Chapter 10: Chapter 10 A Person's Battle

```
When the voice from the walkie-talkie abruptly stopped, Professor Buck's face was filled with shock. He pressed the transmit button and shouted, "How are you doing now, reply, answer me Abert."
There was no sound from the walkie-talkie. After waiting a moment, Professor Buck pressed the transmit button again, "Abert, answer me quickly, how are you doing, Abert!"
Gao Yang grabbed Professor Buck's wrist and snatched the walkie-talkie from his hand with the other, then loudly said to Professor Buck, "Professor, you have to understand, Abert is already dead. Don't waste his last effort, by doing this, you're drawing the attackers over. What you should do now is to leave here quickly."
Professor Buck shouted, "No, I must be responsible for my people, I have to go back, I need to return to the camp."
Gao Yang grabbed Professor Buck who was turning to run back to the vehicle and yelled, "Do you want to go back to die? What you should do now is not to return to the camp to die, but to take those who are alive and leave. The living are more important than the dead!"
At this moment, an armed black guard ran over, grabbed Professor Buck's hand, and shouted, "Leave here, we are leaving here, quickly. Everyone in the camp is dead, you heard it just now, listen to his words, the living are more important than the dead! I can't let you also die here."
After crying out in agony, Professor Buck yelled, "We're leaving, quickly, Gao Yang, tell your people to leave with us."
Gao Yang shouted to the Chieftain and the others, "Follow me, get up on this thing."
As soon as Gao Yang finished speaking, he suddenly felt a heat on his face. As he subconsciously reached out to touch his face, he heard a gunshot.
When the gunshot sounded, Gao Yang was taken aback to find an armed black guard who had been standing beside him already on the ground. At that moment, another shot rang out, and a second armed black guard also fell.
Gao Yang then realized what was happening. He pushed the professor in front of him down to the ground and screamed at the top of his lungs, "Sniper, get down, get down."
After Gao Yang shouted, a group of people, as if waking from a dream, hurriedly dropped to the ground. Gao Yang then rushed over, tackled Kusto to the ground, and shouted again in Akuri, "Get down, lie on the ground."
Catherine, who was lying on the ground, was a bit panicked but still composed. She whispered, "They have been following us, who are they?"
Gao Yang's heart was pounding. He glanced around on the ground, unable to see anyone. Although he could approximately determine the sniper's location from the sound of gunfire, he still couldn't tell where the bullets were coming from, nor how many snipers there were.
Lying on the ground, Gao Yang said to Professor Buck, "Find cover, go behind the vehicle, crawl over, quickly."
Gao Yang had to repeat the same words in Akuri. Once everyone was crawling towards the vehicle, Gao Yang reached out and dragged over a double-barreled shotgun that was beside him, then unfastened the ammunition belt from the waist of the black guard and took it in his hands.
The location where Gao Yang and his group were was a vast plain, but right where they were hiding, there was a small depression. Coupled with the cover of the weeds, as long as they didn't stand up, they wouldn't be discovered, unless the assailants approached. So after Gao Yang and the others lay down, the sniper didn't shoot at people anymore but fired shot after shot at the engine of the vehicle. Fortunately, the two vehicles were parked side by side, and the sniper could only hit the one furthest out.
Gao Yang took a quick look at the shotgun in his hand. The shotgun was an old-fashioned 12-gauge over-under, with two triggers controlling the upper and lower barrels, and the brand was quite decent—a Belgian FN, which also seemed well-maintained.
Gao Yang was more than familiar with this type of double-barreled shotgun. During his shooting practice days, he used an Italian Beretta over-under, and the biggest difference with the gun he had now was that the sporting model had only one trigger.
Gao Yang opened the shotgun's chamber and looked inside; it was loaded with shells, one shotgun slug and one 00 buckshot. The so-called 00 buckshot, commonly known as a "nine pellet", contained nine lead balls. As for the shotgun slug, it was a single, large lead projectile. Within thirty meters, this slug could bring down an elephant or rhino without issue.
On the ammunition belt there were twenty-two more shotgun shells, mostly six and nine pellet buckshots, with only five shotgun slugs.
Now that Gao Yang had a shotgun, a familiar weapon, he felt a bit calmer. However, the shotgun was only effective at close range, and not much use at a distance. Gao Yang felt that he still needed to get his hands on the AK47 from the other black guard.
There was one issue: the body of the black guard with the AK47 was somewhat far from him, at the edge of the depression. If Gao Yang wanted that AK47, he would inevitably expose half of his body.
By this time, Professor Buck and the others had already taken cover behind the vehicle. Only Gao Yang remained in place. Professor Buck called out softly to Gao Yang, "Come here quickly, we need to find a way to leave this place."
```

Gao Yang waved at Professor Buck and then slowly crawled towards the corpse of the black man with the AK47. After scrambling out on all fours, he grabbed the black man's leg, immediately crawled back down and, using the body as cover, dragged the body into the crater.

Gao Yang could have just taken the gun and run without dragging back the body, but he changed his mind when he saw the ammunition pouch hanging on the black man's corpse.

As he pulled the body back, bullets whistled past Gao Yang's ears. Despite this, he didn't forget to assess the situation and sadly realized that at least twenty people had formed a semi-circle around them and were less than two to three hundred meters away.

There was no time to hesitate. Gao Yang urgently said to Professor Buck, "There are too many of them, at least twenty, and we're about to be surrounded. You must leave immediately. Don't even think about driving. Go to our tribe with our people. I'll hold them off."

"No, we should all leave together. Quickly, we still have a chance."

Gao Yang was getting anxious and said angrily, "Do you think that's possible? Without someone holding them back, none of us can escape. Quit the nonsense and follow our people. Hurry!"

After speaking, Gao Yang yelled in Akuri to the Chieftain, "Take them back to the tribe. Crawl as you go and start running once you're far enough. Staying here won't help me. I will find my way back to the tribe. If you sense danger, leave the tribe. I can find you."

The Chieftain was weak, but he still gestured for Professor Buck and the others to follow him and started crawling outward. As the leader of the tribe, he had the responsibility of guiding the people back to safety.

Professor Buck knew Gao Yang was right. Without someone buying them time, none of them would stand a chance of escape. Reluctantly, Professor Buck threw his walkie-talkie to Gao Yang.

"Catherine has another one. You can use this to keep in touch with us. I'm sure you'll know how. May God bless you, and you must come back."

After speaking, Professor Buck also started to crawl behind the Chieftain, and Catherine gave Gao Yang a deep look before bursting out, "You are very brave, truly brave. The brave do not die easily. You will definitely come back."

When everyone started crawling, Gao Yang strapped the shotgun's ammo belt around his waist, hung the AK47's ammunition pouch on his chest, slung the shotgun on his back, and after arming himself to the teeth, he casually hung the walkie-talkie on the ammo belt at his waist.

In the ammunition pouch, there were four magazines, plus the one in the gun. If the magazines were all full, Gao Yang had one hundred and fifty rifle rounds. Despite facing far more enemies this time, Gao Yang felt much more at ease with plenty of bullets compared to the last fight. At least this time, he had no injuries and could move much more freely.

Now that the Professor and the others had crawled a short distance away, Gao Yang took a deep breath and, with the gun at the ready, crawled to the edge of the crater. It was then he saw the encircling enemies were very close, at a distance of less than one hundred meters. Firing at so many people from such a distance made Gao Yang realize that if he wasn't showing absolute courage, he was surely being incredibly foolish.

Gao Yang didn't hesitate. He fired a shot at each of the two people in the front. Although the AK47 was hardly precise, at a range of only seventy to eighty meters, it acted like a precise sniper rifle in Gao Yang's hands.

The shots rang out and men fell. After firing, Gao Yang immediately rolled to the side, and almost simultaneously, a succession of bullets hit the spot where he had just fired. But by then, Gao Yang had already swiftly crawled to the other end of the crater.

The distance was closing. Lying inside the crater, Gao Yang could now see the enemies rushing towards him. They advanced about ten meters apart, holding their guns and running quickly towards him.

Gao Yang aimed at the person in front and fired. After bringing him down, Gao Yang didn't move; instead, he quickly shifted the gun and fired three more shots.

With four shots fired, Gao Yang brought down two men. The force demonstrated by these few shots made the enemies, who had been boldly charging forward due to their numbers, hesitate and quickly stop and hit the ground.

Only after the sprinting enemies stopped did Gao Yang perform a roll and start moving again. He wasn't afraid of getting hit by gunfire while on the move, as accuracy while running is incredibly low. It was all down to luck, and if he were to be hit anyway, Gao Yang would just chalk it up to bad luck. However, once the enemies hit the ground, Gao Yang didn't dare stay still in the open as a target.

While Gao Yang was moving, he heard someone shouting, "Forget capturing them alive; open fire with all you've got and charge. Kill them all!"

Gao Yang cursed under his breath. Now he realized why the enemies' actions were slower than he expected and the threat seemed smaller — they intended to capture prisoners. Now that they had abandoned the idea of taking captives, his situation became even more dangerous.

The enemy commander had ordered a full-scale attack, but after Gao Yang's shooting, no one dared to take the lead. Even though the gunfire intensified, no one really made the move to charge.
