"What?" Alex's eyes flew wide as he shot up to his feet, garnering the attention of the people sitting in front of his desk. "The baby's coming? Now?"
"Yes."
"But we're not due till next week." What was he saying now?
"Where are you? Who's with you?" He rambled, his eyes frantically darting in search for his keys, but they were lying in his pocket.
"Mom is here. We're heading to the hospital." Vanessa's told him.
"Are you okay? Does it hurt? How's the contractions coming?"
Vanessa recognized the anxiety in his voice. "It's mild and very tolerable, so I'm fine." She assured him. "Alex, are you coming? I don't want to do this without you."
"I'm on my way. Just hang in there and take deep breaths. Deep breaths, Nessa." He told her, and Vanessa practicalized it. "I'll be with you soon." He said, before disconnecting the call. If he could, he'd stay on the line with her till he got there, but he knew he couldn't do that.
