyway. I will go now. Take care, Rui-ge. I will see you again," he said as he placed a hand on Xue Rui's arm briefly before stepping back.
Xue Rui could only watch Li Xinwen leave the TV Station with reluctance. It was only when Li Xinwen's figure disappeared from his sight did he turn back to his men once more, raising his voice to issue instructions. 'In order to see him early, we need to finish our mission early and set off to the agreed base location!'
