Chapter 21: Best Delicacy

I couldn't get the sound of the alarm blaring out of my ears. With each sound it made, it got louder.

I groaned and turned, placing the pillow I was sleeping on over my head. I didn't want to leave the bed. I really wanted to sleep in.

The sound stops after three more sounds and I sigh in content. But then it dawned on me that my alarm never stops unless I haul it across the room.

If I didn't do it, then-

My eyes flew open and I sat upright. Everything was still blurry since I was still sleepy.

"You alright?"

I jumped at the sound of his voice.

"Jesus!" I placed a hand on my chest but then realized I wasn't clothed but covered with the duvet. My mind went to what transpired between us last night and I cleared my throat. "You scared me!"

"Sorry." He apologized. "You okay? You suddenly sat up." He was sitting at the edge of the bed, thankfully with shorts on.

"Y-yeah." I cleared my throat. Again. "The alarm stopped but I remembered my alarm never stops unless I haul it across the room."

"I turned it off since I didn't want to wake you." He explains. He waves his phone showing the alarm button. "But it did the opposite."

Then realization hit me. "You set alarms?" I ask, a little taken aback.

"Who doesn't?" He asks back.

"I'm just surprised you do." I adjusted the sheets that were around my body well and that little movement caught Christian's eye but he quickly looked away.

"It's to avoid sleeping in." He stands. "When is your class?" He asks me.

My mind is literally blank right now.

"Three." I finally answered.

He nods. "Okay. I have a class by 11, so why don't you get set while I go whip us some breakfast yeah?"

I nod. "Sure. I'll be right out." He nods and walks out, closing the door gently behind him.

After the door closed, I huffed back down and placed my hand over my eyes.

So technically, I slept with Christian again. After specifically warning myself not to and promising myself I won't , I still did.

What a way to keep myself in check.

I sighed and got up from the bed. I searched around for my phone. Finally found it on Christian's bedside table and I sincerely don't recall leaving it there.

I tapped on the screen to see no messages or missed calls from anyone.

Glad to know I'm not missed.

The time was a few past eight so I dropped my phone on the bed and walked into the bathroom to have a shower.

By the time I got out of the shower, Christian had already set my dress on the bed.

Just seeing the dress gave me vivid images of last night.

Last night was hot. I won't deny that fact. I wanted it to happen, and it did. I wanted to have sex with Christian Sinclair, and I did. I was very much aware of what I was about to do and I very much agreed to it.

Just have to step out now and not act weird.

I took a deep breath and changed into my clothes. I took several deep breaths before I finally opened the door.

When I got to the kitchen, Christian was already dressed and was seated by the counter. He looked up when I walked in.

"Hey you." I said casually as I walked to the fridge to get a bottle of water.

"Hi." He said back. "I got ready in the guest room while you were in the shower."

"It's no problem. It's your house." I gave him a small smile and sat in front of him.

He moves the plate of pancakes towards me and I chuckle.

"Pancakes?"

"What? You don't like pancakes?" He asks, his face stricken with fear as if he had done something wrong.

I shake my head. "No, no." I quickly corrected. "I'm just surprised you made pancakes. I thought you didn't know your way around the kitchen." I took a bite out of it.

"Then I'd starve." His features were more relaxed now. "And my mom would whoop my ass." I nearly choked on my pancake. "She didn't drag me into the kitchen for no reason."

"What?" I managed to ask in-between my laughs.

"It's true. My mom said the way to a lady's heart is through her stomach."

"I thought it was through their bank accounts." I chided.

"And that." He agrees. "And besides, pancakes is my best delicacy. It's what I'm best at."

"Please. Even a three year old could make pancakes." I take another bite.

"But no three-year-old could make pancakes more than I could. It has a very special ingredient." He winks. "Swoops ladies off their feet." He adds with a smirk.

"I guess you didn't add enough of your 'special ingredient' because I'm yet to feel anything." I eat another bite. "It just tastes like plain old pancakes to me. Maybe a little salty though."

That wipes the smirk out of his face. "That's because your heart is just made of stone."

"Sure sure." I roll my eyes.

I hit a nerve. I was pretty sure of it. Because he didn't stop grumbling as he cleared his plate and placed it in the sink.

"Meet me in the car when you're ready." He mutters without meeting my eye.

"Aw, are you sad because I insulted your poor excuse of cooking?" I teased him and he flipped me his finger. "I know you love me." I laughed, but he just walked out, slamming the door behind him.

Point to note, Christian gets insulted when you degrade his cooking.

I had a quick last bite and grabbed my things to go join Christian downstairs before he decides to leave me.

I got in the car and he immediately hit the road.

"Still sucking?" I ask him with a teasing smile.

"I know my pancakes are the best. No matter what you say."

"I know. They are good." I admit. "Not just good enough to swoop me off my feet.

"Never intended to." He answers and for some reason, my smile falls because of that, and my heart aches a little.

Why?

I have no reason.

"Like I said, you have a stone heart."

"Stone heart. Got it." I replied, my voice a little subtler than the last and he glanced at me. I looked out the window and watched as we passed by the buildings.

No words were exchanged anymore, and I kind of appreciated the silence more.

At least words that would hurt me further wouldn't be said.

The car stops and I stare at the building in front of me. "I thought you were going to school."

"I am, but you aren't." He answers. "You said you didn't have class until three right?" I nod. "So just flex at home till three. Easy."

I give him a small smile. "Thanks for the ride."

"Sure."

I opened the door. "Lesley?" I turned to Christian before I could step out of the car.

It looked like he wanted to say something, like he wanted to tell me something but he just smiled. "Pick you up after your class?"

I stared at him for a moment, wondering what it was he wanted to tell me before.

"Of course. I finish by five."

"We can grab dinner after?" He asks again.

I smile at him and nod. "I'd make sure to starve myself so I can eat your money later."

He smiles back. "I'd love that."

I wave at him, and step out of his car. The smile wiping off my face immediately I closed the door.

I don't know why, but my mood had completely turned sour after the little conversation in the car.
