Chapter 113: Party time (111)

Saturday was a busy time of Betty. Everything was checked and double check. This would be her best planned part.

As the guest arrived one by one they were in awe of everything. Photos were taken of everyone.

The night was going smoothly. She was walking around checking on things when she heard a group of lady's talking about Oliver.

"You and Oliver make the perfect couple Sue."

"Yes, I wonder if the company that did this party would be willing to do our engagement party?" Sue asked.

"There is Miss Beauté, why not ask her?"

"Miss Beauté, I'm Sue Hooper. I am Oliver McLaughlin fiancée and I was wondering if you also plan engagement partys?"

Betty was shocked. "Yes, My office is in the same building as the law offices. If you like I'll get you a card before you leave."

"Yes, that would be great." Sue said.

Betty walked off. She slipped out into the kitchen. A tear rolled down her cheek. Last week she had spent an intimate time with Oliver and he was engaged.

She put back on a smile and headed back out. Oliver was talking to a few partners when he spotted her.

He excused himself and walked over, "Everything is great. Old man Sanders says this is the best party this company has ever had. Thank you for your help."

"It's my business. Excuse me I need to follow up at the bar." She said.

He put his hand on her arm, "Is anything wrong?"

"No, Everything is going smoothly."

"We still on for next Friday?" He asked.

She stopped. She had forgotten about the charity dinner. Her heart sank even further. "I don't think I can make it. I'll still send my contribution. I think I should go back to work." She pulled away.

After the party her crew help clean up. Everyone was paid and the bills were placed in a file.

As she got into the van Oliver walked over and would not let her door shut.

"Hey, what's wrong Betty?" He asked.

"I'm tired. It's been a long day." She then tired to close the door but he was not letting go.

"Not till you tell me why you are being so cold to me."

"I sorry, I've learned a hard lesson today. I should of never went out with you. Also I think it would be best if you got another company to do your engagement party."

"I see, I never promised you anything. I thought we were just having fun." He said.

"We were. Now it's not fun anymore. I would of never gone out with a man that belonged to someone else." Betty said.

"I'm sorry. Good bye then." He then closed her door.

Ben was walking home from the bus stop with some grocery bags, when an out of control car came at him and knocked him a few feet away. He was sent by ambulance to the hospital.

Someone on the scene found his phone and called the number listed as Dad and soon the whole family was headed to the hospital.

When Doctor Connell came out he said Ben would be fine. He had a broken leg and had sprained his shoulder. They wanted to keep him for a few days.

Betty called Sally and asked her to call Josh.

Betty the thought to herself that the Doctor looked familiar.

As he was charting at the desk she walked over and asked, "Is your name Tim?"

He looked up, "Yes, do we know each other?"

"No not really. I seen a picture of you with two other boys, Oliver and Joseph as kids." She said.

"Where would you see something like that?" He laughed.

"When I was having dinner at Oliver's place. It was the only photo in the place."

"You must be Betty then." He said.

She was puzzled, "Yes"

"Olly told us all about you. He is quite smitten." He said.

"Well, It was a mistake on my part please don't think ill of me."

"I don't understand?" Tim asked.

"I did not know he was engaged. I feel like a fool."

"You know about Sue then?" he said.

"Yes, I met her tonight when she asked me to plan her engagement party." Betty hung her head.

"All I can say is sorry, he should of explained about her to you. But it's really not what you think." he said.

"It's water under the bridge. I'm going to see my brother now. It was nice to meet you." She said walking away.

"Nice to meet you too." He then walked to his office and pulled out his phone.

"Hey Olly, how was the shin ding tonight?" He asked.

"Great everyone was really impressed."

"I met Betty tonight." He said.

"Why was she at the hospital, is everything alright?" Oliver started to panic he knew she was upset when she left.

"She was here for a family member. Recognized me from my childhood picture. Here I thought I look different."

"Nay still ugly as sin." Oliver teased.

"She told me Sue asked her to plan the engagement party tonight. I thought you broke that off."

"I tired, Sue has a way of changing the topic when we are together. I don't want to hurt her and I don't want to marry her." Oliver explained.

"So you hurt the girl you are interested in instead. Thought you were suppose to be the smart one." Tim said.

"What should I do?" Oliver ask.

"Talk to her. Then break up with Sue."

Bella finished her story.

◇◇◇♡♡♡◇◇◇ THE GLASS DOG cont.

"Then tell me where to find my dog and you shall have the powder," promised the wizard.

So the glass-blower went out and pretended to search, and by-and-by he returned and said:

"I've discovered the dog. You will find him in the mansion of Miss Mydas."

The wizard went at once to see if this were true, and, sure enough, the glass dog ran out and began barking at him. Then the wizard spread out his hands and chanted a magic spell which sent the dog fast asleep, when he picked him up and carried him to his own room on the top floor of the tenement house.

Afterward he carried the Beauty Powder to the glass-blower as a reward, and the fellow immediately swallowed it and became the most beautiful man in the world.

The next time he called upon Miss Mydas there was no dog to bark at him, and when the young lady saw him she fell in love with his beauty at once. "

If only you were a count or a prince," she sighed, "I'd willingly marry you."

"But I am a prince," he answered; "the Prince of Dogblowers."

"Ah!" said she; "then if you are willing to accept an allowance of four dollars a week I'll order the wedding cards engraved."

The man hesitated, but when he thought of the rope hanging from his bedpost he consented to the terms.

So they were married, and the bride was very jealous of her husband's beauty and led him a dog's life. So he managed to get into debt and made her miserable in turn.

As for the glass dog, the wizard set him barking again by means of his wizardness and put him outside his door. I suppose he is there yet, and am rather sorry, for I should like to consult the wizard about the moral to this story.
