Chapter 22: Setting Out Again

Her stats aren't that great huh. I mean her intelligence is fairly high, perhaps the highest ive seen so far, but everything else is kind of lackluster. I wonder how they managed to fend off the monsters to this point, I mean hell I almost kicked the bucket back there to that Vigo thing but it wouldn't come near them at all.
Currently we were back on the road heading to our destination, the town of Calyum. There wasn't much conversation going on, we were mainly just walking in silence, the only exception being the crunch of leaves on the ground. Including me there were four people in the group; there was Jasmine who was the only woman in the group, then Kris and Hansel. The other twos stats were so low it wasn't worth even mentioning; even if you put both their stats together nothing would reach the double digits. Anyway, I might as well try and get some information.
(To Jasmine) "So how did you know about me?"
"I'm sorry?"
"I didn't tell you my name, so how did you know who I was?"
"Oh, that. Well who wouldn't know the person who saved the town back there. I'm very grateful by the way."
I wanted to say, "well if you're so grateful why didn't you take that as payment for helping me?" but ultimately said nothing.
"My turn for a question. So what are you? I mean your species; I can tell you're a humanoid but just can't pinpoint exactly what."
Well I obviously cant tell her the truth. I think back in town I said I was... "A goat type of demi-human."
"Oh really..."
She eyed me up before placing her right hand on her chin and becoming silent. That seems to have peaked her interest. I didn't want her thinking of some flaw with what I said, so I quickly continued the conversation.
"So how were you able to keep that monster away last night? That think wouldn't even come near you guys"
"Oh, that. Well were using a ward to keep monsters at bay. If you don't have one you're practically begging to be attacked, especially at night"
"..."
I guess Kris felt left out of the conversation, so he decided to butt in.
"Yeah, if you don't have a ward an night, you must be some type of dumbas-"
"No one was talking to you Kris!"
"..."
"..."
"Did I tell you my name?"
"..."
"Yes?"
We walked in silence from that point onward.

I dreamed of my past again last night. I miss him; It's a shame what happened though. Mike was like a second father to me, and while he didn't quite know how to take care of a child, he still took me into his life. All he really knew how to do was fight, so he drilled fighting into me. He was a fighter right up until he died; huh, I guess I was too, I wonder if he'd be proud. It's strange, usually when I think of him I get upset, but right now I feel indifferent. Is this a side affect of being a demon? Maybe I just moved on. I'm not sure, but I don't want to lose what makes me human; I should keep an eye on my emotions going forward.
"There it is, Calyum. We should make it by nightfall if we pick up the pace a bit"
Jasmine pointed towards a structure far in the distance.
We picked up the pace and eventually reached the entrance gate. It started to rain. The walls were decorated with large metallic crosses, is this a religious town? The sun was starting to set, and if I'm being honest I don't want to spend another night sleeping on the ground. We walked up to the gate and they examined us along with our IDs before letting us in. It had taken us about two days of walking on the road to get here.
Now that we were finally inside the town my job was over, but just as I was about to leave, Jasmine spoke up.
"You don't have a place to stay do you?"
I turned to look towards her but didn't answer.
"You also don't have any money right?"
I see where this is going
"Why don't you stay with us tonight. We know the perfect place, plus it must beat sleeping on the streets."
Is she trying to curry another favor from me? I'll just take her kindness at face value and hope there isn't some ulterior motive, after all I don't want to go back to sleeping in an alley, plus it's raining.
"Okay, I'll stay for tonight"
She smiled and led the group to a decent looking inn called the "House of Sleep." After entering we ate a nice meal, bathed using water magic and retired to our rooms. We doubled up with the rooms; in the first one was me and Jasmine, and in the other room Kris and Hansel.
I really should get more clothes soon, I've been wearing the same thing since I bought it.
Also, is it just me or has Jasmine been stealing glances at me? I feel like she's been eyeing me up since earlier. It's probably just my imagination. I entered our room and Jasmine followed behind me. Once entering we lit some candles in the room and began getting ready for bed. While I was taking off my boots a voice from behind said quietly, "why don't you take a bit more off"
I was speechless, and she took advantage of that to bring me closer to her. She started touching my horns; it was a strange feeling. She brought one of her hands to my cheek and started feeling my face. Her eyes flashed yellow for a second, and a not long after I got a notification.
