Chapter 25: Betrayal
"What on earth are you doing?" Entering the kitchen, I gave Jenny a confused look seeing the pink weird thing she was creating.
"I was thinking of ways to make more money, I went on to realize I could just sell stuff. We still need to make our brand, but I think we can start with our special pink sauce." She said with a prideful smile
"Didn't someone already create that?" I asked to which Jenny sneered
"I tried it and it's disgusting. So, I got thinking. Why can't I just create my own... well, one of my friends gave me the idea last night... that reminds me. Do you want to meet my friends?" She asked to which I blinked for a moment, not knowing what to say for some time.
"I already told them we were dating. some already found out you are the guy playing, which kind of makes me not want to expose you to them. there is a chance your face might get on the internet." She said with a sigh,
"I... I don't mind. But let's give it some time first. before then, what's your plan with the sauce?" I asked to which Jennyy shrugged
"I don't know yet, I first want to see if I can create a sauce that's as far away from the original as possible while still tasting good." She said with a smile. I looked at her with a blank look, knowing Jenny didn't put that much thought into how much time and effort would be needed to create something like this. She most likely thought that mixing things, similar to how you can mix colors would be enough.
"Oh, did you get a cool mask for the upcoming tournament?" Jenny suddenly asked, they would be on an airplane and heading towards where the competition would be held. the tickets and stuff were all paid for,
"No, I was thinking of cosplaying as someone to ensure no one knows me," I said to which Jenny nodded lightly while sizing me up and down.
"If you were slightly older, Yuujirou Hanma would be perfect... although you look more handsome and your body isn't too much like his until you flex." She said while looking at me for some time, wondering what to say.
"It has to be someone without red hair, I'm guessing thats a family thing right?" She said to which I nodded lightly.
"... okay, I'm thinking of Gojo, sukuna, Toji, Obito, Itachi... Madara's hair is too long. Hashirama maybe? I want to say Shanks, but you have a similar hair color. Ace, Oden, Zoro... how about Anos?" She asked making me look at her in confusion. I know characters like Gojo, Sukuna, Toji, Itachi, Madara, Hashirama, Shanks, Ace, Oden, Zoro... but Anos? I didn't know who that was.
"You didn't watch The Misfit of Demon King Academy? He is a cocky, badass MC. Maybe the second most broken MC there is behind that guy who just makes everything die." She said while throwing everything she was working on into the trash.
"Let's go bench-watch it," She said leaving me speechless while looking at the trash, and the sink which was filled with stuff she had used.
"Would Lisa not be angry with you wasting stuff like that?" I asked to which Jenny just shrugged
"I will clean it later... okay I will clean it while you watch it. If you don't like it just say so, I have no interest in you watching something you don't like." She said seeing me looking at her with a blank look. Knowing Jenny, she would get in trouble.
"I will help you clean up," I said softly, to which Jenny wanted to say no, but I had already started. Jenny with a down look came to help me,
"My dad has been asking about you lately.... have you two talked?" She said lightly, at her words I shook my head as I and her father have not talked much.
"He sounded down for some reason... I don't know why they are fighting. things were starting to look bright." She said causing me to shut my mouth, not knowing what to say as I caused this... but I had to be honest.
"... if they are fighting, it might have something to do with me," I said lightly, stunning Jenny who looked at me with shock.
"When I and your father went out, I talked about how free I was... well, your father didn't feel free in his marriage. he realized that she might have driven away all of his friends, leaving her as the only thing in his life. last month, he called me to do a small test. every year when they went on a vacation, it was always what she wanted. He wanted to see if she would take his feelings into the matter or try to emotionally blackmail him... He never gave me an update... I didn't know they were fighting." I said softly, as Jenny never told me about this. Jenny blinked stunned for some time,
"... I guess that makes sense. My mother always wore The Pants in the marriage." Jenny said with a downcast look.
"Sorry... I feel like I kept this away from you. I should have told you." I said to which Jenny just shook her head with a gentle smile,
"No, if you opened up my father's eyes then it's for the best... but you must spill the beans. tell me everything." She said to which I nodded while telling her everything. but As I told her, Jenny grew downcast as she realized that her parents might get a divorce
"It's hard to believe, but now that you point it out, my mom always used tears to control my father... If I ever do something like that, you have all right to turn around and run. Don't even try and speak with me." She said with a sad smile.
"No... I will try and fix it. I will ask your father to go out for drinks tonight so we can talk... and I will try and talk with your mother as well. I want them to at least work on the marriage. over 20 years of marriage, it can't all be for nothing." I said softly, to which Jenny looked at me for a moment, before hugging me. She seemed to have forgotten her hands were wet, I didn't care as I was caught off guard by the hug.
"Thank you..." She said softly, although uneasy, I gave her back the hug...
I realized something that day about myself, I didn't care much for revenge seeing it would hurt Jenny. I made plans to be careful about this, and carefully make plans on how I would face them in the future.
After washing the dishes and more talks, we went on to watch the anime Jenny wanted to show me. And to my joy, it was an anime about the concept of magic and even unique stuff like magical eyes. This was perfect as I could use this anime for a boost of creativity... and boost I did as I was amazed seeing the MC powers.
The MC showed abilities that broke common sense. You stop time? Did you think stopping time was enough to stop him? You killed him? Did you think killing him was enough to make him die?
Then the MC pulled out a sword called Venuzdonoa. He swung the sword towards the enemy who easily dodged it, yet he was still cut. The MC badass line went as. 'Did you think you can avoid my attack by dodging it?'
I never seen anyone more badass in my life... well, that was a short list of people I have seen. but the words still stand, I wanted to be just like this guy.
So, before the time for gaming came, I first made a call to Jenny's father for us to go out later that night before we hopped onto the stream. After an hour-long stream, where I was talking more and more often, I headed off towards the bar where I would meet Jenny's father.
'System, how much would it cost to buy Anos powers?' I thought, my eyes hopeful.
{Host, that power is outside my capability. If you're asking about the powers shown in the anime, it could be done, but his true power which made him a true Lion of Destruction? Thats impossible. even if you have all of the money across all of existence, it's outside my powers.} the system said causing my face to drop
'what are you saying? You are the Omni-system. did you lie to me about your capability?' I asked in rage. there were a few reasons I bought this system, and now the system was telling me this. if the system couldn't sell me everything I wanted, then I picked the wrong system.
{Host, Anos True Power is Chaotic Destruction, the power to destroy all reason and order. even the impossible is destroyed. Even if it's beyond his power, that contradiction between himself and the target would empower Anos. He can destroy everything and anything, that's a power not held by reason and common sense.} The system was quick to explain
"..." I went quiet, not expecting Anos' power to be that overpowered. I made a mental note to read the novel in the future.
'So why call yourself the Omni-Money system? Does Omni not mean all? Are you not supposed to have everything awaiting me to buy at the right price?' I asked in disappointment
{Host... why did you pick the Omni-Money System? there were many systems to pick from, so why this?} the system asked to which I went quiet.
'because... I want to start over. I wanted to buy a chance to reincarnate in a new life in a new world, away from this one... I want to just leave this life behind.' I thought calmly, the question I had asked the system that day before I had picked it was simple. I had asked it if I could buy a way to enter a new world, and the system said that was easy work.
Adding my hunger for money at the time, plus I wanted to flee this world, I wanted to leave this life... but as I looked at this world now, I didn't want to leave anymore... all because of Jenny. My new goal in life was just to make my parents suffer, and live happily ever after with Jenny. One day I will show Jenny the world of magic, but until then, I will be strong enough to ensure our safety.
{I can do anything for a price, so long as it's not some absolute, omnipotent power. thats up to you to get on your own using the system resources.} the Omni-System said to which I sighed softly. I wasn't aiming to be god, what I have is good enough for now...
I headed off to the bar, and once I parked the car, I entered the bar to find Jason waving towards me with a bitter smile. I sat at the bar and ordered a drink, I noticed that Jason had already ordered a few drinks, and was pretty much almost drunk.
"Jenny told me you and your wife were fighting," I said softly, to which Jason just rested his head on his arm, a lost look in his eyes.
"for over 25 years we have been married. 25 years I realized I have been under her strings. I got to talk with my old friends, just to realize she had gone behind my back, acting like me to get them away from me. She ensured all I had was her, made me her dog..." Jason said with some tears
"I have no one, I'm in my 40s, hitting 50 soon. how the hell do I rebuild my relationships? how do I make friends in my old age? I was a dumb ass, so easily controlled and manipulated by her." He said softly, leaving me sighing softly.
"Well, Do you think you and her could work things out?" I asked in a soft voice, to which Jason glared at me
"That manipulative demonic bitch... it's impossible. never." Jason said hatefully at the thought of even seeing that woman again.
"the fix to this is simple... you can still try and fix your relationship with your old friends. you can start by facing her while recording your talk with her. ask her if she told them what they told her." I said softly, to which Jason sighed softly.
"If you want to go through with the divorce, you will have my support," I said to which Jason nodded thankfully.
"I'm sorry..." He said while drinking a shot in one go, before ordering another one. Jason blankly looked at the shot in front of him.
"I was a monster of a father-in-law to you. You did nothing wrong... I don't even know why I was such a dick to you. That store we gave you? She planned to manipulate you using that, Jenny was also a part of the plan. I don't know what's wrong with me, I watched her hit my daughter, and all I could do was watch. I couldn't even defend her. I watched as she sold Jenny off to you, yet all I did was nod along. what a man I am." He said with tears.
"I guessed as much... but I'm not bothered by it anymore... I will admit, I wanted to destroy your life. but I realize that would just hurt the person I care for in this world." I said with a sigh, making Jason look at me before he just cried while drinking the whole shot glass.
a few hours later, Jason who was drunk wasn't able to walk, so I had to help him get home. knocking on his door, an annoyed Lana opened the door, just to freeze seeing me helping a drunk Jason who could barely walk.
"Alex... I'm so sorry, my foolish husband was troubling you." She said wanting to come help me, but I shook my head.
"It's alright, where should I take him?" I asked to which she pointed towards the sofa, but I didn't feel like that was right, so she pointed me towards their bedroom, where I put Jason in bed.
"I guess those muscles are not for show," Lana said with a smile seeing how easy it was for me to handle Jason.
"Jason and I were talking at the bar... I wanted to see if there is anything I can do about your fights." I said with a sigh. Lana was about to speak, wanting to brush everything off,
"Stop the act, I know the type of person you are. I just want to know what it would take to fix this marriage. I did my background check on you, born into a poor family, yet with the dream to change your fate. but you were not book smart, you had no talent, other than your cooking skills and manipulative skills... no, you were book smart, it just didn't interest you anymore." I said while sitting down and looking at her, her smile nowhere to be seen.
"You wanted to be a chef for some rich man, but first you had to meet them. so, you climbed the social ladder, boyfriend to boyfriend. never staying with them for more than a week, until your eyes landed on Jason. from the moment he looked at you, you knew you found the perfect person to wrap around your finger." I said while Lana felt uneasy the more I spoke.
"In days, you dumped your current boyfriend and jumped on Jason. bit by bit, you easily got into his heart and began to use your manipulation skills to draw his attention away from everyone else all while being the illusion of the perfect future wife, while slowly changing, no longer bothering to even hide your true colors." I said while looking deeply into Lana's eyes.
"Someone like you loves nothing, money is the only thing in your heart. Push me, and I will buy everything this family has, and leave you on the streets. If ever you get a rich boyfriend, I will appear. If ever you get any good paying job, I will appear. if you ever get a nice-looking apartment, I will appear. I will destroy your life." I said while standing up
"thats a threat... knowing someone like you, you would try and say I raped you right? something like I tried to bring your husband home, and push you down? Everything here is recorded right here." I said while pulling out my phone, showing I was recording everything the whole time.
"I will call Jason tomorrow morning. If I don't hear the good news of your improvement, don't even think that a divorce would help you steal everything he has. I have more than enough money to frame you for murder even with no evidence... Understood?" I asked while Lana's eyes slowly watered.
"This has nothing to do with you." She said unwillingly, marrying Jason after so many years, Lana knew the power of those with money. but she was unwilling to just accept this, she used her capability to get everything she had. yes, she was a gold digger, but how else was she going to make it in life? She used her capability and her powers to sit on the level she was today. Look at her, she could get anything she wanted. She went from worrying what she could eat the next day, to worrying what clothing out of the hundreds she had she should wear.
"You got too hooked on money. maybe it was seeing your mother starve herself to feed you, or seeing her sell her body to get food for you. Your mother showed you all of the love in the world, yet you went on to have children while only seeing them as pawns. your heart died along with your mother... you became a monster. While your mother put you first, you went on to only put yourself first." I said while Lana glared at me.
"You know nothing about me. My mother chose death over staying with me." Lana said her eyes turned red.
"No, she chose death over making you suffer. she was willing to sacrifice everything for you. putting you first, making you her world... if she was alive, would you even show her that same level of care or throw her away for money?" I asked while Lana jumped towards me,
"Do not talk about my mother!" She screamed going crazy, but I easily dodged her
"Rule number one of manipulation, self-control... how can you control others, if you're not in control?" I asked coldly, Lana jumped towards me, her claws shooting towards me, just for me to dodge each time, leaving Lana angrier.
"She loved you, yet your way of repaying her was to what? become a monster who can't value the opportunity she gave you?" I asked, still easily dodging her attacks. but she was no longer attacking, just waving her claws around while her tears fell.
"I was born into a family with parents that wanted nothing more than to kill me... I would have done anything to have a mother that loved me like yours did," I said while catching her hands and looking at her face covered in tears. but the next moment her eyes widened as I removed my shirt to reveal the scars.
"I was born into a rich family, but I grew up being tortured. you grew up poor but grew up knowing what love is. I just got to find out what love is a few months ago. I envy your life, you got to experience love all your life, yet you're so ungrateful, and even abuse it... you disgust me." I said in a soft voice,
"... She left me." this was the only thing she could say before she just began to cry.
"I worked so hard for her sake... yet she died. She left me all alone." She said to which I just sighed. Lana grew up poor, it was just her and her mother. She tried her best, enduring the torture at school. she endured everything, all for her mother... but she died. It was just them against the world, yet her mother left her. She died of hunger... but why? She always promised her she was eating.
As a kid, she realized her mother abandoned her to fight against the world all by herself. She was hurt, so she fought alone. all her life, it was just her against the world. Love? that was left with her mother, leaving just the hunger to win this battle. So she fought, and she fought, and she fought. She had never looked back, not wanting to remember the betrayal, and now look where she stood. She was living in money and was still growing.
