Chapter 176: Justified Worries

When Basileus was gone, Varya sat at the table, casually conversing with Theron, Solana, and Galen. 

Between words shared, she occasionally glanced at the large clock on the wall, surprised to see how much time had passed since Ebari had gone to see the former emperor.

It had to have been nearly an hour.

"Galen, care to join me in the hallway?" she asked. 

He instantly accepted. 

When they were away from the party, Varya was happy to see that it was mostly vacant. 

"I hate to involve you in this but could you use your security access to see if Ebari is okay?" she asked her friend. "He's on level G2 where the prisoners are kept. I just want you to make sure he's alright. I don't think I can leave the party without drawing suspicion." 

Galen had been drinking as much as the others, but the moment something important was asked of him, he sobered up quickly. He wanted to prove to Varya that she could go to him for anything.
