Lin Feng no longer had to wear the Hextech handcuffs or return to that cold cell.
Just as he stepped out of the hall, the system's task was automatically completed.
He received a reward: the Specter Cloak.
The Piltover Council had prepared a special residence for Lin Feng, and for "Lin Feng's safety," numerous guards were stationed at the residence.
Since Lin Feng had temporarily cleared his name, he would be fully involved in the investigation process of the case going forward.
Of course, the case would still be led by Caitlyn and Vi.
Given the circumstances, no one could say that there were issues with the capabilities of the two investigators.
This meant that, aside from sleeping at night, Lin Feng had to be under the "accompaniment" of the two law enforcement officers at all times.
In other words, surveillance.
Naturally, Lin Feng wanted to avoid these initially cold female law enforcement officers.
Fortunately, Caitlyn's attitude had improved somewhat, but Vi remained the same due to her poor mood.
Lin Feng wasn't afraid of her, but once Vi donned the Hextech gauntlets, it would be a different story.
With one punch, she could...
After sending off the two law enforcement officers, Lin Feng began to explore the room, feeling quite bored. Everything here was new and fresh to him as an outsider.
The atmosphere was filled with the essence of Piltover, and unlike the cell, this place made Lin Feng feel very comfortable, almost like he had entered a themed hotel.
From here, Lin Feng looked out of the window for the first time.
Beautiful.
So beautiful!
It was an industrial city Lin Feng had never seen before, belonging to the age of steam machinery and Hextech magic.
This was entirely different from the traditional steampunk he had imagined.
In traditional steampunk, the ground was covered with billowing chimneys, precision machinery in black and white contrasted against a hazy yellow sky, and people in sharp suits walked briskly along the streets.
However, the air in Piltover was refreshingly good.
The azure sky was dotted with clearly visible clusters of clouds, vibrant colors making the whole city feel more alive. Serious expressions were rare on the faces of Piltover's residents, and sunny smiles added a touch of brightness to the city.
In an instant, Lin Feng felt an impulse.
Why not just settle down here?
He quickly shook his head, dispelling such thoughts.
He still wanted to see the trees in Ionia and the sea in Bilgewater; there was no way he would be limited to this place.
After enough sightseeing, Lin Feng returned to the soft and comfortable bed, preparing to check his reward.
The Specter Cloak.
*Specter Cloak: Provides 25 points of magical resistance when worn and can neutralize 50% of toxins that come into contact with it.*
The Specter Cloak was entirely blue, featuring a hood, resembling a half-length outfit worn by a girl group member, with the hem stopping just below the chest.
Strangely, the cloak appeared semi-transparent, allowing glimpses of the scenery from one end to the other.
Lin Feng couldn't quite discern the material, but one thing was certain: if this were modern times, it would be a highly sought-after clothing material.
In just a moment, Lin Feng draped the Specter Cloak over himself.
At that instant, he expected to feel something special, but in reality, it felt just like wearing ordinary clothes.
Upon reflection, Lin Feng realized that in a place without toxins, he naturally wouldn't feel anything dangerous.
As for the magical resistance, he considered testing it with magic.
However, after much thought, his survival instinct outweighed his scientific curiosity.
If something exploded, he would be in a bit of trouble, perhaps even setting a record for Piltover's history of being detained in the Council twice in a single day.
Lin Feng quietly put away the Specter Cloak, deciding to take it out only when necessary; otherwise, wearing such an item would feel odd to anyone.
Next, Lin Feng continued to explore the available functions in the system, even trying to communicate with it.
But contrary to his expectations, this wasn't a conversational system, regardless of what methods he employed.
Unlike the previous passive task system, since completing the last task, Lin Feng had not received any further tasks.
However, he could claim tasks.
A section labeled "Tasks" appeared in the system, and upon opening it, several selectable items were listed.
- *Task: Become a Piltover Council Member*
- *Reward: 3000 Gold, Explorer's Shurima Gloves*
- *Task: Defeat the Piltover Law Enforcer Vi using boxing techniques*
- *Reward: Rage Potion, Fighting Gloves*
- *Task: Find Seraphine hidden within Piltover*
- *Reward: 500 Gold, Fairy Amulet*
- *Task: Court the female police officer Caitlyn*
- *Reward: 1000 Gold, Unlock Skin "Pool Party Caitlyn"*
...
Looking at these tasks, Lin Feng felt his head buzz.
Becoming a council member? Why not just send him to the sky?
Every task in the system seemed outrageous, and there were no time limits either.
From this, Lin Feng deduced that these must be the so-called "side" tasks or achievement system.
They could be completed at will; if not, it was no big deal.
The previous tasks were clearly the "main" tasks, which had to be done because they explicitly stated a punishment mechanism.
Although the penalties for failing those two tasks were negligible, that wouldn't always be the case.
Lin Feng kept flipping through the pages, eventually finding some tasks that he could accomplish.
- *Task: Study Piltover's legal knowledge for one hour (repeatable daily)*
- *Reward: 2 Gold*
- *Task: Study Hextech knowledge for one hour (repeatable daily)*
- *Reward: 2 Gold*
- *Task: Practice the power of runes for one hour (repeatable daily)*
- *Reward: 2 Gold*
...
Two gold was a considerable sum for Lin Feng, especially since he had worked hard for ten gold on his last task, and this one could be repeated daily, meaning it was a daily task.
The problem was, while there were many tasks that looked easy, they also required a certain time investment.
In other words, Lin Feng couldn't complete all the tasks in one go; he had to pick and choose.
Nevertheless, even so, Lin Feng was quite satisfied. Why not take what he could get? He could do these tasks along the way, accumulating wealth bit by bit.
Once he had enough gold, he could buy a wage outfit and start rolling in profits.
He just wondered if he could buy several wage outfits at once; that would be quite a steal.
With this thought in mind, Lin Feng no longer hesitated and turned to knock on the door.
"Guard, I need some books here!"
