Chapter 43: CHAPTER 43

I hadn't expected him to show up at all. In fact, I was fairly certain that after ignoring his request for lunch, he would have stayed away. But here he was, standing across the room. 

It seemed that what he really needed was someone who could challenge him, defy his expectations, and refuse to bend to his whims. Maybe that's why he was here, drawn by something he couldn't quite control.

Adan, who had clearly sensed my attention drifting away from him and toward his brother, wasn't handling it well. His gaze followed mine, locking onto Liam like a predator sizing up competition. He muttered something under his breath, the words slipping out before he could stop them.

"I thought he wasn't going to show up," Adan hissed, barely loud enough for me to hear, his voice tight with irritation.
