Chapter 31: Medallion

She would be alone in the hall.

She would be the one responsible for her own safety. 

This meant that if a spawn or a noble were to appear and suddenly attack her, she would have to defend herself or face certain death. 

That seemed fair.

Again, there would be risk involved.

"Why?" she asked. 

How could Ophelia suddenly offer her help?

Naturally, Eve immediately wondered if the woman had any motives. Was she brewing a scheme behind the scenes?

Was she just like Susinda?

What if she was?

"The Prince favors you," Ophelia smiled. "Please don't take it personally. I want to make it clear that my interest in helping you is purely business— related. As a Mistress, I have the privilege of supporting a woman in this competition, and I want to place my bet on you."

"Bet?"

"Yes. In the competition, Mistresses have the power to back a woman of their choosing and assist them. I've decided to place my wager on you."
