Chapter 76: Chapter 76 A thief crying “stop thief!”

The next day.

Anton arrived at the Daily Bugle.

By this time, Eddie and April had already been waiting in his office for nearly an hour.

Well, bosses do have the privilege of being late.

"Anton, I brought April here for you. What do you want to ask her?"

Eddie looked at Anton curiously.

Thinking about the situation Anton described last night, Eddie had a hunch that this would turn out to be very interesting.

"April, you've been investigating The Foot Clan for a long time. Tell me, why are they stealing Oscorp chemical supplies?"

Anton asked the same old question.

A less insightful person might think The Foot Clan stole them to sell on the black market, as these chemicals and materials were quite valuable.

But a smarter person would understand that The Foot Clan wouldn't risk offending Oscorp for just a bit of money.

April hesitated. "Oscorp has been purchasing large amounts of chemicals recently. Many rare materials are hard to find on the market, with their prices skyrocketing—even on the black market. Some of them are simply unavailable… Maybe The Foot Clan couldn't source the materials from the black market and decided to resort to outright theft."

"So you're saying The Foot Clan is conducting some kind of chemical experiments—biological or genetic experiments—and they desperately need these materials?" Anton pressed further.

"I don't know. My understanding of The Foot Clan is limited to their name and the bad things they do," April replied, shaking her head. "As for their inner workings, I don't know anything."

Anton asked again, "Have you heard of someone named Shredder?"

April continued to shake her head. "No, never."

"Alright."

Anton sighed and turned to Eddie. "Have you learned anything more through your channels?"

"Shredder seems to be a martial arts master, known for his ninja skills, and he runs a dojo in Brooklyn," Eddie said. "However, he rarely shows himself. The only confirmed detail is his connection to Sykes Corporation. My source has seen Eric Sykes, the founder of Sykes Corporation, visiting this ninja master dojo in Brooklyn multiple times."

April, listening to their conversation, couldn't help but chime in.

"Sykes Corporation recently signed some cooperation agreements with the NYPD. The police will use Sykes' technology to help the task force combat New York criminal organizations, especially the increasingly active Bigfoot Gang…"

She paused before explaining, "That was on Channel 6 morning news today."

"Sounds promising."

Anton ran through the known information in his head, combining it with the original storyline, and pieced together a plausible thread.

"Eddie, April, what if I told you that the mastermind behind The Foot Clan is Shredder? Would you still think Sykes Corporation is on the side of justice?"

At this, Eddie and April eyes widened in disbelief.

This morning news had just praised the collaboration between Sykes Corporation and the NYPD task force, highlighting their shared mission to combat crime.

Now Anton was saying that The Foot Clan mastermind was someone named Shredder, and that Shredder was closely tied to Sykes?

Could Sykes Corporation really be a case of A thief crying "stop thief!"

"Eric Sykes grew up in Japan and came to New York with his adoptive father as a teenager. After graduating college, he founded Sykes Corporation, which has since become a sprawling enterprise spanning multiple fields," Anton said, pulling up information about Eric Sykes on his computer and cross-referencing it with his memory of the original storyline.

"And Sykes' adoptive father is Shredder," Anton concluded.

"So it true—they really are A thief crying "stop thief!" to cover their own tracks!"

Eddie sucked in a sharp breath.

He didn't doubt Anton conclusion for a second.

Since meeting Anton, Eddie had never been let down. While Anton might enjoy being lazy sometimes, when it came to serious matters, Eddie knew he could place absolute trust in him.

"This is big news!" Eddie exclaimed.

Eddie eyes sparkled as he looked at the dazed April beside him. Suddenly, he asked in surprise, "April, are you alright?"

"Eric Sykes is really a bad guy?"

April hesitated. "But when I was a kid, I thought he was a good person. What you're saying doesn't match up at all."

"Your father used to work for Sykes."

Anton asked, "But there was a fire at the research lab, and your father, along with all the research results, perished in the flames. Afterward, Sykes shut down the lab and sealed off the research, didn't he?"

"You've been investigating me!"

April heart skipped a beat.

She was a bit angry as she widened her eyes and stared at Anton. "Anton, what the meaning of this? I thought we were friends."

"April, don't misunderstand."

Anton shrugged and said, "In our line of work, we always keep a few cards up our sleeves."

What investigation? He was bluffing—he simply knew April O'Neil backstory from the original storyline.

"Eddie, look into The Foot Clan for me."

After saying this, Anton turned to April and added, "Friendly tip: what you mentioned at the bar last night about new superheroes in New York was accurate. They're four talking, ninja-like turtles. I think they're related to your father research—possibly a result of Sykes' earlier experiments."

"Turtles?"

April froze, as if something clicked in her mind. She became excited. "That right, turtles! On the day of the lab fire, I saved them! So, my father research was successful? It didn't fail after all!"

"Anton, April and I will investigate The Foot Clan. What about you?"

Eddie asked curiously.

"I have other matters to attend to."

Anton gave Eddie a meaningful look and replied nonchalantly, "The trouble from yesterday isn't fully resolved yet."

"Got it. Be careful. We'll handle things on our end with The Foot Clan."

Eddie nodded, seeming to catch on.

Afterward, he and April left Anton office.

Anton watched the two leave, then turned back to his computer to search for recent news on Oscorp.

Moments later, he noticed that none of Oscorp recently announced experimental projects involved genetic research.

So why was Oscorp purchasing such large quantities of chemicals related to genetic studies?

Could it be that Oscorp was conducting some secret experiments they couldn't make public?

Anton thought about the genetic disease affecting the Osborn family.

He also recalled how, the night after the Lizard incident, Curt Connors had been broken out of custody while being transported to prison...

It was almost certain that Norman Osborn had orchestrated Connors' rescue.

He wanted to rely on Connors' research to cure his family genetic disease.

Apparently, Norman Osborn had succeeded.

At the same time, he had failed.

He might have cured his family genetic disease, but in doing so, he developed a split personality—a violent and chaotic second identity:

The Green Goblin!
