Leaning forward, closer to her face, Damien pressed his lips on her forehead, feeling the slight amount of heat that was still in her body. Penny closed her eyes, feeling Damien's soft lips on her face, which provided her with a sense of safety and affection.
"I sometimes wish I could just stop these memories. Or if I could just stop searching and sorting through each memory, then I wouldn't have to feel them pricking me one after another," Penny confided in his arms, head nestled against his chest, as he enveloped her in his embrace. "It's not that I care about her or the non-existent relationship we never had, but each time I'm taken back, I feel sorry for the young girl who experienced it all alone," she reflected, pondering whether this was why God had brought Damien into her life to fill that void and alleviate her pain bit by bit.
