Chapter 5: New face Old stories: Dai household, family of four

In the Kai capital the counting of Big Landlords do not exceed more than ten. These Landlords were ranked according to the quantum of properties and assets they hold in their hands. At the bottom of this rank-chart was registered a name as ; Dai Landlord.

Unlike other Landlords he was one of those few first generation Landlord who built his own household rather than inheriting the family's forever passed down wealth and fortune. Even if he wanted to there was nothing left to take over.
The surname Dai weren't local to Kai capital. They were Landlord from Fennin country. There, his family was schemed against and their possessions were confiscated by the schemer...even his father's mistresses eloped with this schemer leaving the three people to fend for themselves.
Later his parents fled to Kai capital and lived like a tramp finally dying on the cold streets unknown to anyone else. The ten year old Dai Landlord buried his parent's ashes near the river-bank and he himself stroll around following some merchants, businessmen and small Landlords, in the process, learning the skills to establish his own footing in Kai.

Through various hardships and good luck he was finally able to built a big enough Dai household that could be register under the country's name. At the age of thirty-five he was married to a kind and gentle farmer daughter and thereafter never intent to take in another woman, solely devoted to his beautiful wife.
After three years of marriage, the Dai family welcomed a lovely young master and named him Dai Suyin.
This young master was borned pre-mature ; only after seven months of pregnancy. Everyone thought that the child wouldn't live pass few days but proving them all wrong Dai Suyin managed to live a healthy ten years. More to it, the young master grew up smart and quick witted.
But after his tenth birthday the young master developed some kind of illness. At first it was just a common cold, sometime weakness and sometime dizziness but as time passed by his body finally gave up and the young master fell on the bed; his entire torso paralyzed.
After the birth of Dai Suyin, the Dai spouse weren't graced with a second child. It left them heart-broken. Both Dai husband and wife were bitter grieved on their misfortune. At last they accepted the harsh reality and nurture their love onto their only son. Watching their son grow up into a refine and sensible young master the Dai spouse were much comforted and treated their fate of only one child as the Heaven's will.
But how can a mere mortal predict the Heavens. Soon, the Dai spouse were shoved with it's cruelty when their only son became a breathing corpse. Dai Landlord invited every superior doctors but none of them could understand the root of this unusual illness. They shook their head helplessly and advised Dai spouse to stay strong hearted. Dai spouse now could only quietly weep their tears and complain their suffering to the non-existent Heavens- so they thought because if there were really such thing then why would their life become miserable to this point.
But maybe Heavens heard their complains' or pitied their life, one day a sickly wrinkled face old woman in her forties along with her young daughter who seems to be three yrs older than Dai Suyin visited the Dai household.
She met with Dai spouse and said that she has a way to revive the young master's health.
Dai spouse who heard it were joyful to their core but still didn't put much hope on the woman benefactor who had miraculously knocked upon their door.
The back-bent old woman who wore a black cloak and walk with difficulty by the support of a long and thick wooden stick started her one week long treatment. During this time not a single soul were allowed near five metre radius of the young master's room. Dai spouse became somewhat suspicious but decided not to persue further as long as their son can recover from his state.
Dai Suyin did recover and after a year of recuperation he could run and jump like other kids of his age. The old woman who treated Suyin became more and more weak and at last gave up her life. Treating her as their benefactor Dai spouse decide to adopt her daughter into their family tree. Thus with a new life Suyin was also greeted with an elder sister. The original family of three now adding a new member became a small and happy family of four.
After a complete one year Suyin felt visible improvement in terms of his health.He could now run like a leopard and jump like a frog. He also became quite mischievous and playful. The relation between the two sister and brother also grew closer and like every ordinary siblings they would laugh, cry and bicker with each other time and again. Suyin sometimes would prank her sister and in return would be chased around the entire house and yard by his sister.
It was also the same for today. Dai Tiya was in the kitchen preparing porridge and when she went out to fetch a vase of water Suyin tip-toedly enter the Kitchen, picked up the vessel on the stove, brought it out towards the shed and fed it to pigs. When he was found out Dai Tiya chased him with a knife in her hand.
"Dai. Su. Yin. Let me see how far you can escape today. Lest I catch with you, I shall break your damn legs..If not then, I won't be your sister anymore."
Suyin who was chased to the main door of the house turned around sticking his tongue out like a child -
"Sister~who would be able to eat your porridge anyway. I fed it to our pig and it got a loose stomach. Haha.."
The reward he got for his compliment was a flying knife that he narrowly dodged and ran out the house.
In the yard Dai spouse were sun drying the harvest of this year. He ran pass them leaving some words ringing out behind
"Father. Mother. I will return by 8th in the night."
Dai Tiya roared at Suyin, whose figure disappeared in a distance. Dai spouse who were accustomized seeing their grown up kids behaving like some five yrs old children could only helplessly shake their head and continue with their work.
